Pantyhose, tights or bare legs?

Panty hose are "out of style" or only suitable if you're "80"?? Ridiculous.. If this were true, millions of women are totally "unaware" - or just choose not to allow others to dictate what "they" should consider "fashionable"..

I would wear whatever you are the most comfortable wearing.. I'm sure you have enough individuality - and your self-esteem is high enough - that you have no need to allow others to decide what you should or shouldn't wear..:thumbsup2

I never wear dresses - ever.. Last time was my DD's wedding in 1995.. However, if the need arose where I absolutely "had" to wear a dress, I would be making my decision on what to wear on my legs (if anything) based on what I felt the most comfortable in - not silly fashion trends..:goodvibes

Maybe I'm old-fashioned but I LIKE the look of pantyhose with a formal or semi-formal dress. I think bare legs make a formal dress much more casual and kinda cheap looking. In fact, I'm going to a gala in April and I'll be wearing this dress...

with stockings and slingbacks.

I completely agree! No one wants to see my pasty white legs anyway.

That is a beautiful dress - what color did you get?

Out of fashion or not, these legs will not be seeing the light of day without hose. Thankfully, I very very rarely have to wear a dress or skirt.

It really depends. If you are going for dressy then some type of nylon looks good. Bare legs or tights really do cheapen the look.
I've seen some women with BARE LEGS that look hideous - young and old. :crazy2:

ITA with everything you said. I have seen women wear sandals with dirty feet and crusty heels.

RED! I'm known for always wearing black, especially when I play dress-up. ;) So, this time I'm gonna surprise everyone.

I never wear pantyhose if I can help it. Either tights or bare. Actually, I'm in jeans much more often than in dresses.

That's a gorgeous dress, AustinTink. Have a wonderful time wearing it!

I swear I read someplace recently that hose are coming back--that it's been seen in Hollywood lately. I can't believe it will be obsolete forever. Some women really need them to cover spider veins, and some dresses just look wrong without hosiery.

First, I'm all for people doing what they want to do as long as it doesn't cause harm or upset others. That being said, there are many woman out there that don't have attractive legs and would greatly benefit for the camouflaging effect of panythose.

I will be the first to admit that pantyhose are not that comfortable. I've worn hose since I was 13 years old. We had to wear them to school because we had to wear dresses. Back then, we didn't even have panty hose. If you think pantyhose are uncomfortable, try wearing regular hose with a garter belt or girdle...talk about pain! But, it comes down to comfort vs. looking the best that one can.

IMHO, most women don't have perfect legs. Something that covers the imperfections makes the look so much better. Then again, I won't wear high heeled shoes. I did that for many years and have decided that looking amazing is not worth the pain those shoes give me.

So, perhaps, we should all just do what we think is best for ourselves and not worry about others.

I don't think I've owned a pair of hose in years... I'm in the "just say no to hose" camp myself.

I wear bare legs or tights, depending upon the weather and outfit.

I was just debating over this last week for a job interview! I ended up wearing a pair of black textured tights with black suede peep-toed wedges with a black skirt, white blouse and gray plaid jacket. I still wasn't sure I pulled it off, but luckily a friend bumped into me on the way out of the restaurant and went ga-ga over my outfit. Apparently tights and peep toes are ALL the rage this season! I was happy!

OMG I thought I was the only one older than dirt. :scared1: I remember garter belts and girdles. I, too, had to wear stocking (just had to use that word:lmao:) to school with my uniform. I always wear pantyhose with a dress because I am extremely fair skinned and hate the color of my legs. I have tried leg makeup but find that my dress shoes are very uncomfortable without pantyhose.

Okay I have to give every on here a guy's opinion here. Yes I am sure that I will be totally trashed, but this is okay.

My thought on Pantyhose.. 85 percent of the women cannot pull off the bare leg look, especially in a formal, semi-formal, and professional settings. Those 15 percent that can, GREAT! Go for it! The rest of you, well put some good quality hosiery on, do not go and get the No-Nonsense brand from Wal-Mart, rather go and put a bit of effort into finding the right ones for you, no matter your size. The higher quality hosiery, such as Fogal, Pretty Polly, and other offer a wide selection of choices that will meet nearly ever woman's needs.

Another thing about the bare leg look, it makes women look like they are too dang lazy to get properly dressed for an event. Summer time, causal, relaxing, running to the store, bare legs is fine, but when you are around others who are well dressed, you have to stop and think outside of the box and stop thinking about yourself so much. Ask yourself, would your boss be proud to have you stand in front of a crowd accepting an award dressed as you are? Would you give the impression by how you look that you do not care what others think? My wife is VERY careful in ensuring that she represents her company very well, which means she wear the right type of hosiery for the right type of event. My business, there is no dress code, however, women there voluntarily wear hosiery because they know that they look more professional for the clients.

The part about hose being uncomfortable, well then you have picked out the wrong brand and probably size for you.

Again, take your time and with a little bit more effort, you will be shocked on the positive reactions you get from others.

I agree on all counts, well put!!! :thumbsup2

For me, it depends on the shoes, and the color of the clothes I'm wearing. If I'm wearing an open-toed shoe, then bare legs for sure.

If I'm wearing a casual skirt, then tights.

If I'm wearing a more business style skirt or dress, with closed toe shoes, then hose...but very sheer....and never ivory or white....:scared1:

tights or bare legs, never ever ever pantyhose

Just read this to my husband and he completely disagrees with you. :wizard:

I had a good laugh at the bolded part. Trust me you know nothing about hosiery.

I liked this part:

My boss is the team leader for our entire region. She does ALL of our recruiting and meets with big wigs and who's who's every single day and she doesn't wear hose so I am certain she doesn't care that I don't wear them! LOL! :lmao:

I am :rotfl: at the guy's opinion (as is DH!). Um, thanks? :confused3

(even better that it's his first post on the Dis...)
