Pantyhose, tights or bare legs?

Disgusting! Sweats are a total fashion CRIME. They are not flattering, ugly etc. I will never own a pair. And I would never be caught shopping in them.

As for the hose/tights debate - it depends. If I am in a business suit - always hose in taupe or black. If I am in a cute plaid skirt with great boots then it is tights. Strappy cocktail dress is hose - tights are too dark and look stupid.

I never said that at all. You did.

I have followed fashion all my life. I enjoy it. My mom wears pantyhose. I think they are tacky and I think they age her. But, I don't have any ill will towards her. I don't think she's a baffoon. I just know she doesn't follow fashion trends. She wears what she likes, and I wear what I like. She probably thinks my tights are crazy. I think her pantyhose are antiquated and tacky looking. To each their own.

:rotfl::rotfl:I was at a luncheon with Anna Wintour a few weeks back and she had pantyhose on. Gosh I should have told her someone from a small town has declared her tacky. :lmao:

I am sure she would have run out to change.;)

I don't get the big difference between pantyhose and tights. Aren't they the same thing, except tights are a little heavier? If you think pantyhose is uncomfortable, wouldn't tights be the same?

I would have seen her and still thought her pantyhose were tacky. Not HER, the pantyhose which seems to be the point people are missing. And actually TELLING anyone that what they are wearing to their face is beyond tacky. Plus I can't stand Anna Wintour....so I really don't give a flip what she wears. :wizard:

No. To me personsally pantyhose are tight and conrtictive and they tear apart and get runs too easily. I can't stand anythng about them. Tights on the other hand aren't as tight and they are soft and comfy.

I wear both tights and pantyhose and I actually find both of them to be quite comfortable. I wear nice pantyhose though and they feel good to me. The tights feel good too. I mainly wear tights when I have a heavier type of clothing on--wool skirt, boots, that type of thing.

But if you're wearing the right size pantyhose, they wouldn't be tight and constrictive :confused3:

I have another interview this week. A second interview with the DOD and LOTS of women in these offices. ALL had covered legs.

In the DC metro area, this time of year, about 99% of the women will be in pantyhose--of all ages. I work in a building with several thousand employees and it would be unusual to see even a young woman without some sort of hose or tights on. There are several on my floor, only been out of college 1-3 years, and they all wear either pantyhose or tights in the winter depending on their outfit. In the summer, it is reversed and the majority of women have bare legs.

To everyone's credit, I think most people have gotten the memo and are wearing much better pantyhose than they used to. I no longer see the glaring "orange" suntan hose, nor do I see really heavy pantyhose. Most of the time, they are barely noticeable unless someone has a support hose on.

I really don't understand the catty attitude of this thread at all. The DIS has the unrivaled propensity to turn the tamest of subjects into a brawl.

People twist your words beyond belief and turn on you at the drop of the metaphorical hat. I will never understand the need to virtually pull people's hair and draw lines in the sand over such silly topics.

Why is it not ok for some people to like tights and for some people to like them? Why is it not ok for some to abhor bare legs while others have no issue with them at all? Why is ok for some people to adore pantyhose and want to wear them everyday, and not ok for some to loathe them? Isn't the whole point of the thread to have a discourse about liking pantyhose and tights or not liking pantyhose or tights, liking bare legs or not liking them?

Why does it always have to turn into people accusing each other of this or that? Why the infantile internet fisticuffs? Why does it always have to become one person trying to personally slam another and people laughing in each other's faces?

Can no one have a conversation without it becoming some sort of knock down drag out personal slamfest against others? Is everyone so high and mighty that no one is allowed to disagree with them without being attacked or questioned endlessly for doing so?

I will never understand the DIS. :confused3

I guess I'm done with this thread.

She's what, the fashion editor for Vogue? So no matter how one feels about her, isn't she one of the primary fashion trendsetters, the ones who determine (or set) what's "in" vs what's "tacky"?

She is but one of many.

Good day to you.

Somebody in this thread decreed pantyhose "tacky" and "old". I don't think anyone has applied the same insults to either bare legs or tights. Many of us know that covered legs vs. bare legs is proper office attire - but I don't recall anybody using such offensive terminology to bare legs or to tights. Of the two pictures of 'tights' in this thread, one looks VERY similar to pantyhose - to the point of confusing several of us.

By the way, using insulting terminology for a particular item, clothing or otherwise, by nature applies the same judgment to wearers or supporters of that item.

It has a lot to do with the delivery of the posts. I don't think you are being offensive or anything but it is very obvious from your wording that you hate pantyhose and it comes across that you think people who wear them look bad. I know it's your personal opinion and you may have not said it specifically, but the thought is loud and clear. There are others that also don't care for pantyhose and have posted but it doesn't come off as harsh. You obviously don't think you are being harsh or critical of what others thinks looks good on them, so I will take that your intent is not to be critical of them. However, it doesn't seem that way outright. And that's how these threads become catty.

I am enjoying this discussion a lot. Fortunately I am at the age and stage where I very happily wear knee-highs under a formal gown, because they are simply more comfortable than any other option!
Most days I wear slacks--and some days when going into work I have had to wear long underwear underneath slacks so as not to freeze while waiting for the bus! But then, at least half of my city wears "longies" when it is minus 30 outside!

I loathe "pantyhose" with a passion. I've never been able to pull them up without putting a finger through them.

Solution...thigh highs! Or old-fashioned "stockings" with a garter belt. I don't have to worry about pulling them up and down all day, I know my skirt won't get caught up in them when I pull them back up...

(and my DBF thinks they're sexy, too)

I love stockings. They are at the top of my BF's sexy list.

Still confused. When did pantyhose become "tacky" and "old"? And who decides? If you don't want to wear them, fine - but if they were tacky, old, out of style - stores wouldn't be selling them. Retail space is expensive, and not going to be wasted on merchandise that doesn't sell.

Add me to the confused list. If they were tacky and old, they wouldn't cost so darn much.

OK, I am thoroughly thoroughly confused by this thread!

What the heck is the difference between hose and tights? To me, that picture above is a picture of colored hose.

Hose = nude?
Tights = color?

Is there no such thing as colored hose? They're called tights??

I agree! I was thinking, wait a minute those are black "nylons",as I call them.

Is it a color vs nude/beige thing?

I thought the same thing.:confused3 Apparently it's okay to make disparaging remarks about anyone who would wear "hose" but it's not okay for people to defend hose wearing?
