Pandemic?

I trying not to freak out here. But just in case I decide to freak out, where can someone get one of those masks? Like the blue ones that tie around your neck and head?

I ordered 10 for my family. If we don't need them for the flu, they come in handy for pysanky (Ukrainian Easter egg dyeing) or refinishing furniture.

I think Margaritas would be in good form because.....

isn't intervenous solution salt, water and sugar? You will have salt and juice which is sugar and water. I think you are good to go!!!!

I got face masks from Walmart, over by the bandaids and gloves. They had the regular type masks that said they kept you from spreading illness(20 for around $2.50) and they had the N95 particulate respirator kind that WHO recommends. They were in a 2 pack for around $3. I got 2 of the 3 packs at our Walmart, but may pick up a few more at another store if I find them. I figure they will be good for awhile and won't break the bank, KWIM?

I don't have much in the way of emergency supplies, so I am going to stock up on things like water, canned food and batteries. I figure it can't hurt and would come in handy for any disaster.

I was going with the whole Mexican travel warning angle here;):lmao:

I have read every post on this thread, and I have not once felt that Dawn has been warranting or causing a panic...not in the least, I feel she has given us clear information and encouraged us to take this seriously, but not to freak out. I've gotten better info from her and others on this thread than anything on the news.

Maybe I missed something...I had to have to warrant this kind of post...
----------------------

If you will re-read that post, I posed a question to her - twice - which I don't think she answered - at least not directly.. I wasn't accusing her of causing a panic - and I really doubt she read it that way or she would have made a point of telling me so.. I was getting mixed messages from several of her posts (in general) and was requesting clarification.. Nothing more, nothing less.. Can't get answers if you don't put the questions out there..;)

Funny!!! I didnt get that.....over tired Mom here. I was trying to be funny saying Margaritas would be better than beer because they are great and could double as a medical essential if you did get sick. Sometimes it takes me a few minutes...lol

Tamiflu is crazy expensive under my insurance plan. DS#2 got flu type A earlier this year (the sickest he's ever been, no we don't get flu shots but are reevaluating that decision for next year), and Tamiflu was almost $100.
We were lucky, and no one else got it from DS#2. But with this strand that no one knows anything about, there's no doubt I'd get it for the whole family.

We don't normally get the flu shot... but because my middle sons annual appt falls in Oct... he does... and for the third year in a row he is the only one who got the flu, verified and all with that influenza test... I got it this year, but in a much less severe form than him...it is the strangest thing in the world... and he always gets the flu in February... I am not sure what I think about the flu shots now:confused3 The rest of us don't get them just because I can no longer make appts. at a good time for me... and twice I took time off work to find out they were out for the rest of the week... just in case anyone was wondering.

As far as the swine flu, I am concerned but far from a panic yet... I will just continue to monitor the situation... we have enough food to last a few weeks just because of hurricane season approaching... I will keep my children home if they run a fever, but I do that normally, and continue to make handwashing a priority. What I have been doing differently is making sure my children stop bringing their hands to their mouths, nose, and eyes as much as I can... I never noticed how much they did that before this... but it should help them stay healthy in the long run..

Sorry, I'm such a dingbat sometimes:

You could check Lowes or Home Depot too. I ordered from here because it is recommended by the CDC and WHO.

Gotcha! :thumbsup2 She definitely didn't respond to your questions...fair enough...I just thought I would say that I hadn't noticed anything panicky...

I have to admit that I'm concerned :scared:. We are going up to Great Wolf Lodge in Mason, OH and there has been a confirmed case of swine flu in Columbus, OH . I told dh we should cancel our trip, but, he thinks it will be fine :confused3.
What do you think DawnCT1?

YIKES 3 weeks of food. I dont know where I could even store that? I mean I know it is important but I was going to put away about 5 days worth.......

As one who has to wear a mask at times(nurse), until you have worn a N95 particulate mask you have NO idea how uncomfortable they are. My max wear time is about 10 minutes.

Wash your hands, don't go to Mexico, don't kiss anyone who went to Mexico and move on with your life.

^^ I'm going to Mexico & I'll be kissing DH who will be going to Mexico with me :lovestruc

Of course it's 173 days away, so I figure it'll be blown over or we will all be in a heap of trouble by then!

Glad we cleared that up.. :) That's one of the things that I actually admire about Dawn - she's no "wallflower" and certainly doesn't need anyone else rushing to her defense..:thumbsup2

Can I just say that regardless of what is going through peoples minds right now, today was a gorgeous day - tomorrow is going to be another gorgeous day.. Let's enjoy them!!! :goodvibes

No, Columbus CONFIRMED the case. The case is in Lorain County which is up near Cleveland.

I live near the area you are going. There are no signs of anything going on here. No panic buying. No mask wearing. Nothing as of today. I have an appointment in Mason tomorrow afternoon. I can tell you more then if you like.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - The Ohio Department of Health says a 9-year-old boy who recently traveled to Mexico on vacation with his family has a confirmed case of swine flu.

Health department spokesman Robert Jennings said Sunday the boy is recovering at his home in Elyria, in northern Ohio's Lorain County. The child's name was not released.

Jennings says the Centers for Disease Control confirmed the case, but officials do not know if the child has the same deadly strain of swine flu that has killed up to 81 people in Mexico.

Jennings says the boy displayed typical symptoms of the flu, including a sore throat and body aches. Jennings says the child returned from Mexico within the past two weeks.

Jennings says the boy's relatives are being tested for the disease, but they currently do not have any symptoms.

If you feel you don't have the "room" for 3 weeks worth of food, think "compact" - and things that won't perish..

Possible storage places? Under-the-bed totes; top shelves of closets; garages; basements; a few totes stacked in a bare corner.. Really look around - consider how useful totes are (and all the various sizes you can get) and I'll bet you can find the space..;) Even here are the lake - I have 1 bedroom (not very big at all); a tiny bathroom; and a combo kitchen/living area - no bigger than a traditional small living room.. You wouldn't believe what I have stuffed in here - and it doesn't even look messy!! :thumbsup2
