Panama Canal Weight Loss/Weight Maintenance Motivation Group

Oh, and I love the advice. So talk away anytime you feel you have something that will help me out :)

I don't know if "marathoning for mortals" has a 5 k training plan, but it might be worth getting out of the library to read.

Believe me, you won't be the first person to cry at the finish line, Carmie!

Are we posting our weight loss/gain on this thread? I've done went and forgotten.

I didnt want to be a whiner and wont on the main post so thought I would do it here. My computer doesnt want me to whine because I have tried twice to write this post and my computer keeps bumping me off, lol.

My last two weeks have been a challenge. First I was soooo sick (better now). Then the grandson came to visit. He's going to be 13 next month and is a bundle of non stop energy. Not that I'm a slug, but I didnt get a nap for a whole week. None of us did DD, DSM or grandparents! We love our naps, lol.

Then my good friend's hubby passed. I took this very hard as he had heart surgery 1 year before my DH and was there for him every step of the way to tell him what to expect, what to do and not do, etc. He has been in 4 hospitals in the last 3 months and in and out of intensive care. They never found out what was going on. Blood infections, lung problems, no energy. Then DH's best friend from CA just shows up on our door step for a visit! Now, we welcome visitors, we have great winter weather mid 80's today and pool is 80, but give me notice you are coming.

Then spent the day with friend who lost hubby, more tears and laughter. Closed on the house behind us so that I can move our DS and DDIL out of my yard and into the house behind us. Their main concern is that they cant get cable until they get a job. I refuse to support them entirely. DDIL had an interview with corrections facility to start academy but called in sick. They were kind enough to postpone it til next month. Meanwhile they still havent completed the bankruptcy papers. Brought home a puppy they found when they picked up grandson in CA and all they care about is they cant log on to the internet to play their games!!!!!

I'm in a quilting guild and am arguing with the Pres, I'm secretary till next month then I'm done with her.

Havent even given any thought to exercise or food diary or diet or anything for 2 weeks. However, I am happy to say, that starting today I am back on track. Dancing and swimming and watching what I eat.

Thank you for letting me complain. I feel much better now.

Tami, So sorry to hear about everything that is going on. Hope that this is the start of wonderful things to come for you

And you're not whining, you're venting and sometimes that has to be done! I know I do my share of venting to my workout buddy and it usually helps. :goodvibes

Tami, I agree with Carmen, you aren't complaining, you are venting and even if you were complaining, you have every right to with all the stuff you are dealing with. Hope things are getting better for you.:goodvibes

Thanks again! I will try to reserve the energy to run the entire thing. What's really neat about this one is it finishes on the field of Minute Maid Park - the ballpark for the Houston Astros. I'm a huge baseball fan so that will be really neat for me. I'm a very emotional person and will probably cry after I finish! :)

I think that is great to finish your first race in the Astros ballpark. You should have a good cry after such an accomplishment. Just remember to enjoy the moment and listen to all the cheers just for you!:cheer2::cheer2:

Tami, hope you are feeling a bit beter.

Sorry. That happened to me a couple of weeks ago. I think it turned out to be water gain cause it was gone the next week. Maybe that's what's going on with you :confused3

Good luck to you. Find you a cute piece of clothing or something you want to get into. Hang it up where you look at it everyday. Maybe that will give you the motivation to keep at it! I know that the new clothes I have bought make me keep at it. I want to keep wearing them so I try so hard to make sure I can.

I started at a local weight loss program yesterday. I'm in the "conditioning" phase right now. You slowly eliminate the crud from your diet before diving head first into the actual plan. It's very structured which I need. I couldn't do the wiggle room on Weight Watchers. I have noticed since I cut most of the caffeine out of my diet how much better I already feel. I miss the buzz, but it's ok for now.
Usually the conditioning portion is about a week, but with the short cruise we're taking this week and family in town next, I took until everyone leaves to start this. I just want to give myself a fair chance and not fail before I start.
The hardest part is the water. You have to drink a minimum of 64 oz of plain water a day. Depending on the weight loss you want/need and the amount of exercise it goes up in 8oz increments. I've never been a good water drinker (except when I was pregnant). It's gonna be tough!
Hopefully, I can do this program. When people stick with it, the weight loss is phenomenal and they walk away from it being able to keep it off.

Good luck! The water would be the hardest part for me to. :thumbsup2

I've got the water down, no pun intended! I can drink up to a gallon a day. Took me a few years to get used to it, but now I dont drink any soda, coffee, tea and very little juice. HOWEVER, I do love a libation now and again.

Several years ago I participated in a diet study for Standford University. They had 4 diet plans and your were randomly assigned one. I got Atkins, they also had Zone, Ornish and WW. I did OK on Atkins but always had a problem with the exercise part. Last year they contacted us all and asked us for a DNA sample to analyze our genes to see what type of diet would be best.

Got my results. WW or a generally balanced diet would be best and unfortunately my exercise profile, to be effective, is high cardio. Ugggh! I can do WW no problem, but now I know I have to literally work my a$# off to get anywhere else. Oh well, nothing good is ever easy.

re caffiene, I had an annoying twitch in my eye for 2 weeks now, I read on the net that too much caffiene can cause it, I DEFINATLY do have too much coffe etc, so on monday I stopped and switched to decaf coke, coffee and tea, I put my yukky feeling down to that, so I am hoping it wasnt that and Ive been brewing something and now I will fell better, its so horrible feeling yuk, I start to get paranoid about moaning all the time about it,:rolleyes1

Anyway, hope you guys can cope with the weekend.:flower3:

So sorry about the migraine! I feel for you - I suffer from those things too. If you're like me, you'll have the lingering effects of that headache for a day or two. Once it's gone, I feel like a train hit me!

I've had the twitching in my eye too! Driving me nuts. It just last for a few seconds, comes and goes, and only on the right side. Perhaps it's the caffiene for me too :goodvibes

I'm still exercising daily. Went for a run on Monday, estimated that the track was .5 mile as I had never ran on it before. So, made a goal to run it 6 times, plus a litle extra to get in the 3.1 miles. Finished, came home and looked online - it was a .6 track, so I ran over 3.6 miles w/o stopping - my furthest yet! I guess it is in my head since I felt just as fine (actually better) as I do when I finish 3.1. Wonder how long I could have ran if I thought the course was shorter.

I dont get migraines thankgoodness, only about 3 in my life but head is a bit better today,
anyhow re your running, thats great, nearly 4 miles!!! it is all in the head, you can mostly always run further than you think you can, like in edinburgh, I dont have my garmin thingy to wear that tells me time, speed, distance bla bla, I went for a run and then went on www.mapmyrun.com and it turned out I had ran nearly 6 miles !!!! way more than I would have done if I was counting miles.

Try just one more lap next time!:rolleyes1
