Agony Aunt? OUCH! lol.

Jen read page 52 and 53 in the Shape up book. It addresses your specific issue. I got my copy in the mail today and it fell open to that page. Clearly, that was a sign.

It does suck but at least you are talking about it and please trust me when i say that is a comitment in itself.
Starting of good and falling away is better than getting up and stuffing whatever can fit in your face in( like I sometimes do when feeling over whelmed

I agree. That means it's in your brain so at least some of the time you're making better choices. Baby steps. The tonnage didn't come on in a week, it ain't going off in a week, either.

Yes, I lost 45 pounds last year, which averages out to nearly a pound a week. But did it come off at a pound a week? HECK NO! I went for weeks on end without losing an ounce. then a few pounds would fall off. I didn't lose ANYTHING from the beginning of November to the end of February this year.

As far as me, I'm frustrated and hope that I can just blame it on mother nature. I have been exercising daily, working my a$$ off doing the stairmaster, running, weights. In fact, I've gone from doing the 5K on the treadmill at over 37 mins about 3 weeks ago to now right at 31 minutes. Now, I'm up 2.5 pounds from 5 days ago - up to 143. I'm not saying I haven't cheated, but nothing too bad (a few pieces of Easter candy).
Two weeks ago, I had 6 cups of cocoa over a 3 day time period. It's going to take 3 or 4 weeks to undo the damage I did. Small things add up, and if you're not tracking what you're eating, you have no idea what you've done (a few crackers here, a couple chips there, you know the drill)

Also, be sure you are drinking sufficient water. If I don't drink my quota, the scale will up the next day because I'm retaining water. Tami, that's particularly important for you, because you're likely dehydrated due to being ill.

If snacks are a huge issue - have only healthy stuff available - strips of chicken breast microwaved and kept in the fridge, cheese sticks, veggies and dip (buy 'em off the salad bar if you don't have time to prep 'em yourself), salsa on celery, hard boiled eggs, a can of sardines, apples with peanut butter and before anything, a nice big glass of water.

Soda addicts, I hate to tell you, but even the diet stuff doesn't do anything good for you. Instead of being an 'electrolyte booster' it's a drain. Water is boring, no doubt. But it's the best thing we can drink.

Time. It's possible to prep a meal for my slow cooker in 10 minutes or less. Stirfry chicken and veggies in 10. dump a pouch of tuna on a salad in two.

Baby steps. We *WILL* get through this. The point is not to go on a quick weight loss diet and then get sick of it and gain back what we lost - the point is to make healthy changes that we can live with forever (even if it means the weight comes off a little slower)

Well, I can see we're all enthused about healthy eating! Either that or the "agony Auntie" is a "thread killer" ;-)

Worked out Thursday and Yesterday, but overslept on Friday. Raked instead.
The jump on the scale from great cocoa debacle is lingering FAR too long. I've been excruciatingly good lately. Tonight, though - HOMEMADE Pizza!

Ive been checking in and out, but Ive been good this week so no need to complain on here, I had a fight with a huge box of choky biscuits at my work this weekend, i still am actually, all my fb friends have been helping me resist them, but bloody heck its been difficult.

mmmmm, home made pizza, i went for a run, Ive lost about 4lbs, even that tiny bit makes it easier, I ran 4miles on sat and legs are fine, when you workout Linda what do you do?

I was laughing at your small things add up.

Mum read a bit out the paper last week.

"It says here, if you have one glass of wine a night for a year you put on 7lbs"

I say

"cough splutter, wonder what a bottle a night does?"

I'm still around! I feel like I've been doing well. I've recovered from last week but waiting on Monday for my official weight.

I have continued to work out hard. Been going to the gym daily (except yesterday) and have even done a couple of runs in the evenings. Thursday, ran 5K on the real pavement for the first time. Finished it in 29:20. Ran it again on Friday, finished in 29:55. Yesterday, we went on a little campout. Hiked about 3 miles, helped pitch a tent, and gather firewood. That's all the workout I got yesterday. Today, we hiked another 3 miles (saw tons of alligators too!) and went to the gym to work out after we got home. I feel good :goodvibes.

Enjoy that homemade pizza. Sounds yummy!!!!!

Sounds like a good enough workout to me

I'm here. Weight is the same despite all the best of intentions. I have come to realize that WW isn't for me. We go on the Wonder next week, so I won't start any new plan of attack until after we get back.
I did read more of that book Linda, and while I agree with him, it's nothing I haven't heard, read or studied. It was good to get some pointers, but it wasn't for me.
School is killing any free time, plus we've had some rough patches with some things that have happened at home. As I said yesterday to someone, Memo to the universe: stop pooping on me. (Of course the reply from my friend was, Memo to Jen (from the universe): get out of my toliet. - I love my friends). The point is I'm doing ok with the emotional eating, but I am doing it. Just not overdoing it.
Sooner or later I will find a method of eating that works for me to loose weight, sooner or later I will loose this weight.

Happy Monday everyone! Hope everyone had a great weekend.

I am so happy to say that last week's weight gain is gone, in addition to another pound! Perhaps it was water gain. But whatever it was, it's gone and I'm down to 139. WooHoo, broke into the 130s!

I started eating Fiber One cereal for breakfast. It was featured on the Biggest Loser last week. It really doesn't taste that bad at all. It's not delicious, but isn't nasty either. A small serving is all it takes. Also, I either eat a piece of bacon or a little bite of peanut butter to get some protein and I have been staying fuller longer. I haven't been getting hungry until lunchtime. It wasn't like this with Special K. I'd eat it and by 10 am I was hungry again.

I'll be going to the gym this afternoon and hope to get a run in this evening. I think I'm going to register for my first 5K event. Don't know if it's the best 5K event to be my first as I have read online that it "grueling and tough" due to the course containing an overpass that must be done twice. But, I figure I might as well give it a try and strive to finish. It is at the end of May so I have a few weeks to work on it.

I am still here as well. Just plugging along, no real weight loss yet. Actually hurt my hamstring last week, too many squats or lunges or something.

So I read over the 10 commandments and some of them are REALLY HARD for me like "Thou Shall Not Chew Less Than 20 Bites" and "Thou Shall Not Eat Meat That Walks on Four Legs More Than One Time A Week". I don't eat seafood and chicken gets really old after awhile. :confused3

I'm still here, too. I have three more days to baby my leg and then I can walk and put as much weight on it as I want. Can't wait to start walking again.:banana:

I sure agree with you there! I do eat seafood, but I love me some meat! Besides, at those prices, who can afford to eat fish every night?:confused3

Someone else might find it useful, though, who knows.

Carmie - GOOD JOB! You're really getting into this exercise stuff - signing up for a race even!

Off to the gym & pool. Scale hasn't moved in a week, and I've been so good.

Hope your leg starts feeling better soon!

I'm picky about seafood. For me to eat fish, it can't taste fishy at all. My dad fishes a lot in the spring and usually comes home with a bunch of crappie. I really like that. It's a very mild fish. We either bake it or grill. I also like shrimp and of course my favorite way is fried. BUT, we grill it and that is the only way I've been eating it. Other seafood, I can do without. As far as chicken, yes, it gets old very fast. I eat is several times a week. I also eat lean pork chops grilled. Those are yummy too!

Thanks! I actually enjoy exercising. Never thought I would say that but I feel now that my body craves it. I went to the gym yesterday afternoon for an hour and I even went running again last night through the neighborhood. I feel so good afterwards. Tired, but good. It helps me sleep too!

Good luck! I know it gets very frustrating when you feel like you've been doing all the right things with no success. My friend that I work out with some, she was really struggling. Working out 6 times a week, eating healthy, but the scale wasn't budging. Then, she lost 6 pounds in 10 days. If you keep doing the right things, it has to start moving eventually :)

One of the things I've read lately about beef is to try buffalo, it's much leaner than beef.
I have no issues not eating beef alot and eating seafood. I love it. I also love tofu. If you can learn to cook well with it, it really fills the hole greated by not eating a lot of beef. When I go out for sushi, I usually get miso soup with extra tofu and sashimi. A very filling and yummy meal without any guilt.

Good going,:cheer2::cheer2: I think you should really give the 5K a try. Just a little advice from someone who used to run 5Ks. There will be people there who will try to get into your head about how hard the run is, so you will think you can't do it,walk away from them. There will be people there who are very encouraging, hunt them out. Most importantly pace yourself. You will be tempted to try to keep up with the front runners, especially on your first 5K, hang back and go at your own pace or you will find yourself running out of steam at about the 3 mile mark. The easiest way to keep track of your pace is time yourself while training and know how long it takes you to cover the first mile, then time yourself during the race and make sure you don't cover that first mile too fast. Save energy for the last mile and you may be able to cover it faster than the first mile. You can do it, just have fun. It will make you feel so proud of your accomplishment and you won't be able to wait to do it again. Always remember you are only competing against yourself, trying to do your personal best on that day and that day only. Now my advice is over, I love running, it clears my mind and makes me feel like I can do anything I set my mind to. Keep it up.:yay:

Thank you so much for your advice! I'm really excited about it. I have always wanted to try running but have been scared in the past. Now that I have, I'm so glad I did. Yesterday, I was talking to my sister on the phone and told her that I started running and that I wanted to run a 5K. She said "Do you think you can?" I was so happy to say that I had already ran 5K through my neighborhood 3 times in the past 5 days! I know that the actual 5K will be different due to all the other runners and the course, but the fact that I can run 5K w/o walking is very encouraging!

OK so I'm not finished with the advice. Don't let anyone sow a seed of doubt in your brain. Your mantra is, "I know I can do it". I will say, I have seen so many first timers go out too fast and spend all their energy within sight of the finish line and have to walk the last tenth mile. Whatever you do run accross the finish line. I can't describe the feeling of accomplishment and pride you will have, especially when you hear all the cheers just for you. If you are like me, it will make you want to up the ante and start running 10Ks. Twice as long, but boy do you feel like you are on top of the world when you finish! I promise, this is the end of my advice, but if you ever need a pep talk, call on me.:cheer2:

Yes, I was surprised to find I enjoy it too - always was sedentary, even as a kid, because of asthma - they treated it differently in the old days. Now, I go to the gym and pool 4 -5 times a week. Some mornings, I have to push myself out the door, but once I get there, I'm always glad I went. I see the people with MS and cancer and they're there pushing themselves - can I possibly do less?

My experience has been the same as your friends - on hold for what feels like forever and then a sudden 3-4 pound drop. But, I was ready for a drop and then had the great cocoa debacle and totally derailed myself. So I only have me to blame

Buffalo! YUMMY. Ditto venison and wild boar, two other 'grass fed' beasts with really lean meat.

#1yepod, that's great advice - and how nice of you to support Carmi! I "mom-ed" a Marathon team for a while and "stay on your pace" was always a big mantra for the girls both runners and walkers.

Thanks again! I will try to reserve the energy to run the entire thing. What's really neat about this one is it finishes on the field of Minute Maid Park - the ballpark for the Houston Astros. I'm a huge baseball fan so that will be really neat for me. I'm a very emotional person and will probably cry after I finish!

Oh, and I love the advice. So talk away anytime you feel you have something that will help me out :)
