Pam's Low Carb Road (Comments Welcome)

Today I think I am going to watch more of my portion sizes. I feel full all the time but I'm doing well.

So......................

Breakfast - 3 eggs, butter, a little ham, tea,splenda

Carb = 5

Lunch - salad, a little cheese, newman's own italian dressing

Carb = 7

Dinner - tonight it is grilled chicken(I'll put on some kind of herbs/spices). I am going to do a huge batch but measure out 4 oz and see if that satisfies me. Oh yeah, I can't forget to load up on water.......so off I go to get some. Also had brussel sprouts.

Carb = 5

TOTAL = 17 carbs :smooth:
 
WHAT IS GOING ON?? I was really good yesterday, and I got on the scale and it actually WENT UP a pound. What is up with that?? OK. OK. I won't sweat it too much. But I must admit it makes me a little mad.

So today, and for the next few days, my plan is to stay away from cheese and all the little extra stuff that can sometimes get in the way. I haven't been using a lot of that stuff lately, but maybe I need to stay away from it altogether.

So here goes.....

Breakfast - Grilled Chicken Breast. thought maybe this wasn't enough fat content. Put it in on Fitday and it wasn't. So I melted an ounce of brie on top. Delicious. Only brought my fat percentage to 38. I usually like it to be at least 60, but I'm sure I'll be fine for my daily totals. We'll see.

Carb = maybe 1 from seasonings (including .5 from brie)

So far this morning I've had at least 24 oz. of water. I'm trying for at least 100 oz. today.

Ketostick is pink so I must be in ketosis.

Lunch - Hamburger (about 4-5 oz.), grilled with some olive oil, salt, pepper, garlic

Carbs = 0

Dinner - small hamburger, 1/2 grilled chicken breast, 1 oz. brie cheese and a tablespoon ranch dressing

carbs = 3

Total carbs = 4

I am trying to stay away from cheese, but a few times my fat content wasn't high enough so I used some brie. Don't want to overdo it though.

Fitday says I had 1600 total calories, 66% from fat, so I'm just about right on. One thing about low carb: if you have cut your carbs to below 20 and you are still hungry, add more fat. It really helps. I didn't have a lot of actual food today, but because I had so much fat, I wasn't hungry. Have I said lately how much I love low carb? :teeth: Not that it's easy or a walk in the park, but because I'm not famished at the end of the day is a miracle.

Sending you a :hug: I just sent you a PM about how I am frustrated because I thought I have been doing so well and I gained a pound too :confused: . I guess we really are in this together LOL.

We just have to stick to this and that pound and more will go away, RIGHT!?!

Your journaling shows that you have been eating great and you're in ketosis so maybe you're just retaining water or something. Just stick with this! We can do this! We can be loosers together::yes:: !

And I read on the one thread that you are going to your sister's house....is it ....next weekend??? I'm sure they will see a difference.

hey pam, i'm sorry you saw a gain on the scale! but it could just be normal body fluctuations. don't sweat it, jsut worry about the once a week weigh in on your normally scheduled day. i'm sending the whoosh fairy your way to take care of it :)

Today is going to be a busy one. I leave the house with my three children around noon and don't get home again until 6:00pm. Whew! I'm glad meat is portable. :teeth:

It's going to be another meat day. I feel so good and I haven't been so low on my carbs in quite a while. This is only for a few days, though.

Breakfast - hamburger, ranch dressing, tea, splenda

Carb = 3

Lunch - hamburger,an ounce cheese (I just couldn't take it anymore.....a day without cheddar, is a day without sunshine :teeth: ) , blue cheese dressing

Carb = 2

Dinner - grilled chicken, olive oil, a little onion, Atkins hoisin sauce, and probably 1/4 cup carrots (they just looked so good)

carb = 8

Total carb = 13


Ketostick is still small/moderate pink! I think pink is becoming my favorite color.:p
 
Going out to lunch today with two friends, one who is moving to ALASKA at the end of the month. We're going to Applebee's so I think my plan is some chicken breasts and (hopefully) steamed broccoli. I'm going to order water to drink. Both friends are doing low carb so it should be pretty easy.

Yesterday went well with the cookie making. All the moms and kids were standing around eating the frosted cookies and I just kept saying, no sugar will pass these lips! And it didn't.:D Actually I couldn't believe how "untempted" I was. This doesn't always work for me, but I didn't even WANT a cookie. I was amazed.

Yesterday I had to .....um......run to the bathroom, if you know what I mean. And the same thing just happened to me this morning. I can't even believe that it is 5:30 am and I am on the computer. I went to bed dead tired at 9:30 last night and woke up this morning at 4:30am. What is going on? No caffeine drinks yesterday except for tea at breakfast. Wow! Could this be my low carb energy surge? I've been waiting for it for over a week. Hopefully I'll be able to make it until 9:00 tonight. :teeth:

Oh, and I am removing the 10 pound clippie for now. I had gained some over the holidays and I should have taken it away then. I guess I was hoping that the weight would come off fast, but it hasn't. It will mean that much more when I get to add it back. I mean, come on.... an attorney's wife has to be "legal". :teeth:

Breakfast - tea with splenda (the first time I haven't had breakfast for months! Just didn't have time. I think I paid for this later)

Carb = 1

Lunch - Lunch at Applebee's: chicken breast, mushrooms, peppers, melted cheese, sauted broccoli, squash, zuccini

Carbs = 11

Dinner - Lunch I split in half and had the other half for dinner.

Snack - This is where I had a hard time. I was in a munchy mood, BIG TIME, so I was looking for something to snack on. I really wanted tortillas and cheese/bean dip but I settled for pork rinds and salsa. The salsa was a new kind that was in the refrid. section. It was like homemade. YUMMM! 1 carb for 2 tbl.. I think I had like 20 tbl.. Way too much, but I was so hungry. Then I had 3 oz. of mozz. cheese. :rolleyes: Well, at least I didn't have 5 Val. Day cookies like I would have before!:D I am making SOME progress.

Carb = 13

Total Carb = 25 WoW! That's a ton for me!

Oh, and I also had a diet soda tonight. The first for me since last Sat. night. Like I said. I was in a junk food kind of mood. At least I had a lot of good veggies in the salsa.:)

just wanted to stop in and say that your'e doing a great job. i'm impressed that you didn't even get tempted by those cookies! great job!

oh, i'm also here to report that i have failed in the cheat free challenge. had an off day yesterday. oh well! i'm gonna keep using my bear to count total days cheat free in feb ::yes::
 
OK. After last night, I just don't have the courage to weigh in today. It's not that I fell off plan. I didn't cheat or anything. But I think I just ate too much. I am at the place right now that I want to see a few pounds off when I step on the scale and I'm afraid I won't see that today so I 'm staying off.

Monday will be two weeks since I started back (yet again). :rolleyes: I will weigh in then, I promise.

Tonight Ron and I are going out to dinner with friends. We are going to Ruby Tuesday's. I can't wait . I want Ron to order the low carb cheese cakel. I just want a few bites, not even half a piece, but I have been so curious to try it after so much Hoopla!!

Lunch -

Dinner - Blue cheese steak, cheese conqueso (?) with pork rinds, double portion of broccoli, 5 bites of low carb cheesecake.

AAAAAAAAAAAAYYY!!!!! I had tonic water with lime to drink at RT. I DIDN'T KNOW TONIC WATER HAD SUGAR IN IT! I HAD THREE GLASSES. I AM AN IDIOT! I AM AN IDIOT! I said no to cauliflower because it had 11 carbs and then I go and order tonic water ! UUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!:rolleyes: :guilty: :mad:

Happy Valentines Day! Even though you maybe ate more than you should have yesterday at least you stuck to low carb! I think I did the same thing on Thursday night. We went out to a pizza place where I had the all-you-can-eat salad bar and I was really hungry after a busy day at work and I think I just plain and simple ate to much even though it was salad with cheese and bacon, but I told myself well at least it was better than having a couple of pieces of pizza ;)

You're doing great with stickingto low carb, keep it up and like you said Monday makes it 2 weeks for our challenge so let's just wait and see how wev'e done then! Have a great time tonight, I can't wait too hear about the low carb cheesecake!

i see that you skipped weigh in and postponed it till tomorrow. i understand the feeling. it's hard to anticipate a gain. i hope that the reading that you get tomorrow will be one that you like :). you've been diong a really great job with staying on plan, so i bet it works out for you :)
 
Gee, it's been a while since I have posted. Well, I have lost 3 lbs and gained it right back. How does that happen? Oh, yeah, like I don't know.:rolleyes: But, ever the eternal optomist, I press on!

Today I decided that I would make Atkins muffins. They've been in my cupboard for a while and I thought I would try them. They're OK. I enjoyed having bread. Especially since I made my family homemade corn muffins (which were perfectly moist and looked wonderful :mad: ). OK, I'm glad they loved them and enjoyed them, yeah, yeah, yeah. Meanwhile I'm eating cran/orange Atkins muffins that have an aftertaste a little like cardboard. You're right, I haven't eaten cardboard lately but if I could IMAGINE what cardboard would taste like, that is it. But when you are desparate for some bread, they will do.


Here's what I had to eat..........

Breakfast - 2 eggs, butter, coffee, cream

Carbs = 2

Lunch - lettuce, tuna, cheese, blue cheese dressing

Carbs = 6.5

Snack - sunflower seeds(1/2 cup), cheese stick

Carbs = 7

Dinner - Chicken with roasted red and yellow peppers, onions, one Atkins orange/cranberry muffin

Carbs = 11

Total Carbs = 26.5 A little high for me, but 16 of it came from veggies/seeds so at least it wasn't from sweets or refined flours!
 
I'm going to try to watch my portions better today. And being that I just got TOM, (although in this house we say "Aunt Flo" is visiting. I don't know why, because I love my relatives and would love if they came to visit. Well, ok, I wouldn't have wanted my Grandma Sara to visit, but I can't see calling it "Grandma Sara", no matter how unfriendly the woman was!) I won't be weighing in anytime in the immediate future. :crazy: Oh well.

I have never figured out why we don't call it uncle something. I'm usually grouchy toward men at that time anyway. You know, if you touch me I'll have to shoot you. Hey, that's it. Why not call it Uncle Earl. (Earl had to Die):teeth:
 
hey pam, great job not eating one of those corn muffins! good idea to have your own "legal" alternative, even though i'm sure it was hard to resist the real stuff. ah, but such is life. the sacrifices we have to make to be our healthy selves :)

and all the weird names for the period always crack me up too. i've always called it just that. although, on the boards, i tend to say TOM, so as to be less graphic i guess? just for the convenience of everyone else. oh i don't know. but i do love judy's idea about calling it a man. definitely no woman wishes this upon us! has to be a man ::yes::

Well, today I feel lousy. Crampy, crampy, crampy. But I am staying on plan. I am tired of looking at myself in the mirror and seeing the fat lady.

Even my 11 yr old DD said to me the other night that she would love to see me the way I was when I married DH. WELL! If that didn't stop me in my tracks. I told her that I want to see that girl again, too. She knows I am trying but I go on such a rollercoaster ride with this weight loss, I'm sure she is thinking it is never going to happen. Let's be honest, I sometimes think it is never going to happen.

The sad part is that is actually breaks her heart to see me struggling like this. She prays for me all of the time and is so kind about it. She tells me she feels so sorry for me. Yikes! I need to think of that everytime I go to put something in my mouth that I shouldn't!

I don't talk about my weight or my plan much around the kids because I don't want weight to be "the end all" issue for them growing up. Sometimes it's hard to get around, especially when they are having pasta and I sit there eating a grilled hamburger. Ofcourse, now they are so used to it they will just say, "Oh, you're not having noodles because they are carbohydrates, right?" :p Maybe they have a future in nursing/nutrition.

Anyhoo..........I think once my TOM is over, I will start exercising. I have a couple things I can be working with and that would help things along considerably.

For today:

Breakfast - 2 eggs, butter, Atkins muffin, mint tea, splenda

Carbs = 5.5

Lunch - 2 hot dogs (no nitrates,hormones or anti-biotics), cheese (2 oz), mustard and a teeny bit of ketchup

Carbs = 6

Dinner - Bringing my own dinner to church tonight because the menu is pizza. Hamburger, salsa, raw veggies(broc., caul.), ranch dressing

Carbs = 6

Snack - one Atkins muffin,butter

Carbs = 4

Total Carbs = 21.5

Pam, you've been doing such a great job of hanging in there and staying on plan. I know you're gonna see results - you're working so hard at it! ::yes::

Once TOM leaves (and I say it like Tom, a guy's name, not T-O-M, like spelling out the letters :D ), I'm sure things will get easier.
