Pam's Low Carb Road (Comments Welcome)

*****WOO HOO!!!***** :jumping1:

Congratulations on your new clippie!!!! You'll be at your next goal before you know it! Great job!!!

There's no need to tell you to have a nice day now, because you'll obviously have a fabulous one!

See ya around! :sunny:

:jumping1: PAM'S GOT A NEW CLIPPIE!!! :jumping1:

How great!! Congratulations, Pam! You'll be walking on air today - amazing how clip art can motivate us! :p Your new clippie is looking BEAUTIFUL!!

Glad to see all your hard work is paying off!

I turned 40 in February - I feel really good about being 40. I know it can be a tough one for many people but I guess I'm happy with all I've accomplished and all I've learned in life so far. I truly feel like the best is yet to come!

Have a wonderful day, Pam!! Do something to celebrate your success! :sunny:

That new clipie looks fantastic!::yes:: Keep up the good work. At the rate you're going you will be to the next clippie in no time!!! Hope you have a terrific day.

Thanks Doe, thanks Judy. You're encouragement means a lot.

Feel really good today. I had my Subway wrap last night while my family had regular subs and/or pizza and I didn't have one bite. Not even to take some cheese off of the pizza. I went to bed and my stomach felt empty and that was actually a good feeling. I knew I had stayed in control. :Pinkbounc

Today I am getting ready for my niece and her fiance to come for the weekend. I will be cooking/baking a lot so I am a little apprehensive. I DON'T WANT TO MESS UP! I have my Atkins muffins to help me and maybe I'll cook some dessert that is low carb, who knows. We are going to be pushing a lot into two days so this should be interesting.

Today:

Breakfast - 2 Atkins muffins, butter, mint tea, splenda

Carbs = 9

Lunch - 2 cheese sticks, sausage pattie

Carbs = 2

Dinner -

Carbs =

Total Carbs =

YA HHOOOOOOOO Pam!!!! Your new clippie looks FABULOUS on you!!! I am soooooo proud of you, you lost 4 pounds, that is FANTASTIC! You go girlfriend!

Believe it or not we still have 6 boxes of Animal Treasures Girl Scout cookies in the house but after my meltdown I have not been tempted to open them and Rach hasn't asked for them either. I'm going to find room for them in the freezer today because we actually bought them to take up north to my sisters this summer so we can use them to make S'mores for the whole family. What's really strange is that right now they don't even appeal to me, I am really determined to do good this time and stick to plan! I read an article in a magazine about how in your mind you have to be ready to loose weight and maybe I'm just finally there or maybe it is the support and encouragement from you and all the other great people here at WISH! Whatever it is I just hope I stay in this mind set LOL.

Have a GREAT day :sunny:

Cheryl:wave2: :wave:

Pam, if you do not have legal treats and snacks in the house, stop whatever you're doing and get them!! :eek: A weekend with house guests, lots of cooking & baking, and busy days sounds like a recipe for disaster so make sure you've got stuff on hand for you to eat!

You could have some tuna salad already made and in the fridge, hamburgers and/or chicken already cooked (just need to reheat), hard boiled eggs, peanuts, sunflower seeds and string cheese to snack on. Treats - sugar free jello & whipped cream, strawberries & whipped cream, Russell Stover or other low carb candy, Klondike Carb Smart ice cream bars.

Hang in there, Pam!! :sunny: :sunny: :sunny:

Wow Pam I must have been typing my above post while you were posting yours, too funny :D . I got your PM and sent you one back.

Aren't those Subway wraps great. I love them too!

Stay strong this weekend!!! You have been doing so good!!! Just think about the choices you are making and make the BEST choices for what is available. It's great that you are liking the Atkins muffins. Rachel had me make the Atkins chocolate chip cookies (much lower in carbs than Girl Scout cookies ;) ) and I tried 2 and they are not bad and only 3 carbs for a cookie if you're craving some chocolate. Everytime I go to the grocery store I find more low carb things to try. Today I saw that Blue Bunny has low carb yogurt (I bought some, I'll let you know what I think of it when I try it) and low carb ice cream bars. I love the Breyers low carb ice cream, (I love ice cream period so it's great that there are low carb options now) and the Kemps sugar free ice cream bars, I'll definitely have to try the Blue Bunny ones. Maybe you could see if you could get some kind of low carb ice cream for yourself for a treat every now and then. I wanted to mention the low carb ice cream to you after you said you had an ice cream bar Sunday. I am seeing more and more low carb ice cream "treats" in the store all the time. Have you tried any of them? If you had some in the freezer then when you get tempted for ice cream you'd have a low carb ice cream for yourself and you'd still be staying on track.

Have a fun weekend with your niece and her fiance! I have great confidence in you that you WON'T mess up! You have been doing so well! Just have fun with your family! :D

Hi Pam! :wave:

I'll be thinking of you this weekend and sending lots of pixie dust :wizard: your way to ward off temptation. You can do it!

I hope you have a wonderful time with your niece and her fiance. Try not to worry too much about messing up. Even if you have a small lapse, that's all it has to be. You'll just pick yourself up the next morning and get back on track. Your WISH buddies know you can do it!

Have fun and enjoy yourself! :wave2:

Cheryl:wave:

Pam, I hope you had an enjoyable weekend! Here's some extra :sunny: to help you ease back into the week!

Hey Everyone, thanks for all of the votes of confidence. You guys are the best!:)

I had A GREAT WEEKEND! Lots of fun with my DNiece and her DF. He is a great guy and they both have their heads on straight. It's nice to see a young couple that love the Lord, study hard at college, work hard and don't have "being cool" at the top of their "to do" list. Sorry if that sounds harsh on this generation, but I get so tired of all the trendy stuff that is out there getting some people's attention. Sometimes I think all younger people care about these days are material things, luxury, and "if it's good for you, then do it" attitude. (Ofcourse this goes for any age, doesn't it?:rolleyes: ) It's just good to see the opposite once in a while. :D ...............now I will step down from my soapbox. :teeth: They are a very attractive couple and I'm very happy for them.

As far as staying on plan, I did pretty well. I did splurge the one night I made blueberry cobbler and ice cream. I also allowed myself to have some of the breakfast casserole that I made that had bread in it. I haven't weighed myself, and I won't until my check in date with the "no foolin around" thread. Today I'm really trying to watch my carbs though and be extra good.

I have also decided that I like the idea of monthly goals and don't want to spend so much time recording meals. I put them on fitday.com and also post them here. Too much work, I think. I'm going to record if I have met the goal or not for the day and leave it at that. So here goes.........................:D

Monthly goals for March:

1.) Keep to 25 or less Carbs for each day.

2.) Exercise three times a week. This is new for me so I thought I would start out slow.

3.) Take daily medication for thyroid and vitamins.

4.) Drink at least 64 oz. of water daily. This might not sound like much, but some days are hard for me to get all of it in. Some days I have much more than that and others, much less. This is my attempt to be more consistent. When I get used to this amount, I will increase my goal.

So for today:

1.) 25 carbs so far today.

2.) none

3.) Took meds. and vitamins

4.) 32 oz.....didn't quite make my goal

:sunny:

Hi Pam

I'm glad you had a great weekend! I totally agree with you about how our world has seemed to change and the attitudes of some of the young people today. As an ultrasound tech I see alot of very young unmarried women that are pregnant and it often times really frustrates me as they are watching their ultrasound with their group of teenage friends, many of who already have babies themselves, and it gives me the impression that having a baby is the "in" thing to do and it's all fun and games, which we very well know it isn't. Being a parent is the hardest thing in the world to me (also the most rewarding) because I want to make sure I raise my DD with good morals and values and loads of love and it is a crazy world out there today. Now I'll get off my soapbox too. It is wonderful when you see young couples that do "have their heads on syraight"! I am so glad you were able to have such a nice weekend with your niece and her fiance!!!!

GREAT job on sticking to your plan for the most part and it's great that you were getting right back to really watching it yesterday!!!

That's a good idea to try the monthly goals! I might have to give that a try too or I have even been thinking about weekly goals. Keep up the great work!

Have a Wonderful Wednesday :sunny:

Cheryl:wave2:

hey pam, i'm so glad you had a great weekend, sounds like you had a really wonderful time :bounce:

and i like your goals. they are definitely doable, and i know you can stick to them! even if you don't make the water goal every day, just keep trying, and get as much as you can. try to challenge yourself, that could make it more fun. or plan out rewards for water. hehe, sounds silly i know, but maybe it will help you get it in. that water is important! ::yes::

hope you have a great day :sunny:

Hi Pam

Yahoo, you started your exercising!!!!!! I am sooooo proud of you!!! Keep with it! You go girlfriend! Maybe we'll have to come up with some kind of exercise challeng to keep us both motivated to exercise ;) . :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce:

How have you been doing with the rest of your goals?

Have a great weekend :sunny: !

Oooooooo! It's been too long since I have written in here. Geesh! The time goes by, doesn't it??

I am going to fill a gallon jug with water and try and finish it today. That would be a first. I really struggle with the huge amounts that I should be consuming. I like water, it's not that I don't, but I usually get only a half gallon in.

I am also going to add one fruit (well, maybe 1/2 of a fruit :D ) to my day. Two halves(or less) of an apple at two different times of day. Or two halves of grapefruit or something.

The third thing I am going to try is to have more of a structure to my meals. Along with the three main meals, I will have two snacks.

I seem to be eating whenever I want to lately, and sometimes even when I just got done eating something else. Then, by the end of the day, I can't believe how much I have consumed.

I'll give this a try. Can't hurt, right??

I also think I need to start listing my meals again on here. I miss putting it in on fitday sometimes, and then I have no journal at all. There is more of an incentive to write on here for me. Does anyone else feel this way??

So here goes again...............................:)

Meal 1 choc. shake, 1 tbl. heavy cream

Carbs = 4

Meal 2 hard boiled egg, 1/2 apple

Carb = 9

Meal 3 2 cups lettuce, hardboiled egg, 1 cup spinach, 3 tbl. blue cheese dressing, 1 can tuna fish

Carb = 3

Meal 4 1/4 apple, 1/2 tbl peanut butter

Carb = 7

Meal 5 4 oz. chicken, 1/4 avacado, 2 tbl salsa, sour cream

Carb = 3

Total Carb = 26

(I edited to reflect what I REALLY ate today. :D Dinner should be what is posted )

............this is one of those weeks that I am willing to try anything to get my mind and committment back to low carb and losing again.

I've been reading on another low carb board (shhhh!!! don't tell) and someone (well, more than one person) lost weight by keeping calories low, along with carbs low. I think I might try it. Today I will be pretty close to what I want to do everyday so I'll see what happens. So far today, I feel great.......a little carb withdrawl from the past week or so ( you don't want to know).

I think that was part of my problem. I would have so many calories, even when I was doing well on keeping the carbs away, that I wasn't losing. Then, because I wasn't losing, I would go off program because of discouragement! What a vicious cycle!! I want to get off of that one right away. :moped:

Anyway........we'll see how this pans out.

It's funny, well maybe ridiculous, but even though I have been low carbing on and off (mostly off :rolleyes: ) for 8 years, I feel like I am still learning. Especially, when it comes to what is best for me.

Like John Paul Jones once said, "I HAVE NOT YET BEGUN TO FIGHT!!" You said it, Johnny!:teeth:

:sunny:

Hi Pam :wave2: . Please let me know how your experiment goes. I started adding up my daily caloric intake and about fell over. Nuts are my downfall. No wonder my weight loss has been so slow. I would really like to know if this works and what you are eating. ::yes:: Good luck!

Hi Judy, nice to see ya!! :teeth:

Well...................I lost a pound since yesterday. I'm going to try to keep this momentum going.

Yesterday was funny. In the morning I planned what I was going to eat for the day. I like it when I can do that. Anywho, the calories were probably around 1400 or so.

Then........when I was reading on this (ahem) other site, this woman was saying she drastically cut her calories (along with VERY low carbs). So...........I went back to fitday and started slashing......heehee. I got it down to just under 1000.

This woman also didn't subtract for fiber or sugar alcohols. WOW! SHE COUNTED THEM! and she only had around 20 carbs a day. So, I tried it and got to 26. Don't know if I will keep doing this. We'll see. It's interesting though.

BTW, She followed the 1972 version of Atkins. I think that is why she did what she did.

I don't want to go crazy and make more rules for myself. Let's face it, low carbing is hard in and of itself!! But I needed something to kick me in the rear and get serious. Summer is coming, I'm turning 40 next month and I have been at the same weight for 2 weeks, which is still 20 pounds higher than I was 6 months ago......AARRRGHHHH!!!

So I'm going to try it for a while. Stay tuned for any updates.

Breakfast - 2 hard boiled eggs, tea w/ splenda.

Snack - 1/4 apple w/ 1 tbl. peanut butter

Snack - 2 oz. tuna fish

Dinner - 4 oz beef, 1 tbl sour cream, salsa, 1/4 avacado, some raw veggies
