PALO???? Required dress and tipping???

May go look tomorrow for dress pants or khakis for DH but he will wear his grey pants for brunch

Are the pants the nylon type that are more a sports pant? We like dressing nicely for brunch at Palo and that fits with the setting....IMHO. We also tip more because the server may have to share tips with the servers that plate your food at the buffet.
No not sport pant looking at all, more like grey dress pant without a crease

Well I think he looks very nice in them so I guess each to their own, we will see what happens when we show up and hope for the best. They weren't cheap pants / $100 a pair, and they are very plain grey so I don't see why they would turn him away
From your mountaineer description it sounded like the type of pants that have multiple pockets and loops for hanging things with carabiners. Do you have a picture of them that you can share?

You should do what ever you think best. If you're allowed in Great; if not just be prepared to be turned away.
Or just have him wear the khakis you may get tomorrow & be done with it.
Enjoy your cruise what ever your decision.

They are plain and grey, lightweight, no creases. I think we will take our chances as he does not wear dress pants
ps... he was also planning on wearing a nice short sleeved dress shirt, this dress code is beginning to stress me out a tad!

If he really would never wear the pants again, I might suggest you look at Goodwill. They often have suits and dress pants for only a few dollars. You would be helping out a good cause and not spending money on a garment that would go unworn.

I am surprised at all of the people who have been turned away for not wearing the proper clothing. My husband and I dined at Palo for dinner during our cruise in Sept. I could not believe that 2 woman were seated at the table next to us, one of which was wearing faded blue jeans, tennis shoes, and and an old, worn polo shirt. I was honestly shocked that she was allowed to dine there dressed like that. It definitely wasn't like the jeans and top she was wearing was nice. I was not privy to why she was allowed to dine in Palo dressed like she was. The only thing I can think of is maybe her luggage was lost and that's all she had to wear? I just assumed maybe they didn't enforce the dress code.

I honestly don't get why our culture has developed such a resistance to dress clothes. Sure, when I'm at the theme parks, I'm in shorts and tennis shoes. But I don't get what's so incredibly horrible about putting on a sport coat or a dress that it's worth all the headaches over trying to figure out what you can get by with. On the podcast yesterday, Pete mentioned that if you were going to dine at Victoria and Albert's you need to wear "your Sunday best." But I honestly wonder how many people even own what used to be considered "your Sunday best" any more.

But, then again, I'm a weirdo when it comes to clothes. I wear a suit to work every day and don't find it particularly uncomfortable -- though I am ready to lose the tie at the end of the day for sure. OTOH, I don't own a pair of jeans, because I find them to be horribly uncomfortable. I'd much rather be in a nice pair of khakis when I'm dressing "casual." So go figure.

I guess one more rule I left off

(9) If you really don't understand what dress shirt, dress pants, or tennis shoes are, ask almost anyone, then see rule (1)

Palo is absolutely wonderful. People look nice, the setting and atmosphere are elegant, the food is upscale, the servers had to work (and pass several food/wine tests) hard to get those jobs, and you go away having had a great time. If you want something else, Cabanas is right there, wear what you want, and it won't cost you a cent over your cruise fare. Enjoy either one!

It is really nice to hear someone say this because this is exactly how I feel. Everyone prefers to be around people who look nice. Even people who won't admit it. I think we live in a me culture where most people do not care about how they affect other people. But manners are important. They show respect for other people. And for me trying to get through the "Palo police" wearing things that were never intended to be worn is really a slap in the face to DCL, the staff, and everyone eating there. I am sure there are people who disagree with me- obviously, or this thread would not exist.

Crisis Alerted. Bought DH a pair of khaki Haggar dress pants today. Will have them pressed on the ship and he will be good to go
