PALO???? Required dress and tipping???

When we have done Palo brunch most men wore Dockers type pants, polo style or button down shirts and women wore dresses or dress pants w/nice top.

We were once told by the Palo manager that only blue jeans are not acceptable, but black or tan coloured jeans would be fine.

When we go to palo we dress like we would for a cocktail party. Sport coat no tie for my husband and nice top and pants and heels for me. We always tip as we would any other fine restaurant. We are platinum and get a free dinner but we usually tip $30 to $40 depending on what our wine costs.

Forgot to comment on tipping. For two people we tipped $40. We each had one glass of wine. We calculated that our dinner would have cost between $150-$200 in "real" life. We were waited on hand and foot by an incredible server from Croatia (forgot name). The Palo waiters do not have access to the tip pool in your general cruise tip requirement. So if you do not tip them or do not tip them appropriately it is like you did not do so in any other restaurant on land.

I wore dressy capris and wedge shoes for Brunch. I felt my outfit was on-par with the other folks in Palo. We tipped $35 for a party of four.

LOL, Love!!!!

I don't understand the $20pp tip when you only tip $7pp for an entire day of dining services. Not to say that $7 is appropriate, but if you tip based on a land meal cost why don't you tip the dining staff the same on a daily basis? Just trying to understand the reason for one and not the other. I've had OK to exceptional service in both Palo and the main dining room and I've always tipped appropriate for the service received setting $7 as "acceptable".

Haggar pants work well. Dressy casual and a polo shirt are fine. Flip flops are not dressy. By any means. I know we have seen tennis shoes on the red carpet and some look really nice. I wouldn't risk it though. Just google some photos of palo and you will get the general idea of what people are wearing. JW

What you tip (or don't tip) is entirely up to you, the tipper.

For some, the exceptional service, atmosphere, and great food in Palo warrants a higher tip than they may give for "normal" (albeit good) service; noisy, crowded dining room; and fair to good food served in the Main Dining Rooms. For others, they may only tip a minimal amount "because they have to".

We tip more than the minimum in the main dining room (as long as service is good). I agree with Princessschmoo that this is at your discretion... as is Palo. Just saying how we think about it.

There is zero chance I would be comfortable telling a man that those would be OK for Palo. I'd go on my own rather than walk in with someone with those on. If you can get it at REI, it shouldn't be worn at Palo.

IMO.

And I get that your'e talking about brunch. We've done brunch (DH wore Dockers and a buttondown long sleeved shirt with nice shoes) and dinner (DH wore his suit).

The key to nice clothes is to get them so they fit well and are just as comfortable as REI clothing. It's possible; you just have to try to do it.
Well I think he looks very nice in them so I guess each to their own, we will see what happens when we show up and hope for the best. They weren't cheap pants / $100 a pair, and they are very plain grey so I don't see why they would turn him away

The one time we went to Palo for dinner a couple of cruises ago, my husband wore a nice black leather jacket with extremely black ligtweight jeans and a silk shirt. No tie.
He was loaned a pair of dark black trousers to wear with his shirt and jacket or we would not have been able to dine there.

The tipping is suggested and definitely you should, as a tip is NOT included in the price of dining at the adults only venues.
The wording on your final bill at the restaurant is tricky in that it will state "Additional Gratuity" thus implying that you already have tipped, but are welcome to tip more. This is not true. Your server will get a certain percentage of the reservation amount paid, but certainly not the lions share.

Brunch would be more casual but still would avoid capris and flip flops as it is noted that those are not appropriate items of attire.

Yes. In the US tennis shoes= sneakers, running shoes, basketball shoes, cross trainers, etc. Technically capris are any 3/4 pants.

Yikes. I guess that means no Palo for us in 2016. As travellers from outside the US, we can't really justify carrying a pair of dress shoes in our luggage for five weeks just to wear once during the trip. It's a shame that they're so strict, but I understand that they want to make the experience special and unique.

Attaching a price tag to something doesn't make it appropriate to wear. I own a few pairs of Tory Burch flip flops which many consider expensive, but you would not catch me trying to get into Palo with them.

From some of the things people are saying on this thread, I am wondering if one of the reasons DCL is raising prices is to cover lost tipping revenue for their employees.
