Palo, Remy or both?

We're traveling on the Dream on March 6, 2017 and want to try Remy or Palo. Trying to decide which is better since we haven't tried either before. Suggestions?

Also, my husband isn't a fan of wearing a suit on cruises - he prefers to be casual the whole time. Do either of these require us to be dressed up? Does he need the full suit? Can he get away without a jacket?

Would love a dinner one night but if there are other times to go, we're not opposed to it. Would love to hear reviews of each!

Palo I believe he can get away with just a jacket. I'm pretty sure he'd need the full suit for Remy.

Remy is much more formal (definitely suit/tie) and more of a "foodie" experience (think V&A @ WDW). For Palo a jacket and open collar dress shirt or polo will be fine. Definitely try Palo for brunch if you can get it (and he won't need the jacket for brunch). IMHO their brunch is just about the best value for a specialty restaurant at sea. Of course, Palo dinner is also pretty fantastic - you won't go wrong either way!

Don't now if others will agree but maybe try brunch at Palo to see if he likes it. Even if he doesn't like whats out and being offered, the lasagna may be the best i've ever had.

I have not done Remy, but my wife and I did do Palo for dinner on the Fantasy and it was amazing! We would absolutely do it again. I forget the exact dress code but I think they have it on the web site? I feel like I saw it before we left somewhere. Anyway, I do highly recommend Palo!

Palo
To preserve the elegant ambiance of this restaurant, you are asked to adhere to a dress code when dining at Palo. We recommend dress pants or slacks and a collared shirt for men, and a dress, skirt or pants and a blouse for women. Jeans may also be worn if in good condition (no holes). Please no tank tops, swimsuits, swimsuit cover-ups, shorts, hats, cut-offs, torn clothing, t-shirts with offensive language and/or graphics, flip-flops or tennis shoes

Remy
Dinner
At dinnertime, the following dress code is enforced:

  • Men: A jacket (such as a sports, suit or tuxedo jacket) is required, with dress pants/slacks and shoes. Ties are optional. Please no jeans, shorts, sandals, flip-flops or tennis shoes.
  • Ladies: Cocktail dress, evening dress, pant suit or skirt/blouse are required. Please no jeans, shorts, capri pants, sandals, flip-flops or tennis shoes.
Brunch and Dessert
During brunch and dessert, the following dress code is enforced:

  • Men: Dress pants and a shirt are required for men. A jacket is optional. Please no jeans, shorts, capri pants, sandals, flip-flops or tennis shoes.
  • Women: A dress or pantsuit is required. Please no jeans, shorts, capri pants, sandals, flip-flops or tennis shoes.

-------
And yes they absolutely enforce it. Have done Palo brunch and it was very good. The greaters were upity in my opinion but the service staff and food were well worth it. I just wore a dress shirt and slacks. Wife wore a cocktail dress.

IMHO they are both worth wearing a suit.

I love Palo and Remy but Remy is definitely outstanding. Best meals of my life!

To me, the wine pairings at Remy are truly amazing and on par with the best I have tried on Michelin rated restaurants on land. I've tried the French, white truffles, and old American dinner menus and all were spectacular. Yesterday, I got to try one dish from the brand new American menu and I can't wait to try the full experience on my next cruise. I've tried brunch at both Palo and Remy, the Remy dessert experience, and dinner at Palo, but the Remy dinner is what I've come to look forward to every cruise.

I just learned that they rotate the white truffles menu with an entirely different black truffles menu when the season starts in January so that is now on my Remy bucket list along with the new American menu.

I loved Palo brunch and dinner, and thought Remy brunch was okay. I would have liked Remy brunch better if there had been a menu with different things to choose from, rather than the one set menu that was presented. I wouldn't have chosen any of the items served at my Remy brunch off a menu that had other choices, so that diminished the experience for me. I did ask for and received a substitution for one item I really can't stand to eat, but was a good girl and ate the other courses as they were offered. Both brunch and dinner at Palo feature multple choices for every course, so I was happier there to get to eat things I genuinely like.

I had good service from everyone at both restaurants, from the greeters to the waiters to the chef at Palo who came out to say hi. Can't wait to go to Palo next cruise, & will also give Remy dinner a try, since I know that dinner there features two set menus to choose from, rather than only one.

If your husband insists on always being casual, I'd stick to Palo brunch. It's definitely the most casual DCL adult dining experience on offer.

Get him to dress up and go to Remy. Best meal you'll ever have and you'll be talking about it for years! :yay:

At the Palo Brunch do they still show you the food and then bring what you want to the table? I know that a couple of years ago they showed you the food and then you just helped yourself. However, on the last cruise we were on we told them what we wanted and they brought it to us. I personally liked getting my own food because I like trying everything, getting small portions of lots of different food.

On our cruise on the Fantasy in October we had the option to serve ourselves so we did.

On our recent December cruise (Fantasy) my server suggested the champagne pairing for my dinner at Remy which I would never had realized was an option. Loved it!!! I did the American menu (with slight changes because I'm allergic to seafood). I had no idea it was possible to match champagne with so many different dishes. I'd always thought of it more as a standalone drink or pre-dinner drink.

We did the Remy dinner, brunch and dessert as well as Palo dinner and brunch (did the latter two with friends). DH did the white truffle addition for Remy dinner. Now it's diet time (especially since we followed up with the 10 course menu at V&A at WDW a few days later).

I think it's nice to try both but based on what you said about our husband I would suggest Palo. For brunch at Palo I've worn a dress/khaki pants (no jeans or shorts) with a long sleeve dress shirt and tie, Tommy Bahama short sleeve Hawaiian type shirt (solid color not Hawaiian print). I've also worn a suit and jacket with a dress shirt and no tie for dinner at Palo. Also no tennis shoes or sandals are allowed.

I highly recommend Remy. On our two cruises we booked Remy; we've never tried Palo. I wore a sport coat, button down shirt, tie and khakis at Remy. (I don't own a suit.) Did not have an issue either time.

Enjoy whichever you choose...

At Palo Brunch on the Fantasy a few weeks ago they served the items I chose from the brunch table. They certainly seemed like they would have been happy to give me a portion of every single item on the table if I had wanted that. I never felt limited at all- they kept encouraging me to try more items.

They also never told me that I couldn't serve myself, btw. So maybe they were just being great servers, & if I had asked they would have let me serve myself. Don't know.

Your server will escort you around the various buffet tables, explaining what the various dishes are. Sometimes your server will actually serve what you point out onto your plate. Other times, you can serve yourself.

Then you can order from the various entrees available (from a menu from what I've recently heard) that your server will bring to you.

We are on the same cruise and have booked brunch at Palo and dinner at Remy :) Our first cruise so I can't recommend one or the other but we are excited to try both!

Yes, they have a menu now. With some new items. We ordered a couple of times from it. DH had the lasagna which he said was the best he'd ever had. I just wasn't able to eat any of it - I'd already had far too much. A friend of ours also tried the calzone which he said was also very good.

We weren't served except for the menu items. We filled our own plate. The server did follow me and point out items I couldn't eat (seafood allergy). The day after we were at Palo, some people on board were sick so they locked everything down from the buffet to the drink station to the ice cream station (which somehow just didn't impact the amount of that I ate). So I'm guessing that the servers were probably serving everybody after that day.
