Palin Under the Bus

I don't know if any of the accusations are true or not, but I would think Senator McCain could easily put it all to rest if he were to make a statement about it.

Exactly.

We are Republicans that supported and voted for McCain. I didn't say that he is directly behind all this trash that's coming out against Palin. At the end of the day, his campaign staff is proving, once and again, how pathetic and disjointed they really are. In the end, like it or not, it reflects poorly on Mc Cain and his choices.

Right he was unable to create a unity in his campaign and it came home to roost.

As a Republican you know that McCain is not so well liked in the base, hence the Palin pick. He really thought it would bridge that gap.

I think he handled her very poorly.

The party elite weren't happy with the choice to begin with, and feel that she's an easy target now. The funny thing to me is that John McCain wouldn't have gotten my vote without her.

Me either. She is the ONLY reason I voted for the Republicans...she was the only one out of the four. (true conservative that is)

I think they're trying to find a "fallguy" for their own failings. Truth is, McCain ran a dull and failing campaign. It was poorly managed, and poorly executed. Now the people responsible for his campaign are throwing her under the bus because they're trying to get a foothold in other "camps" so they can secure jobs for the next round of campaigns and want to walk away from their dismal job performance this round by putting all the blame on Palin.

The media dislikes her for one reason. She intimidates them. They are not used to having someone thrust upon them who could really care less what the media thinks of them. She is smart, truthful, articulate, and has a track record of not putting up with any crap. The media can't handle someone telling them how it's gonna be, so they try to destroy her because they know that when she is in a position of power, she won't put up with their stunts, or their lies, and they'll have nothing they can do about it. She scares them (but in a good way) because she is not the "norm".

The more the media dislikes her, the more I love her. I hope she understands just how much those of us in the "lower 48" who supported her in this election would love to continue that support in the years to come. :)

absolutely. Common sense doesn't come in the form of ivy league degrees. We've had more than one shining example of that fact from both sides of the political fence.

Although I don't care for her personally, and I never supported her, I'm really beginning to feel bad for her. They used her like a pawn to suit their purpose, and now they're tossing her aside. It's despicable. :sad2:

It is kind of gross isn't it?? We're not in high school anymore...GROW UP!! McCain staffers

And you thought "Mean Girls" was bad. Welcome to "Mean Politics".

They are trying to blackball her but they may not be successful.

As far as I can tell her base came to the polls.:confused3

This isn't rocket science people.

1. McCain's aides were paid to win an election.
2. They lost.
3. They'd like to work again, but who wants to hire losers?
4. Therefore, they must convince potential future clients that their client lost due to an independent intervening cause (Palin).

I don't doubt that her base did come out and support her but "her base" will never win a national election. Not even come close and the republican party knows this. She appeals to the far right wing which is more concerned with anti abortion, gun control, religous, anti gay positions and other "family values."

Real fiscally conservative republicans, of which she ain't and neither is bush for that matter, seem to find themselves with nowhere to go.

Fox is not saying these things about Palin. They are reporting what others are saying about her.

You summed it up well.

Why do you think McCain campaign staffers are thowing SP under the bus?

I don't intend for this to be a thread bashing Palin. I would like to know people's theories on why this is happening.

It doesn't surprise me in the least.

The McCain campaign let her do their dirty work, and now that it's over and they all have to play nice and act like civilized people, they're embarrassed. It only makes sense that they would want to distance themselves from her given that her behavior came off as a cross between a very mean sorority girl and a rabid right-wing radio host. She wasn't professional; she was an attack dog. I don't doubt she fully embraced the job she was given; she seemed more than happy to trash Obama. But now that it's over, they have no use for her.

I think she'll be lucky is she is elected for a second term as governor. In any event, she's done on the national scene. She'll make the rounds of the talk shows. She'll write a book. And that will be it.

You don't think it might be the aides that came over from the Romney camp? It stands to reason that they would have an axe to grind about Romney being passed over for VP - especially for someone they feel is much less qualified.

absolutely. Common sense doesn't come in the form of ivy league degrees. We've had more than one shining example of that fact from both sides of the political fence.

Your negative assertion that ivy league degrees doesn't equate to common sense (which I agree with, take a look at W (who, BTW got declined admission to my lawschool)) doesn't lead to an affirmative conclusion that everyone who didn't get an ivy league degree does, in fact, have common sense.

Here's one theory on what we are seeing with Palin, which has been supported in a couple of articles I have read both before and after the election. Since we have no way to know what is really going on, I put it out there as speculation… and because its kinda fun :) What we are seeing here could be reflective of a much deeper issue within the Republican party, rather than one or two people (like Romney staffers) saying bad things.

When people speak of the Republican base, there are really TWO bases, or at least there were. There is the evangelical side and what some have called the "intellectual conservative" side. You have the focus on the family people on the one side and the fiscal conservatives on the other. Bush (really Rove) united the two sides by catering to both sides (speaking of tax cuts and "activist judges"). However, it was a marriage of convenience, with the fiscal conservatives only tolerating the evangelicals.

However, you are now seeing the unraveling of that union. As the Republican party tries to figure out where to go from here, the fiscal conservatives don't want the evangelicals to retain a power role in the party - and thus they are moving to make Palin, the unofficial head of that side, irrelevant.

You see this a couple of ways - but the most telling is the fact the Fox is leading the charge on the story. Murdoch has long said he doesn't agree with the evangelicals' "extreme" view on abortion and his own' WSJ recently had an opinion piece arguing FOR gay marriage.

I'm confused.

What does any of this have to do with Sarah Palin????

The poster I quoted seemed to equate the fact that she only has a single degree, and not an ivy league one, at that, therefore she was not intelligent.

From what I have read, it is quite common in that part of the country (and correct me if I am wrong-I don't live there) for people to go to multiple schools through the course of their degree. I know many people here in my area that went to 2 or 3 at least before they got their undergrad.

Also, Sarah Palin did not start out with a political agenda from the time she was in high school, and she made that clear. Her start came from a desire to work in her schools and communities to make them better in whatever ways she could. People obviously thought that she had something to say, and it was worth listening to, as they prodded her to reach for bigger and better by running for city council, then mayor, then governor, etc.

If you call Sarah Palin stupid, you are calling the entire state of Alaska stupid, as they happily voted her in, and she holds the highest approval rating EVER for a sitting governor of any state.

That's ridiculous because the entire country of America is not stupid and they voted in a simpleton twice and bought the WMD crapola with open arms.

As for her "approval rating" and this is from the Christian Broadcasting Network:

Mixed Reception at Home

Two months ago, Palin was the GOP's rising star, credited with energizing the party's conservative base and infusing new life into Arizona senator John McCain's presidential campaign.

But now that the election is over, Palin goes back to Alaska to a mixed reception.

"When she left, she was almost universally liked, universally approved of," explained Alaska pollster Ivan Moore. "Her approval rating was up over 80 percent. Then she went down onto the national campaign trail and her approval rating has come down to 60 percent and her negative rating has pretty much tripled."

So much for Alaska cheering her on. :rolleyes1

It is amazing to me that in this day and age someone can be so filled with hatred and intolerance. :sad1:

these people trying to scape goat Palin make their living from working on campaigns....thus if the wheels came off and everyone recognizes that it was a very poorly run campaign then they can be thought as very bad at their jobs thus they need to shift the blame in another direction if they ever hope to work in this "business again
