Is he worth buying instead of renting? What does he do at home? (dumb question - does he run on batteries?)

He plays simon says type games and tells corny jokes when he is not in the parks.

He does work in all four parks.

And yes he runs on batteries. He also has an On/Off Switch. So you can turn him off to save the batteries when you are not using him.

As far as Buying vs Renting... If think you can rent and then change your mind and buy paying only the difference.

Have Fun!

I'm a real Disney fan and defender of almost all things mouse, but I really am sorry I shelled out fifty bucks for that toy. I thought it would be a great guide with lots of obscure facts about the parks. Actually he was so hard to hear and he only told me a few things at Epcot's world showcase. I anticipated so much more that I thought he wasn't working right until I asked a couple with one at Illuminatiions and they said they had the same experience with it that we did. I know some people have loved it and that is why we bought it instead of renting. My suggestion is to rent and then buy if you like it. Try before you buy!

Just got back from using Pal Mickey and we really, really enjoyed him. Sure there could be more spots where he gives information but he still offers lots of helpful and fun insight.

The belt clip is terrible though so we used a camera strap so he hung like a necklace and he was never in the way. Also, by doing this it was easier to bring him up to our ears when he had something to say.

A couple of cool things he did:

-In AK when we were walking down a path he said "you already went this way, perhaps you should try the other path so you see something new"

-In epcot he pointed out the talking water fountains.

-On a scary ride he would be nervous beforehand and make funny comments about it afterwards.

-In AK on the jungle trek he pointed out the animals and told us interesting facts about them.

-He gave clues about hidden mickeys.

In closing, I cannot imagine going to WDW without him. He is the ultimate tourguide.

I am thinking we will probably buy Mickey because we will be in parks for 8 days, but if we decided to rent first, will the Mickey we get be brand new? NO offense to anyone but I don't want a Mickey some toddler has slobbered on or dropped etc. Since he is a stuffed animal how do they clean the things?

Also if you rent a used Mickey and decide to buy can you get a new one?

Apparently when returned, the Pal Mickey's are sent out and refurbished, then returned for rental. Apparently this takes a bit of time. the long and short of it, though, is that you should not get one that is dirty, etc. if renting.
