I took off this week M-W, it is DD's spring break. WE were going to paint her room SHE gets invited to a B-day sleepover/waterpark thing, started at 9:00 this morning, I pick her up tomorrow at noon.

I painted the lime green wall. It looks great. This is one wall out of 4.

I start in on the blue, which should be for the other 3 walls, I DON'T LIKE IT. I mean, I REALLY don't like it, and I'm not sure that DD will either. It is sort of a bright baby blue. Nasty. It really needs to match the 3M painter's tape, IMO. Both blues are in her bedding.

So - I am tempted to wait until tomorrow so she can see this. I hate to waste the time painting the rest of the room. On the other hand, by the time I get her from the party tomorrow, and get home, it will be 12:30. Having her look at the room and decide will take to 12:45. The paint store excursion will take over an hour, the earliest I can be painting then tomorrow is about 2:00.

Logistically - the paint store didn't have samples of the blues - they were out - so I can't even go pick some up and have DD make a decision on the fly - which could at least save a little time.

I just SO want to be done with this, and get her stuff out of my room, and, I want to start cleaning up~because she has a b-day sleepover on Friday night.

As always - thanks for listening!

Oh no!!

I hate how colors never look the same in the room. Color is so tricky!! And painting is so time consuming.

Why not take a sample of the bedding to the paint store with you(and all the cans of blue paint)? Have them adjust the color for you. We did this with our Pepto-Bismal Master Bedroom paint--supposed to be a soft rose  I sure couldn't live with that stuff.

Go to the Home Depot or Sherwin Williams or wherever you are buying the paint and grab every paint sample you like or think you will like and bring them home and look at the samples in her room and you will get a much better idea of how the color will turn out.

behr makes a color that is called Blazing Blue the number is 1A42-5 that is the same color as the bright blue 3M tape. Make sure you get the primer coat tinted as well so the color will be even on the walls.

Does your dd have a good sized room? I ask because these color combinations will make the room look smaller than it really is.

Good Luck with the project!!!

Minkydog - what a great idea - I never would have thought to try to reuse the "nearly full" gallon.

They definitely made the color we requested. No doubt about that. It just looks SO different on the wall than on the paint chip.

We did take the bedding with us when we picked out the colors on Saturday. And, the nasty blue is in her bedding - out of the 3 different blues, we picked the one that has the similar effect as the "pepto-bisnal" did.

I'm sorry that the painting is not going well. DH and I just painted our youngest son's room blue (and by blue, I mean it looks like a smurf threw up in it) and I'm still trying to make myself like it. My little boy loves it though, so that's what counts. When we were trying to pick out a color for our bedroom, we went to Home Depot and Glidden had a package of paint samples that stuck to your walls kind of like post-it notes. They were about $2.50 a pack and each one had a ton of different color choices in it. It was a great way to get an idea about a color without actually painting anything on the walls. I hope that the process goes better for you. :)

Choosing paint is nervewracking, and then it never looks right to me on the wall. For a long time, every room in our house was white, and then I started to venture into color (as an avid HGTV watcher :)). Deciding on a paint color, then choosing the particular shade of color, then getting it home and starting to paint and thinking it's way off, so do I wait until it dries, stop painting now, or what? And then it looks different in different light. Ugh. I sympathize.
And then people say "It's just paint...you can paint over it." I know that...but I don't wanna!

Having said that, now that I've got every room pretty much done, I feel like painting something. :)

When we did DD's TINK room I didn't like the colors at first either but when they really dried they all came together.

contact store and see if they can re tint,, most can now, and will at little or no charge, also, if paint does not match the color chip they may call it a mistint, ( hey it happens) and replace hte gallon for you.

LOL, my mother had the same thing happen in her bathroom. It was called Foxy Pink. My cousin, who did the painting was able to salvage it by rag rolling the lighter pink colors from my bathroom over it.

Did you guys know that we have a new board dedicated to home improvement projects now? (I know I've seen a few of you guys over there already :) )

Here is a LINK if you want to check it out!

Cass - Can't take any pics as DD has the camera with her at the sleepover.

We actually have a small update - DH and I went out to dinner, then grocery shopping, and then asked me if I to know the phone number where DD was sleeping over. We happened to be a couple of blocks away from the sleepover house. I talked to DD for about 2 minutes, explained the situation, and politely asked her if I could come over and show her which color I was thinking would be a better choice (the color scheme is on her pillowcase). She hates pastel colors, and the "pepto-bismal" blue was sort of a bright pastel.
th
DD agreed that the darker blue would be acceptable.

So now, I can head out to the paint store when the open at 7:00, I'll get home about 7:45, and I can paint my arms off until I need to leave to get DD.

I went on the Sherwin Williams web site tonight, they actually have the green, on their website, it is Dancing Green.Dancing Green Unfortunately, the website doesn't do this color justice. It is a little brighter on the wall, more like a muted lime green.

The nasty blue is here: Candid Blue The blue looks exactly this bright. I actually was able to paint both the colors into a sample room, and printed it out, so that DD knows I wasn't joking around with her.

The blue I like best is Lupine Lupine

A similar looking blue is Sporty Blue, which is just a tad lighter that the Lupine:Sporty BLue

Again - thanks for listening! I'll be all better by tomorrow! I just hope to get tons done before DD wants to help!

Something that I either read or was told, can't remember where I got the information but if you take the strips at SW or other paint to find a complementary color to the one you have use the same paint and the color should be the same place in the strip. So if the green is the middle color a blue that is the middle color in the same line will complement. I've used this when painting and so far it has worked very well, my 14yo DD's room is lime & blue but they are very bright colors. They are Hyper Blue - 6965 & Electric Lime - 6921

Cloudless is a blue that matches your green color. It has something to do with the hues warm or cool.

I went back to Sherwin Williams this morning. Neither of the colors I picked out last night were going to work...Lupine and Sporty blue OUT. Just too purply.

The paint guy and I did pick out a great blue, and they were fabulous about retinting the "Nasty Blue" into "Fabulous Blue." I actually bought an additional quart, as I wasn't sure if the gallon was going to be enough in the first place.

Unfortunately, I can't tell you the name, because he mixed the quart exactly like the gallon. I.e. started with the "nasty blue" and then tinted to get the "fabulous blue" that way, and while I was mixing the two as I was going, to avoid a color difference if I ran out in the middle of the wall.

Let me just say this..."fabulous blue" says it all.

Just have one more wall to paint, I'll get that after I pick up DD from her sleepover. Another hour or hour and a half...I'll be done...Yeah!
