Painful white lump on my tongue

When i get canker sores I use medicated mouth wash. It hurts to high heck but the canker is gone in a day or so.. you can also swish ( dont swollow) with a mixture of equal parts of milk of magnesia and benedryl

I have Crohns, too - get them all the time.

I keep Magic Mouthwash at home; numbs it long enough to get some food down and it helps it heal a little faster. You can get an RX for it if it doesn't go away quickly.

We called them "Lie bumps" too. I usually get them if I've eaten a lot of either something sweet or something sour.

If they bother me too badly...I just rip 'em out!

(and sorry if that was TMI - lol)

Usually, they will go away on their own in a couple of days.

Me too! If I over eat Clementines at Christmas time it happens!
Lemonade also does it.

I wish I could remember the name of the mouthwash that I had that clears it in a few days. I got a sample but I am sure they sell it at a CVS etc. I would check it out and ask the pharamacist if he can help you. Believe it or not we used to put powdered alumn on them and really they were gone in a day. I just do not know where you get it anymore. Most likely it is one of those substances that are no longer available on the market because they cause some dire problems. I say if you can find some alumn.....go for it. It puckers your mouth but if you put it on twice it will be gone.

I used alum as a child also and it does work. It cauterizes the edges of the canker so it can't grow. Now I use a styptic pencil. It has alum in it. It can be found near shaving items like razors. It works great on canker sores inside the cheeks or mouth but not so great on the cankers on tongues.

Cantalope melons give them to me. Rinse your mouth with salt water, as Doc suggested. A baking soda solution works well for me, too. Or place an antacid (like tums) on the spot and hold it there. It may burn a little, but that seems to help.

I'm weird and I'd have to try to pop that thing. It's one of my oddities, but I can't stand things like that, I have to pop 'em.

I'm a popper too! I also have a canker sore...maybe this thread was bad luck?

Did you bite your tongue recently? I sometimes get an ulcer when I bite my tongue or the inside of my cheek. And it looks a lot like what you have. It's like, I have bitten through the skin and that little open sore becomes ulcerated. And usually it will swell at the bite mark, especially if I bit down hard. That might explain why yours is more of a raised bump than a crater/canker.

What a great idea! I will get one and keep it in my travel case. When I travel seems to be the time in get cankers.

Oh please get it checked out. My cousin had one and every doctor said it was nothing.

She was not a smoker or a drinker.

Diagnosed with tongue cancer at 35, dead at 37, leaving behind a 3 and a 6 year old.

If we only had someone to tell her to continue pushing for a diagnoses she might be alive.

My Grandma also was not a smoker or drinker, and died of tongue cancer. But, I would wait a week or so to see if it clears up. If not, by all means, go see a doctor.

Luckily it seems better toady, not as much pain and definately getting smaller. I think someone may have been right and somehow I bit it and didn't realize it..sometime it feels like my tongue gets stuck on my teeth back there because my wisdom tooth is coming through..who knows..I just hope it keeps getting better. Thanks everyone for your advice and info.

If it comes back I will definately get it checked out by the doctor.

did you ever find out what it was? Did it completely go away?

I've been looking all over the internet and your pics look exactly how mine does.

any info you could give would be awesome. Thank you!

Wow, this is blast from the past. Yeah it just got better after a couple days. I haven't had the problem since and I had my wisdom teeth removed on that side. So I think I must bit it or got it pinched in my wisdom teeth.

I was wondering also.....did you have a cold or some kind of virus when it happened?
