Paid FP options coming soon to WDW?

My uneducated guess is the problem is tied to wanting to increase capacity. The more they increase capacity without any form of Fastpass / Reservation / Virtual Queue in place, the more likely it could be a lousy experience for guests. Since waiting to increase capacity for the new system could be costly, I suspect the easy solution is throw Fastpass in place until the new one is ready.

Especially since some queues were not designed to handle non-fastpass standby lines... although, I am not sure that they care anymore about lines spilling out into the park and even into backstage areas.

This. Not just costly. It isnt integrating easily so their hand is forced by increased capacity to do something. I'm of the opinion a hybrid version is coming, just not yet

I can certainly understand the frustration that people feel and the negative perception over recent events, but I doubt Disney is oblivious or uncaring to the issues created with increasing capacity. I would guess it is more about the decision makers trying to balance multiple factors. For example, if they push out a broken Fastpass system that loses half the users reservations, it will quickly turn into a dissatisfier that will have several guests saying "I am NEVER going through that again." I do agree that it would be easier just to jump to the new system rather than implement the old system and swap to new system later so they are probably trying to do that if they can get the system stable and reliable in time. Finally there is the factor of how bad is it to hold capacity low over most children's vacations and lock out potential guests who want to come to the parks during school break. I am sure they are weighing these different factors internally and making what they believe is the best decision. There is no advantage for Disney to disregard the summer guest's experience.
In short, it is not that Disney doesn't care about summer guests, just some summer guests are not happy with the end results of Disney's decisions. I am frustrated myself with the lack of answers on Fastpass, but I honestly don't think it is because they don't care.

Someone in the know has already stated that the old FP+ system has been tested and works. Disney has increased capacity via park reservations at least 3x in the last few weeks for July. They need to do something. Those of us who booked trips knew that not having FP was a risk, but we also booked trips when capacity #s were much lower.

Maybe the announced policy for EMH for on-site (a.m.) and on-site Deluxe guests (p.m.) is testing the waters for some sort of FP system, based on staying on-site.

I missed the pm EMH announcement regarding Deluxe/Villas stays. These will be on select nights only from what I understand. Have a tripped booked for April at GF. If I want to take advantage of this, and with the Theme park ressies needed to be made early, how would I know which Park to book (no park hopping) if I don’t know which Park will be offering the pm EMH? Am I missing something?

They have yet to announce a schedule yet. Personally, I’d book the hardest to get parks, MK and HS, then change your schedule if you need to once they do put out the schedule. But at the rate they’re increasing capacity, it’s probably not going to be an issue.

Plus, you only have to have checked into you’re chosen park for the day. You can always hop to the EMH park.

I can imagine they are waiting to see the response to this announcement but ultimately I fear they are going to go the Universal route.

Paid FP+ Express pass like system. Free to Deluxe guests.

They make money on people buying for the paid pass with cash.

They also make money on people who might have stayed at Value/Moderate now staying at Deluxe to get the complimentary Express pass.

Then they also make money on renting out those moderate/value rooms that have opened up from people Plus-Sizing their vacation.

Many posters suggest offering more free FPs for guests staying moderate and even more for deluxe guests. Does anyone think MDE is set up to distinguish resort category when assigning free FPs? I wonder if the deluxe only EMH is the alternative to giving extra free FPs to deluxe guests.

If they wanted to integrate something like that (and the systems can talk to each other) they would just have to put a line check to see what level your resort is. Not knowing anything about their programming and how it works, but if they wanted to do something like that it wouldn't be difficult.

you’re making a ton of assumptions, which based on my understanding of Disney IT don’t make any sense. If their data structures and the way they share data between software aligns perfectly, it’s still unlikely to be a “line of programming”.

And Disney’s systems don’t all talk to each other perfectly or with pristine predictability, so add in data definitions (is a deluxe resort defined in the data), do they want to have exceptions to hard and fast resort rules, are there other qualifiers that exist in other systems (DVC member, AP holder, Disney Credit Card), and you’ve already got more than a line of code worth of logic to account for and scale.

I cannot help but chuckle at this response. Back in the dark ages I actually studied Automated Information Systems and considered going into programming before selecting a different career. I remember the old saying: GIGO (garbage in, garbage out).
