Paid FP options coming soon to WDW?

This thread should be titled the FP+ Speculation sensational....
The funny thing is, the rumor of Disney going to a paid FP has been around since about the 2nd day FP in any form started. This is not a new theory at all, just re-ignited.

As far as having to do something to entice on site stays...anyone taken a look at availability lately? Despite there being virtually no advantage whatsoever to staying on site, there is very little available, even with the increases on capacity - no perks, paltry discounts, higher prices, less services and yet they're still filling their resorts. Will that last once more resorts open? Dunno...but if WDW guests have taught me anything during the re-opening process it's that they'll complain and threaten and then they'll go book the vacations they always book at higher prices with less being offered. Disney, specifically Chapek, knows this and will push it as far as guests will put up with it. So far, the limit has not been reached.

I have a reservation myself after over a year of waiting- but, it's very iffy at best. Because availability is so thin, I booked. But I want FP and I want dessert parties and if neither of those come before the end of next month, I'll cancel. The limit has been reached with me, just wish there were more of me.

I think a lot of people are *currently* willing to accept sub-standard Disney because they’re just so burnt out on covid, needing a vacation, needing something fun to look forward to, looking at limited travel options etc. I think many are just happy to get whatever they can right now in a whole lot of different situations, even beyond Disney. But I’d be surprised if the general population was still happy with these changes and willing to pay for this pared-down experience a year or more out. I truly do expect most things to go back to normal more or less, and I believe included fastpass+ will remain an on-site perk, at least the 3 we’ve always been given before. There needs to be some incentive to keep people staying onsite. Contrary to what most think, Disney isn’t bulletproof.

Eventually you get enough people who dont even remember the past that it becomes the new normal. Look at how many people accepted the over crowded mnsshp and look at how many people forgot how empty evening emh would be and now its a paid upcharge.

Revenge travel is a real thing. People are travelling right now just because they can. It won't last more than a year or two though. I'm in Canada and have 2 trips just planned for September outside of Canada. Once the UK can travel Disney will be booked solid for another uear but bu mid 2023 things will start to die down and people won't be staying on property anymore if theu fond better deals elsewhere.

I agree with you. For the foreseeable future I think many people are going to choose bucket list vacations, familiar destinations where they can feel comfortable, and domestic travel—categories that WDW fits. I’ll leave out those who choose remote locations where one can avoid contact with other people. That’s still plenty of prospective customers. With pent up demand and built up savings, Disney will try to grab a piece of that pie while they can.

I’m really torn as to whether to try to get my AP reinstated. WDW was an easy vacation for me as I understood the old rules. With so many changes and deletions, I’m just not sure I’ll enjoy it as much. I loved ending my day at MK to watch HEA. I wouldn’t go until next year, anyway.

I was able to book Dolphin, including resort fees, for the same price as POP. Guests are willing to pay a price premium to Disney.

Posters think Disney needs to give resort guests free FP. Look at Boo sales. Offering resort guests a priority in purchasing FP might be sufficient.

I am not sure what discount algorithm you are using but the Dolphin for the same time frame as Pop will cost us $2750 more.

September 24-27. POP was rack rate. Dolphin was AP rate. AAA and senior rate would have been close. Dolphin was just over $200 plus resort fee.

Dolphin is a convention hotel. Deeply discounted rates are available when business bookings are down.

Can't tell if you know this by how your post is worded, but HEA returns next week!

I agree with someone else that prices often fluctuate but I do see a lot of people looking at Swan and Dolphin in place of other resorts because of the price and accommodations often. Pop has gotten quite expensive too over time for being what it is. Not that there is anything wrong with Pop but it's gotten up there in cost.

And whenever people talk about what their stay will cost there's too much to get a good comparison from what type of rate did you book, when did you book, who did you book with and more. Disney can raise prices after someone books and so long as they don't change things in their reservation they can stay at that rate but if you go changing Disney adds in the price adjustment, then there is discounts for all places (like a special rate for a membership or a room rate only) and then length of stay and when that stay falls (weekend, holiday, weekday, pricing seasons, etc).

But I would say the other person's point is still there that Disney doesn't have to offer people much incentive to stay with them, I've seen a lot of people say they will only stay on site and while they gripe about diminishing values (which is totally fair) they won't look to stay elsewhere and often the urge is still there in a strong enough amount to continue to go to Disney. No way is really wrong at all just something people do have to consider when thinking about dollars-spent.

I have two different trip spreadsheets going. One with us staying on-site and one with us staying off-site. Which one I go with depends solely on whether Disney allows FP+ back and if it is free or reduced cost.

is there quite a big difference between the two cost wise

"Oh S***$"? LOL

We learned early on to not count on the money allocated as enough to cover everything. There is always something stupid that happens and having that money prevents us from needing to dig into our spending money. This is the gift card I get to put that money on so it does not get mixed into the rest of our money for spending, tips, etc.
