Packing for the plane

United are rolling out wireless and expected to be in economy seating this September. With that in mind the IPad count in this household may increase before we leave.

Just did a shop at the games shop in the city today for lots of small time waster games..... Tangrams, pack of cards, NYC logic puzzle, drawing game in a box about 5cm square, logic cards and travel boggle. Something missing off the list but I spent $35 and think it will be worth every cent. Will add kids trash mags to it, have typo pens and notebooks and a travel journal each. If they can't cope with that then I will be in a straighjacket in the seat near the toilets rocking back and forth.

Omg if united have Internet I would be there in a shot, I can spend hours surfing the net.

Not sure how much access but to be able to stream ur own content will keep us happy enough in flight.

Do many airlines have the ability to let you charge your electronics on board? All this talk of ipads/iphones etc but my ipod touch/iphone lasts maybe 8 hours of use before it conks out (with screen light on low, only music, no wifi) and if wifi is on with apps in use, it'll last maybe 3hours. I know in business class they have electrical sockets but how about economy? (cannot remember from our last flight, but I didn't think Air NZ did)

check www.seatguru.com and see if they have charge points
I know that a fair few aircraft have chargers in the first section of economy...just check the site..:wave2:

You can also get extra batteries that are like an extra case and click into the ipod/iphone that you can pre-charge.
DH bought afew in Thailand in April and loves them. I am sure you can buy them here.
Do you guys all take adaptors or rely on the hotels/buy them there?

C

We always buy a mag too, and same as someone else mentioned because we don't buy them very often they are a real treat.

Most airlines don't have anywhere to charge anything in the standard economy seats. I think Virgin has the usb slot with the IFE, but other then that I haven't seen anything.

We always take adapters with us. It never even occurred to me to ask at the hotel for one :confused3

carlo loves IFE and will amuse himself for the whole ride watching endless hours of tv and movies and playing games via the IFE.

trina and i are readers, so for us the kindle is a must. my kindle doesn't have a book light, and we used the overhead lights last time to read... i think i would have preferred my own book light though, so that will be on my list next flight. a pashmina to keep warm, a lumbar pillow and my own tvshows on my ipad and i'm good to go.

i took my ipod on the last trip and didn't use it once. iphone for stupid mindless games, like bejewelled and angry birds etc although getting frustrated at your phone at 37000 feet... not so relaxing :)

we also buy several trashy magazines that we normally wouldn't buy before every flight, especially if we're on an internal flight in the usa. their trashy mags are much more ridiculous than our trashy mags, and i don't feel bad about leaving them in the departure lounge for other people. they are also usually stupidly cheap, like only $2 or so.... i usually gift them to others, asking if they would like them..everyone i've done this to has been happy to receive them .. i guess a lot of people in airports read trashy magazines :wave2:

one of my friends who travelled with kids had a small kids suitcase (one of those small backpack-y style ones) packed with games/books/puzzles etc and they could choose one new gift from the bag once they were done playing with their current game/book/puzzle/matchbox car etc. it was a godsend apparently, and she gifted the puzzles and matchbox cars etc to other disney travellers with kids that she saw in the parks when their kids were close to a meltdown :)
