You raise a very good question! I think we're all still trying to work through all of this, and we haven't worked through everything yet. I REALLY appreciate you asking... I think this needs to be considered.

Im really glad that you are not flaming me :furious: I never meant to be a beggar , and you took it correctly. Thank you

thank you all so much for the  's and well wishes. To me its just everyday life. I do what I can and day by day. It means a lot to me to have us in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you.

Great minnie petti skirt.

Tom, Leighanna's looks sure have changed a lot over the short course of the summer. She looks darling ... I love a child with missing front teeth. What a great way to go back to school.

What, you aren't going to make another simba outfit?

I don't know if you are like me, but once I do a couple of the same outfit I can't stand to look at the fabric any more!

NO! :rotfl2:
It's not the fabric that I'm sick of, it's the Simba applique. Both times I've done that applique, it's given me fits, so I won't be doing another Simba for quite some time!

That's it for now. Last week I made her three nightgowns, a brown and pink knit dress, and a cherry outfit. I didn't get any pictures of any of it.

WOW!! FABULOUS!!!! I love it all! My favoritest one is the brown and blue!! I've noticed I always gravitate towards fabrics with brown in them. What's up with that?

This may be a little bit tacky, and if I offend anyone I truly am sorry. But what make someone elgible to be a receiver in a big give project? :confused3
As most of you know my situation, I feel that my oldest 8 year old daughter may be considered special enough. Just a thought, Im not holding out my hand and begging or anything, but know what we go thru on a daily.

She has been diagnosed; ADHD, has high anxiety, ODD, bi-polar, watched for Aspbergers, she is learning disabled, she has propreoceptive and vistubular delays and sensory issues. She also has mild schitzofrenia (spelling ?). All 4 of my daughters are adopted. We got her at 11 months and she was in a bottle, not walking, not talking, and very sick. She had lived in 13 different places (including outside in November in Michigan, shelters, basements, cars, and apartments), she was in her car seat and thrown across a room, witnessed domestic violence, saw her birth parents hem hem "have relations", and been left alone for days at churches and peoples houses.

We got to a counselors once a week, goto rehab every other week, goto a "peer play group" every other week, see a psychologist every month, a case manager comes to our house once a week, and every 6 months she sees a neurologist to track seizures and the aspburgers syndrome (she has not been diagnosed, however they are watching her for this)

Like I said, I truly am not a begger, and I don't expect anything, just curious really what it would take to grab the attention of you lovely ladies (and man) for the big give project. Please forgive me if you feel offended or if you feel that I am in the wrong, this was never my intentions.

 I had no idea she went through all that before you got her. How tragic! I'm so glad she has you in her life now.

As for a "BIG GIVE", right now we're focusing on HeatherN's family and I believe we were going to do another Make A Wish family after that. But, it sounds like you have several people willing to give you a "little give" right now.

I was going to say that fabric matched perfectly!

Confession time: I just made the yummiest (and by that I mean most fatteningly unhealthy) cake. :cloud9: I'm DISing to keep myself from having another piece.
MMMMM.....That cake looked delicious!!! I have an idea, you make the grandbabies's cakes and I'll decorate them!

Hey all, sorry for the fly by, but Heather yelled at me for not posting that I updated my TR, so, I updated my TR yesterday.

things here have been crazy, tryign to dealw ith both parents not having a job. Still trying to figure things out. I am still half done with my big give stuff....I haven't sewed in weeks, so I have been ashamed to even stop by here.

As soon as I get things done, and my life back in order, I'll be back....promise. thank goodness for the new photobucket account, since I haven't read ANYTHING on this whole new thread!
I don't recall yelling at you! :snooty:
I LOVE your trip report! It's one of the best! I'm so glad I went over there and figured out you'd posted about 10 updates since I last checked it.

Please stop by here every once in a while. We miss you!

Hello everyone! I'm new to Dis, and I came across this thread and I'm so amazed!! You are all so talented, have beautiful children and I love how friendly and compassionate everyone is!

I'm so inspired to start sewing now! I am a novice, but have sewn a few things in my life. I hate following patterns and I hate using a sewing machine, so I do everything from my head and with my hands. I want to custom make outfits for both of my daughter's for each day of our upcoming trip. I need to get started right now!! My oldest has been reading some of this thread with me and has put in a few requests! :rotfl:

I can't wait to get started!

Oh and Heather & Teresa, I've been reading your trip reports! I can't believe the experience you had with the photographer! How un-Disney! I think everyone looked beautiful and their outfits were gorgeous!

Gotta hit the hay!
:welcome: It sounds like you're going to fit in here perfectly! But, first you'll have to get over your dislike of sewing by machine! :rotfl2:

I'm so glad you're enjoying our TRs!!!! It makes me feel so good to know that people are reading it!

Since you brought it up,

I UPDATED MY TRIP REPORT this morning!

If you make jewelry, maybe you could make him a boyish necklace!

Not sure I can make a boy necklace. I tend to have more girlie beads and having a boy and knowing my DH if it was our song he would FREAK if he wore a boy necklace. Now don't get me wrong there is nothing wrong with boys wearing necklaces or pink for that matter Bt a beaded one not so sure. Maybe I think this way because of the beads I know I have... Let me think of something and see. At worst case i will wait until I am a better sewer and make something for the next family. let me see what i can think of. :)

I have a friend that is leaving for the beach on Saturday and I have decided at the last minute that I wanted to do something for both of her boys to wear. (She has been a great friend to me lately and I want to do something nice for her in return.)

Since they are going to the beach and there is a pirate ship where they are going, I thought about doing an outfit like the one I did Michael:

skulls.jpg

The only problem I have is I don't have enough of the material to make both boys the shorts -- they are age 3.5 and 9 months. Do you think that the shorts would look alright with a leg of the skulls material and then a solid color for the other? Which color would you use -- black, red or white?

Let me know what you think!!!

I think make one kids black ones and one kid red ones. Either one leg one pattern and the other a solid or even just make one kid red short and have the pirate material as the trim then the other kids the other color with the pirate material as the trim. i am sure anything you make will be great!

This is what I have been up to lately. There were about 6 other things that are at my grandparent's house. I took them to Jenna the other night so she could go ahead and enjoy them.

This is Jenna's Wall-E dress.

They all are great! I personally love the minnie but then again I adore minnie even thought my good friend says she is stringing Mickey along!:rotfl: :rotfl2:

Nikki would LOVE the Hanna Montana outfit! I promised her I would make her something with Hanna Montana so I have to make sure she doesn't see the computer when this outfit is up or she will start begging for it now and mine won't nearly be as pretty!

This may be a little bit tacky, and if I offend anyone I truly am sorry. But what make someone elgible to be a receiver in a big give project? :confused3

OMG you poor little girl has been through so much in her little life! Why are people so mean to little kids. It just breaks my heart so much! I am thrilled that she has found you and your family and now is i a great home wit lots of love!!!!

I finally finished it. It doesn't have a bow because I couldn't decide on black, red, or yellow so I'm going to leave that part up to the buyer

VERY pretty!

I'm not getting along with photobucket AT ALL today! Which sounds like a good excuse for why I haven't updated my TR yet. :rolleyes1
WHAT-EVER!!! :snooty:

I have a special place in my heart for MAW, as my DH's older brother was able to go to Disneyland in 1975 through MAW just weeks before he passed away from Leukemia... He was only five.:( It warms my heart that they had that special day and that his parents have those memories and a place to go back to to enjoy them.
Oh my, what a sad/happy story. to your DH and his family.

I'm first going to say this really quiet, for Elisa:
I updated my trip report

Then, I'm going to say it all loud and obnoxious!! :thumbsup2 I Updated my Trip Report.

It's time for WICKEDNESS!!!!!!

Oh REALLY? Well, it just so happens that
I UPDATED MY TRIP REPORT, too!!

I'm afraid they may kick us off this thread if we keep this up! ;)

ETA: What have you done to your lovely button I made for you? I sized it to be exactly the same height of the picture of you and I and now it's all stretched out and ugly! :snooty:

Hi Everyone,

Im in the middle of making abby (my friends little girl) a birthday outfit like the ones I did for Elizabeth and Hannah. Now, I made the Aline top a size 5, but the shortest length - it looks sooooo small - has anyone done one like this?????? if so, could you please post it? Im so worried it wont fit!!! AHHHHH!!! she is a petite 5 (she is the watermelon outfit girl) but Im still not sure!!!

THanks, Wendy:scared1:

What about adding a ruffle to the bottom or a matching material as trim?

I found yellow Mickey crocs at Marshalls in kids sizes and lime green ones too.

Thanks I need to check mine and I will have my mom hunt them down in Atlanta too. At worst case i will ahve to order them. It is so sad this boy wants them so ad he is even asking for them for his bday! :cool1:He actually has them already but he wears them so much the bottom is flat and his foot is busting out of them. I swear this kid is a trip he is all about yellow and monkeys!

I knew that fabric looked familiar... I just couldn't put my finger on it. After seeing your adorable monkey dress I check Target every time I go... just waiting for the day that shower curtain goes on sale. :rotfl2:
You and me both ! So let me know if you see it on sale and if i do i will let you know.::yes::
I finally finished it. It doesn't have a bow because I couldn't decide on black, red, or yellow so I'm going to leave that part up to the buyer.

minniepetti2.jpg
It came out GREAT!

I saw Yellow Mickey crocs on disney shopping and they are on sale!! In fact all the foot wear is on sale!

Thanks. I just checked there they don't have his size which is the problem I am running into. He just my have to deal with all-e ones. Of course DH thinks he should be in sneakers so he can run better UGH! So i am hunting every where and DH doesn't want to get them UGH! So I guess it is better he wears ones that don't fit UGH MEN!

Ok, I just got to work and will catch up a bit later. I would like to say I am FINALLY starting to feel better.

On to my dilema. I don't like to post too much about the stuff I have listed in the boutique b/c 1. I never know when I'm breaking a rule. and 2. Ya never know whose lurking. I don't want to jeopardize this business relationship. BUT I need some advice.

The owner of the boutique is requesting that the outfits that designers make for her site are "exclusive" to her site and you will not sell them on :wizard: or the other:wizard: or anywhere else. Fair enough. I don't currently sell on those places though I thought I might have to list some stuff on etsy to cover the cost of fabric if I don't get orders. NOW, she is calling them exclusive in their description and for the first time since I started in this endeavor I thought about clothing tags. I e-mailed her and asked if that meant she did not want MY labels in the clothing. I offered that if that was what she was getting at I could make my labels to say that the are exclusive to her site. It would be like a T-Beri Togs special edition, right? I think this is fair. I just got e-mail from her and she says she would rather NOT have any tags in the clothing they will be packaged w/ her hang tag and washing instruction.
Am I being petty and vain that I want my name on the clothing??? Should I just shut my mouth? You know me....I have a hard time knowing when to do that. Not to mention that I think it is pretty unprofessional to have NO tags whatsoever. She has tutu's listed from, i believe, an etsy seller and her name is listed in the description....I'm new and am really feeling my way out here, I have no clue what to expect so I have been walking on eggshells just to get my stuff in her boutique so I kinda don't wanna mess it up. I was nervous about the pieces, nervous about the prices and nervous that the pics weren't good enough.... I just need a little guidance from someone- ANYONE!!!!
HELP ME PLEASE!!!!

TIA

DON'T DO IT!!! You are supplying your items as a designer/manufacturer, therefore, your items have YOUR labels. You can't go into Neiman Marcus or Norstroms and pick up anything that doesn't have a label of some sort. She maybe picking up on you being nervous and is trying to take advantage. Let her know that if she wants "exclusive" items for her shop w/out your tags then the only alternative is for her to purchase labels that say "blah blah blah for blah blah boutique." Otherwise if there aren't labels in your items you are stunting your potential for outside sales/growth.

Here is my $.02

I personally would take "she would rather NOT" as just that. She would rather not, but its your creation and you can do what you want. I think if it was me I would do the tags. You want your name out there to extend your business. She is helping you (by selling) but your also helping her out (giving her outfits to sell). Assure her that the creations will be one of a kind and you will not be selling anywhere else (the ones you give her), but also tell her how you feel and let it be known that you want your name in the website and on the clothes. The worst she can do is say no, right? Good luck, im sure you'll do the right thing for you.

I kind of finished Kyle's shirt. I still have to do the buttons but they terrify me so I may leave it as a shirt/jacket type thing.

I will say for a 1st time making a shirt like this I am impressed especially with ho wI lined up the patterns:woohoo: Not perfect but for a 1st shirt and a 1st time working with a lined/striped type material pattern. I am pretty happy.
IMG_4502.jpg

I do have a question incase I do add buttons. For some reason the button guide doesn't line up right I even tried the smaller size guise. Should I just wing it and do it on my own?
IMG_4503.jpg

Sorry the picture might be hard to see...

If I do add buttons I want to find Mickey buttons.

Now for my 2cent too.

These are your creations put your tags on them. On her website she needs to say they are yrs. She can add exclusive designs for xyz boutique. But not to add tag and not giving you credit isn't cool imo. Also you should be able to sell on other site if you want to but not those designs maybe but then again you can go to Macy;s, Nordstums and other major stores and find the same designers so why shouldn't you be able to put ad sell your stuff else where?

I think your stuff is amazing and as far as the prices they are high but then again most boutique stuff is right and that is why you make your one?!?!?

Good luck with it all!

T-beri - ANOTHER vote for DON'T DO IT! Your designs = your labels. I think you'll be shooting yourself in the foot otherwise.

So, you think it would be easier to line each strip, then sew the (already lined) strips together? Sorrry, it take a lot for me to understand. LOL
This is what I would do because you don't want all those seams exposed. make two skirts and sew them so that the wrong sides end up together. That way you hide all the seams. Do the skirt that is going to be the lining in one color only.

I say your stuff your tags. It sounds to me like she is wanting to take credit for what you are making.

I managed to get pictures and I managed to get the Hello Kitty 4th of July set done, I hadn't planned on doing it all in a day but once I got into it I just kept going. Today I have to make Vegas (Delaney's teddy bear) a new dress for the Teddy Bear Picnic at camp tomorrow. I have her dress cut out and I've started sewing but I've got to go and get Delaney in a few minutes.

Here's the Hello Kitty outfit. I can't believe I did the whole applique, it's not my favorite thing to do but I'm starting to get better...

DSCN2854-1.jpg

Here's the Wall-e outfit. It didn't turn out a thing like I had wanted because the pillow panels were so big the skirt would be dragging on the floor I had to chop them down so far that I'm missing the contrast of the darker fabric around the panels. It works, she likes it, I just wish it was more like I had envisioned it.
DSCN2856-1.jpg

Can you tell I hate to hem? I swear bias tape is my favorite thing these days. Please pardon the chocolate cookie face. I can't believe I was actually able to take a picture in our apartment, it's nice that it's so clean now.

I'll be back on later, it's time to get small people. After Vegas' dress the only thing I have on my plate right now is the dress I need to start for the Lion King show.

Thanks guys. I agree. She knows that I haven't sold my stuff before now so I really didn't know what to expect. I agree that it will stunt my opportunity for outside sales, but I think that's probably her angle. She doesn't want people to see they can get my stuff in other places. BUT frankly. It's not like I have anything that is SO unique or a well known name. But I do think my stuff is cute and well made. The stuff I have up now is pretty basic b/c I needed to get a few outfits to her quickly to have something up...the ones I am working on are a little more involved. I think I will let her know that I would prefer that my name was on my clothing and her site. She hasn't said DON'T sell on other sites, hell her stuff is on other sites w/ the same name as her boutique. She just request we don't sell the exact same items, which I think is fair. But I would like to build some kind of name for myself. I don't think I'll ever be able to quit my day job, but I like making clothes and I'd like to continue doing it.

I guess I've just been afraid that I've put time and money into this and I don't want it to work. Not to mention the emotional investment. This has really been a struggle for me. I don't have the greatest self esteem and don't usually put much faith into myself or what I do. My DH and MIL had to convince me that my clothes are not just average and that I could do this. So there was a lot of emotional turmoil involved as well. So I just didn't want to blow it. But I suppose if it falls through I can just put the fabric or make outfits to put on etsy. Whatever. I think I should stand up for myself.

Thanks for the encouragement.

I do have a question incase I do add buttons. For some reason the button guide doesn't line up right I even tried the smaller size guise. Should I just wing it and do it on my own?

Sorry the picture might be hard to see...

If I do add buttons I want to find Mickey buttons.

Cute!!

Very cute! I like the green trim on the bottom of the skirt, is that the bias tape? (Pardon my novice-ness!!) :goodvibes

To t-beri: I agree with the others that your designs = your labels. I like the idea of having her print labels saying "blah blah blah for blah blah boutique", but I would definitely insist on having my own labels in my own creations.

I want to get started on a dress today, but I'm so nervous!! I have some material, so I think I'm just going to dive into it!

Hopefully I'll get a sewing machine that I love. I need one that is easy to use, I think I don't like them because I'm intimidated by them (and because I hate threading the bobbins and having needles break, etc). My mom always sewed by hand and so does my MIL, so they just rubbed off on me. :rotfl:

Oops, don't have enough enough posts to quote with pictures yet!

That is so cute. I had to resist buying the hello kitty fabric and making her 2 4th outfits!!! Good thing, I got my 4th fabric a month ago intending to beat all of you to it and not only is mine not done but someone else used the same pattern I am using so it is SO gonna look like a case..:rotfl: Someday I'll post something "original" on this thread:laughing:

You did a great job!!!
