I'm so inspired to start sewing now! I am a novice, but have sewn a few things in my life. I hate following patterns and I hate using a sewing machine, so I do everything from my head and with my hands. I want to custom make outfits for both of my daughter's for each day of our upcoming trip. I need to get started right now!! My oldest has been reading some of this thread with me and has put in a few requests! :rotfl:

I can't wait to get started!

Gotta hit the hay!

Glad to have you with us!! I'm having fun sewing for the first time in ages.

BUTTER CAKE: (aka poppyseed cake)

1 yellow cake mix with pudding
1 large pkg. instant vanilla pudding
3Tbsp. poppyseeds
1/2c. oil
1c. water
4 eggs

Mix cake mix, instant pudding, and poppy seeds with spoon. Beat in oil and water. Add eggs. Pour into heavily greased and floured bundt pan. Bake at 350 for 45 minutes.

GLAZE:

1/2 lb. butter :scared1:
1c. sugar
1/4c. water

Bring to a full boil, boil for 2-3 minutes stirring constantly. Pour over hot cake still in pan. Let cool in pan 30-45 minutes before removing (you may have to smack it around a little to get it to fall out of the pan).

I hope I don't lose this receipt! My printer just croaked about 2 minutes ago. Off to Wallyworld for a new one.

Im really glad that you are not flaming me :furious: I never meant to be a beggar , and you took it correctly. Thank you

I don't see anything wrong with asking for a Big Give. I don't see it as begging. Hope it can be worked out for you.

Am I being petty and vain that I want my name on the clothing??? Should I just shut my mouth? You know me....I have a hard time knowing when to do that. Not to mention that I think it is pretty unprofessional to have NO tags whatsoever. She has tutu's listed from, i believe, an etsy seller and her name is listed in the description....I'm new and am really feeling my way out here, I have no clue what to expect so I have been walking on eggshells just to get my stuff in her boutique so I kinda don't wanna mess it up. I was nervous about the pieces, nervous about the prices and nervous that the pics weren't good enough.... I just need a little guidance from someone- ANYONE!!!!
HELP ME PLEASE!!!!

TIA
...t.

Tberi, I say NO also. I work in retail and we have exclusives by Designers. Why can't she just say Tberi designs exclusive to ...... You want people to recognize your designs. Why not come up with some sort of label that would include both your names, so you get her to agree. (I sure wouldn't want her to be saying these were her designs).

I kind of finished Kyle's shirt. I still have to do the buttons but they terrify me so I may leave it as a shirt/jacket type thing.

I will say for a 1st time making a shirt like this I am impressed especially with ho wI lined up the patterns:woohoo: Not perfect but for a 1st shirt and a 1st time working with a lined/striped type material pattern. I am pretty happy.
IMG_4502.jpg

I do have a question incase I do add buttons. For some reason the button guide doesn't line up right I even tried the smaller size guise. Should I just wing it and do it on my own?
IMG_4503.jpg

Sorry the picture might be hard to see...

If I do add buttons I want to find Mickey buttons.

I think this is the cutest fabric. It came out great. If you don't want to do buttons. What about those snaps that you hammer on? You could still put the Mickey buttons over it. I usually use he guide. But you can do what you think is best for fit on your little one.

I managed to get pictures and I managed to get the Hello Kitty 4th of July set done, I hadn't planned on doing it all in a day but once I got into it I just kept going. Today I have to make Vegas (Delaney's teddy bear) a new dress for the Teddy Bear Picnic at camp tomorrow. I have her dress cut out and I've started sewing but I've got to go and get Delaney in a few minutes.

Here's the Hello Kitty outfit. I can't believe I did the whole applique, it's not my favorite thing to do but I'm starting to get better...

Here's the Wall-e outfit. It didn't turn out a thing like I had wanted because the pillow panels were so big the skirt would be dragging on the floor I had to chop them down so far that I'm missing the contrast of the darker fabric around the panels. It works, she likes it, I just wish it was more like I had envisioned it.

Can you tell I hate to hem? I swear bias tape is my favorite thing these days. Please pardon the chocolate cookie face. I can't believe I was actually able to take a picture in our apartment, it's nice that it's so clean now.

I'll be back on later, it's time to get small people. After Vegas' dress the only thing I have on my plate right now is the dress I need to start for the Lion King show.
I like the bias tape at the bottom of the hem. I might have to start CASEing that idea.

that is a good idea. I might also have my mom put the buttons on when she comes to visit next weekend.:hyper:

Tber. Let me clue you in your stuff is wonderful have confidence it is GREAT!

Anyone with an embord. machine-------

Where do you get the cute little applique designs at? I would love to use some!

I have a Belle and Cinderella dress in the works as well as a few others!

OH AND BETH, IF YOU READ THIS, GET ON EARLIER! I am in bed by the time you get one! lol

WOW!!! I LOVE this pirate set, it is amazing. Very clever. The pink baby bedding fabric is great!! I have some valances from target I got on clearance in my fabric stash. The fabric doesn't have a lot of height but I figured it would make great ruffles, it's striped and OH how I love striped ruffles.

Glad to see you around!

T-Beri, another thing I don't too much like about the situation is that she wants hang tags on the clothes you make, but you can't put your name on the craftsmanship inside. That sure sounds to me like she wants her customers to think that the creations are hers (not yours).

I'm not sure if this is the best place to ask this question but my daughter just finished a great sewing camp and wants to sew more. I have a sewing machine in my basement that I am going to look at this afternoon. I sewed from 7th grade through high school so the machine has not been touched in 20+ years.

I am thinking about getting a new one and thought there was a thread or two that discussed machines that people liked or good machines to start with. However, using the search function turned up nothing.

If anyone here could direct me to those threads or provide recommendations that would be great.

Also, the pictures in these threads are fantastic - you are all very creative.

Okay I have a ? I am sitting here working on a maire outfit and I have looked and looked for pictures of the cat to see what color her belly is. some show it as white, some shoe it as brown. I did it in brown already because that is what the designs said to use but now I know it is white. Do you think to leave it as brown would look stupid?

can you show us a photo.

Ok, I just got to work and will catch up a bit later. I would like to say I am FINALLY starting to feel better.

On to my dilema. I don't like to post too much about the stuff I have listed in the boutique b/c 1. I never know when I'm breaking a rule. and 2. Ya never know whose lurking. I don't want to jeopardize this business relationship. BUT I need some advice.

The owner of the boutique is requesting that the outfits that designers make for her site are "exclusive" to her site and you will not sell them on :wizard: or the other:wizard: or anywhere else. Fair enough. I don't currently sell on those places though I thought I might have to list some stuff on etsy to cover the cost of fabric if I don't get orders. NOW, she is calling them exclusive in their description and for the first time since I started in this endeavor I thought about clothing tags. I e-mailed her and asked if that meant she did not want MY labels in the clothing. I offered that if that was what she was getting at I could make my labels to say that the are exclusive to her site. It would be like a T-Beri Togs special edition, right? I think this is fair. I just got e-mail from her and she says she would rather NOT have any tags in the clothing they will be packaged w/ her hang tag and washing instruction.
Am I being petty and vain that I want my name on the clothing??? Should I just shut my mouth? You know me....I have a hard time knowing when to do that. Not to mention that I think it is pretty unprofessional to have NO tags whatsoever. This is a tough one because I feel you definately deserve credit for YOUR beautiful work and it sounds as if she almost wants to take credit for it. But my dilemma would be, how bad do you want to sell for this boutique (and if it were me I am sure my answer would be I REALLY wanted to) so for the time being I would probably let it go and see how things go for you. See if you get alot of business from it or what not. IF you get alot then you can go to her and be like listen I am selling x amount of $ and want represented. Since I assume she is making money off you (not sure how it all is exactly handled) she probably at that point wouldn't want to lose you. I do feel by all means though YOU deserve credit and should have a tag. I think sometimes we just have to take what we can get for now.

T-Beri, another thing I don't too much like about the situation is that she wants hang tags on the clothes you make, but you can't put your name on the craftsmanship inside. That sure sounds to me like she wants her customers to think that the creations are hers (not yours).

I think a brother machine from walmart (or costco) is a great start machine. They run from about $100-200. I would go with one that had a decent amount of stitches and computerized. I think I paid $169 for my newest one.

DON'T DO IT!!! You are supplying your items as a designer/manufacturer, therefore, your items have YOUR labels. You can't go into Neiman Marcus or Norstroms and pick up anything that doesn't have a label of some sort. She maybe picking up on you being nervous and is trying to take advantage. Let her know that if she wants "exclusive" items for her shop w/out your tags then the only alternative is for her to purchase labels that say "blah blah blah for blah blah boutique." Otherwise if there aren't labels in your items you are stunting your potential for outside sales/growth.

Here is my $.02

I personally would take "she would rather NOT" as just that. She would rather not, but its your creation and you can do what you want. I think if it was me I would do the tags. You want your name out there to extend your business. She is helping you (by selling) but your also helping her out (giving her outfits to sell). Assure her that the creations will be one of a kind and you will not be selling anywhere else (the ones you give her), but also tell her how you feel and let it be known that you want your name in the website and on the clothes. The worst she can do is say no, right? Good luck, im sure you'll do the right thing for you.

T - I agree with the above posts but I think you've already resolved it for yourself! I probably wouldn't sell "copies" of what you are selling on her site elsewhere but I don't think you should have to limit yourself to where you sell. Your clothes are beautiful! Have confidence in yourself, you can do it!

I'm not sure if this is the best place to ask this question but my daughter just finished a great sewing camp and wants to sew more. I have a sewing machine in my basement that I am going to look at this afternoon. I sewed from 7th grade through high school so the machine has not been touched in 20+ years.

I think a lot of us like the Brother sewing machine that you can get at Wal-Mart or a very similar version at Costco. They run about $189 but I think Wal-Mart has had it on sale for about $80 recently. I think it is a Brother C6000. It is computerized (very basic computerized, really just the stitches) and sews fantastically. Good luck!

Oh crud, I forgot to add this in my previous post!

Dilated to 5 cm!!!

This is what happened with Claire too. I dilate and still end up being induced. But now I kind of feel like I am far enough dilated that I really don't want to go into labor and that I would rather just be induced since I don't want to have an accidental home or car birth! The hospital is about 30 minutes away with no traffic but on a busy day could take an hour. Luckily my doctor is on call the whole weekend if I do go into labor though. Also, I want to take the girls to see Wall-E tomorrow or this weekend and I'm supposed to get my hair cut, and all of the other last minute stuff I want to get done! So here is to hoping that this baby just stays put!

Singer and Brother both have basic machines. I would recommend one of those. You can get them for a good price at Wal-Mart.

OKay here are a few pictures. I am using the white fabric with a piknk and white dotty fabric for the strip work on a jumper dress and then the matching jeans will have Marie, Some Paw prints, the tower things ect.... on them. I can not believe i did not pay enough attention to this whiel it was embord. I guess that is what i get for Multi-tasking! lol

I unhooped the design already so there is no way to get it perfect again to have it back in the same spot!

I still need to trim the threads so do not mind the strings on Marie! lol, so How bad does it look and any ideas on how I can fix it?

Okay Utah mommies...

Tell me about the Salt Lake/Provo area. DH just got called by a recruiter for a job out there. I haven't said no yet... definitely different from the idea of moving to Florida. I'm not sure I'm keen on the idea of being landlocked but I told him to go ahead and give them what they are asking for and we'll see what they have to say in return.

it is a cute marie, but I would probabally use white or pink for the belly. Sorry if this makes you undo it and start over, just trying to be honest. It is still cute even with the brown belly though.

Ok I am not in Utah but i have had to think long and hard about moving cross county twice so far. When we moved from NJ to Atlanta for us it was a no brainer we were young and there was no way we could afford a house in Nj but in Atlanta we could and then the fact tat my parents were there already. Then about 10yrs later we got an offer for him to take a job in Chicago. By that tie I was a stay at home mom with 2 small kids. I loved Atlanta but money was hard and there was always the chance I would have to go back to work. All i ever wanted to do was be a stay at home mom. So for me going back to work was not a fun idea. Any way DH went on the interview as we researched areas we might want to live in in Chicago. Demographics/housing schools etc. We knew the weather would suck we grew up in Nj and I always HATED I mean HATED the winters. Any way The company made DH an offer he couldn't refuse career and money wise. So we went for it. I will say i miss Atlanta SO much that is home to me. I always looked at it as we could always move back. Well it isn't that easy. i wish it was. During the sumer months I love it here but in the winter man I go into a deep depression from lack of sun and cold! So much so I have to go on medication to help me get through it. That is just me but as soon as it gets nice out i am off it in a heart beat and happier then ever. I am such a tank top and flip flop girl! Any way I say maybe have your DH look into it and see what this company has to offer and if it is his dream job or a good chance for a better life for you and your family then it might be worth it. I don't regret the move her because i know at the time the choice we made was the right one but I can tell you it doesn't feel like home. So when the time is right hopefully we will end up back down south but if not i will be longing for summers and thankfully DH wants to start going t WDW in the winter to help break up the winter for us. Good luck to you!

Just for you karebear! see all that buttery sugary goodness soaked into the sides?

Hello everyone! I'm new to Dis, and I came across this thread and I'm so amazed!! You are all so talented, have beautiful children and I love how friendly and compassionate everyone is!

Welcome! Can't wait to see what you come up with!

I finally finished it. It doesn't have a bow because I couldn't decide on black, red, or yellow so I'm going to leave that part up to the buyer.

Those outfits are great! I know what you mean about an outfit not looking like what you envisioned. I've had a lot of that lately and I hope I don't let it discourage me. I think your Wall*E looks great!

I think I should stand up for myself.
:thumbsup2 Yes you should!!!!!!
