SUPER cute!!! My step son would go crazy for that! It turned out great!!
Thanks! He wore it today and it looks really great on-looks very comfy!:thumbsup2

Thanks for the Father's day wishes!

Everyone's newest stuff is terrific!

I told DW and Leighanna that the only power tool I wanted for Father's Day and my birthday was a sidewinder! :rotfl: Pretty pathetic, huh?
But I have just about every other thing I need. I can only have so many screwdriver sets can't I?;)

Have a great day everyone!
Happy Father's Day and Happy Birthday Tom! Did you get a sidewinder? I bought in April and couldn't get it to work. I tried to exchange it but they were out of stock and I figured I could probably live without it. I'd love to hear what you think of it.

For a size 4-5, the most fabric you would need is 1 1/8 yards for the main fabric, plus 7/8 yards for the lining.

For a size 2, the most fabric you would need is 3/4 yard, plus 1/2 yard for the lining.

This is if you're making a solid shirt without contrast. But, I'd get these amounts even if you're not making it solid, just to be sure you have enough.

Then, you'll need contrasting fabric for whatever parts you're going to want to make contrast (the placket, the collar, stripes, sleeves)
It looks like you'd be good buying a yard of contrasting fabric for the 4/5 and 1/2 yard for the 2.
I agree. Its nice to have enough extra for stategic pattern layout if your fabric has a pattern.

This turned out really great!!! Carla said that the book should be available this next week.
Thanks!

So I had seen this fabric at Joann's and loved it but thought "I have sooo much and I am unsure of what I would do." So like a fool on a budget I passed it up. Then I saw this and loved it and thought I have to get some, rushed there this am and GONE!!! :( WHAT HAVE I DONE??? Well DH and I are going to Tampa to see a Cubs game this week so while we are about I will have to detour to the nearest Joann's and take a looksee. Then next weekend we are headed to Miami for a track meet so if I don't find it I will have to look there. Man I am so disappointed. They are opening a new one here in Viera but I don't know when. I did however see the shirred Minnie purple material for dresses or tops there today:) So we have it in stock here if some one was still looking for it.
:wizard: Goodluck on your whale hunt!

Hey, it looks great! Aren't you glad I helped you with it? :rotfl: Well, I am here for support even if I am no help whatsoever.
Thanks! And thanks again for your help!!! It is nice to hear what others think. I've got a friend at work who doesn't sew but has a great eye for color (she makes beautiful cards). She was on a business trip when I was making my shirt so it was nice to have some help here. She's helped me pick out fabric for my Mickey Mouse Clubhouse storybook skirt and a dress for my older DD.

sick:sick: today only worked on this baby outfit

That is so cute! Love the kite fabric! :wizard: Hope you're feeling better soon!

Here is my Father's Day project!!! I wish I had realized that the dots weren't going to line up in the back...but oh well! Please, please, please don't anyone get upset thinking this was CASEd. Yes, I understand there are plenty of Minnie Dot dresses on here. But I did not intentionally CASE anyone. I promise.

Seriously, the more dresses I make, the more excited I get for our trip!!!! I've been amusing myself reading Heather/Theresa's trip report. Excellent job so far ladies. Only problem is my DD is questioning why I didn't make her THOSE dresses (especially the Giselle one). Try explaining to a 4 year old that you really aren't up to that level :rotfl2:
Cute! You've got a few months before your trip. You'll be up for Giselle by then!

Hi Everyone,

I was wondering - how do you guys store your patterns that you print out and cut out?

Thanks, Wendy
I put my YCMT pattern instructions and pieces (that I fold) into Staples binder pockets. http://www.staples.com/office/suppl...ness_Supplies_0_10051_FEATURED:SC1:CG2:DP1480

Hey guys!
I finished the outfit Iwas working on. I took revrob's suggestion and did one leg of each. I had just enough dog bone fabric left for one leg.

I think it came out pretty cute. I skipped the appliques b/c I thought it would be too busy.

BTW these pictures were taken with my New Camera!   I had the old one since before DD was born so it was time for an upgrade!
Super cute! LOVE the different legs!!! Nice photos too!

I started my DD8 sewing simple things with my help. She wants a Hannah Montana Bday this year and our local Walmart has the cotton fabric still. So I thought we could make something for all the girls at the party together. Does anyone have any ideas besides a tote bag? I thought about a pillowcase as it will be a sleepover, but at $4 a yard, that is more than I wanted to spend. I love planning the party and doing fun original stuff, so I'm open to almost anything.
I don't know what the fabric looks like but what about headbands?

Good evening!

I need to catch up but before I do I ahve a question fro you talented ladies.

My 1st fully home made dress is ALMOST done! YIPPEE! The last thing that needs to be done is put the zipper in. I ahve never done that before so are there any tricks I should be aware of?

I would really ahte to screw it up in the LAST step!

Off to catch up!

We're back!!
It's a girl!!
On Tuesday June 10th we welcomed little
:cloud9: Adara Hazel Antonina :cloud9:
into the world and our family.
She was 7lbs 3oz and 20 1/4 inches long.
She is precious and perfect and we are settling in at home.
I'll work on getting a photo up. I doubt I'll get caught up on the last 30 pages
of this thread though! You've all been busy!

Congratulations!!!
My friend also had a baby Tuesday. Must have been a good day for babies:) My Best wishes to you and your family!

Hope you feel better, that outfit is adorable!

That looks great! Don't worry, you will up to a Giselle dress in no time!

Hi Everyone,

Um, right now they are in a pile under a chair in the corner of the dining room (my sewing room). I think what I would like is to put them in gallon ziploc bags and label them with a sharpie. They are such a mess right now and everything is jumbled together I can never find the pieces I need.

That is too stinkin cute! I love the legs! Congrats on the new camera too.

I was going to say headbands or scrunchies, but I was too slow. Or maybe dresses for dolls?

If you go to the youcanmakethis website there are little video tutorials and there is one for how to do a zipper. I watched it and learned something new.

I just learned to put in zippers and the biggest trick that helped me was to baste it in firs with right sides together on the very edge of the zipper tape and then fold it over to get the fold of fabric that goes over the tape and overlaps the teeth just right. I did one side and the unzipped ad did the same for the other side. Do you have a zipper foot? If so i highly recommend using it.

Ok, so I made a pre-shirred ariel dress and a pre-shirred princess dress this weekend.(can't post pics cause I forgot to take them before I sent the dresses home with the two 'princesses' they belong to.) Those were even easier than pillowcase dresses. I'm ready to jump into YCMT patterns I think...Can anyone suggest an easy one or should I just pick the one I want to make and dive in?

I haven't done a zipper in like 20 years but if I were doing one I would use the double sided Wonder Tape. It washes out when you wash the dress.

I would say just dive in but of the 2 dresses that I've done I found the A-line to be easier and quicker than the Simply Sweet Dress. And I do like the simple, clean lines of the A-line.

I love it! I'm still trying to figure out what style of Minnie Dot dress to make Lily for our trip in October. Can you believe that girl still does not have a Minnie Dot dress??? :scared1: Yours looks great!

My DD had a "pajama party" when she turned 5 or 6 and I used some Barbie flannel and made each girl a pillow. I think they were something like 14" square and I used several different lace/eyelet trims around the edges (like the inexpensive lace you can get at Joanns in the dollar section rolled up inside a clear plastic ball). The kids LOVED them! Jayden still uses hers and that was a long time ago! She is almost 11 :worried:

ETA: You can also use a less expensive solid for one side of the pillow. I just stuffed them with batting.

Thank you. This one was easy to make. Well, I mean it would have been easy for someone who is a seasoned sewer! For me, it took like 3 hours (it took me forever to figure out the lined bodice part...I just couldn't envision how it was going to come out right!) Now that I know to trust the pattern, the next one should go a lot quicker.

That is a cute take on Snow White. I'll bet she was comfy. Jenna likes your pictures too.

I honestly think that all of them are pretty easy.

OH, I forgot to mention, now that I have washed Luke's "Carla bowling shirt" I am sooo happy that it is lined. It just has a really nice feel too it and it did not wrinkle much in the wash. I was feeling lazy about the lining before, (that probably only makes sense to me :confused3 ) but now I love it. The whole shirt just feels like a much nicer quality than the other button up shirt I made Luke. :cool1: Love ya Carla!

I love the simply sweet dress, portrait pesant, and easy fit pants. I also like the aline. can you tell I'm a Carla C addict?? Seriously these are the easiest to understand patterns i have ever used and I think that the clothing cones out much more finished and professional looking than commercial patterns. It bothers me when bodices have facings instead of linings ect. If you are listening Carla, keep em coming!!

Commercial patterns are a big part of the reason I haven't sewn more before this. I had to have DMIL reassure me that I was doing it right because the patterns didn't make sense...and since she now lives several states away, that was a challenge! Thanks everyone for making me feel like I can dive right in!

For those that have been to 1900 Park Fair - I'm trying to decide if I should do a Mary Poppins theme custom, or Alice in Wonderland theme. Which one is going to make for better pictures?

The dress is adorable!!!! You did a great job!

I'm so glad you are enjoying our trip reports!!! And, I'm especially pleased that your daughter liked the Giselle dress!!! That one might not have been so bad if I didn't have to make the pattern myself. There are so many steps to it, it takes awhile to do. I was tired of looking at the whole thing by the time I was done! The second one went a little smoother though!

Anyone have any ideas for a snow white dress/outfit? DD's favorite princess is Snow White. She dressed up as Snow White last year but I'd rather not do the regular costume again.

Tom made a really pretty one, it was with pastels. I just loved it! Cindee made one for the Big give that is adorable too. I just checked the Photobucket account and I don't see either one in there though. :(

You could make the band of the pillowcase in HM fabric and the rest in a cheaper fabric.

If I were going to 1900 Park Fair, I would do a Mary Poppin's theme-maybe something with carousel horses?

Which meal are you going for? The reason I ask-we went for Breakfast-MP was only in the hallway and Alice and Mad Hatter were in the dining area with the Pooh characters. I don't know if they do all the meals that way. But I got better pictures of MP than of the Alice characters. (And if you make a MP you can make one a little bigger for Morgan, since I have not yet made her a MP -bought the fabric LOL) :lmao: :lmao:

I'm intrigued! Do you own a consignment store? What is the online ticketing?

Have fun at your parents!

There is a group of ladies in my town who started a consignment sale, it gets bigger every time, it's three times a year, the spring and the back to school sales are the biggest. They started having everyone ticket with their online program last sale which makes things a lot easier.

Delaney has so many clothes and stuff that I've been trying to thin out the stuff we have, even if we have another baby there were things we'd do differently, like Delaney hated her bouncy seat because it was too loud so we'll get rid of it and get a different more calming one the next time.

I work the sale because it gets me in earlier and I make a little money so I usually end up even with what I spend and what I sell.

If you're doing dinner there it's Cinderella, Prince Charming, Lady Tramaine, Drizella, and Anastasia. We had Delaney's birthday dinner there. It was fabulous! I wish I hadn't been so full, I'd have eaten more there, the buffet was actually pretty good.

Congrats on your free dining. I'm starting to talk out our trip to Disneyland with DH. I haven't been in a lot of years, in fact, there was no California Adventure the last time I was out there and it wasn't even in the works.

That is because Cindee had all that trouble with her computer (when someone "fixed" it :badpc: and has never set up a new account:bitelip: )
