Hi everyone,
I've been "window shopping" for a while and would like to join in. My name is Laura and I have 3 great kids for whom I have started sewing. I've been making a few things from CarlaC but can't get her raglin top to work for my kids. It is too small. Has anyone had any luck with the patterns from Favorite Things patterns. I really want to try their hoodie jacket but can't make sense of the simplicity pattern that I bought. I really need to be walked thru the pattern like the patterns on youcanmakethis.com. Will the Favorite things pattern work for a beginner? Are there any other places to go for a hoodie jacket pattern? Thanks so much!

I have debated on whether or not I could contribute to the MAW Big give, but I don't think I could make the deadline. (Jeesh, I have about 5 other waiting things to do on my mental checklist that I can't even get done! )

My Mom has been in the Hospital for almost three weeks now, and almost any spare time I have has been spent with her.
I did put the clickable link in my signature though.
I think this is such a great thing to do!:)

Just want you to know I'll be praying for your mom! Hope she is on the mend real soon.

I know the deadline for shipping is really quick on this Big Give Round. I just couldn't leave this family out. I'm hoping that enough of us will be able to come up with even a few things to send.

I've never heard of favorite things... now you've got me intrigued. I'm off to google...

I'M GOING TO MEET JEANNE!!!! (I hope)

I am so honored that you are planning a trip to WDW JUST so you can meet us. :cloud9: :lmao:

We'll be there from February 3-10. Jeanne's dates are a little later, but we'll overlap a bit!

Aww...of COURSE we just go to Florida to see Jord! I just didn't want to hurt Disney World's feelings!
[/QUOTE]

I am so tempted to just up and go to Disney by myself (for the weekend) and meet all of you....Jord, Heather, Jeanne....I tried to look up a room on the Disney website but I got a no go...they haven't posted 2009 yet.....how did you ladies book a room then??? :confused3

I just wanted to stop in and say THANK YOU. Because of you, you are making our future wish trippers trips even more special. You are wonderful, giving people.

Hope your moms gets to feeling better soon! You're a good guy making sure she's alright!!
Thanks! I know that most of the time she didn't even know I was there, but I didn't want her to wake up, and not know exactily where she was. The hospital is about 1 1/2 hours away, so between work, and the hospital, I feel like I have lived on the road.

Mom had congestive heart failure and some TIAs (mini strokes). She has lost her ability to swallow and speak clearly, but I can still understand her at times. She had a PEG tube put in today, so at least she can get some nourishment. Won't go into all the details, but we thought that we were going to lose her a few times. She is doing a little better, but she still has her moments.

Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers. I really appreciate them all!

I am not sure about Favorite Things but I have found CarlaC's patterns to be very beginner-friendly. I think working with knit is harder than plain cotton, so maybe you should try a jumper or the peasant top just to get some experience under your belt before trying knit?

I would also recommend the Simplicity Simply the best book for sewing. It will teach you all the pattern jargon that is very overwhelming to a newbie. Please let us know what we can do to help!

YES! DO IT! I am sadly off site, but hey, I'll be there! :cheer2: Heather probably hasn't booked her room yet. They'll probably come out with the 2009 rates soonish. I remember waiting for that to happen last year! It might've been August though.

My grandmother had those mini-strokes and they are nasty. Whenever we went to see her she would cry and it would be very confusing for Jacob. I know it is hard for you, but she does feel you there, I am sure of it. I hope she continues to do better.

Hi everyone. I have been MIA for a while now. After my Disney trip in April, the month of May was crazy. I have not sewed one bit since then. My life has been turned upside down. My father unexpectedly passed away May 24 while my parents were vacationing in Cancun. :sad1: It was horrible. It still is horrible. We are a close family, and I miss him horribly. He had a heart attack while snorkling. It was a mess getting him home, but we are slowly healing with God's help.

I tried to catch up, but it is nearly impossible, and I give up. :goodvibes I hope you guys will remember my family in your prayers. My mother is having a horrible time, and I wish I could give her comfort, but I have no words other than the comfort of him being with God. Of course, that is a biggie, but it doesn't heal the hurt immediately.

I know I am rambling, but I have missed you guys, and all of you are so nice, I know that you will remember my family. I hope to get back in the swing of things soon, but I have been in such shock, I don't know my right from my left.

I hope all of you are doing well, and on a positive note, I may have talked my mom into a Thanksgiving Disney trip to take her mind off of things.:yay:

Whew! You folks are tough to keep up with, both sewing and posting! :goodvibes

Anyway, here are a few bags that I have made, forgive me that they aren't Disney. :rotfl:

Another one

You all really have inspired me to get back to sewing, the machine is out and threaded. I pulled out a few dresses that I had cut out and just not put together. Of course, they were supposed to be for our trip last February, but oh well. Better late than never, right? :thumbsup2

I meant to ask, where is everyone getting their pettis from and how long is it taking them to come in?

Thanks! We've only got one petti and someone (Delaney) thinks we need a few more, she has a list of color.

Mine are at about 4 wks right now.

the paisley is my bedspread, but I think ikea sold the print as fabric as well

OMG....I soooo loved that fabric. When it came out we went all the way to Houston so I could get it. They had run out of the pink colorway so I had to get the white but I also got the other prints from the line. As you can see, I REALLYYYYY loved it,lol. These are from a few years ago.

Anyone know why I resized these on photobucket and rotated them, but they don't appear that way in my post? Is this a wait until tomorrow thing? :)

*Nevermind, I figured it out...

I definitely need a book to tackle a traditional tissue paper pattern! I love CarlaC's patterns. I've been making her pants with great results. My girls are swimmers so I've been buying beach towels and turning them into pants for them to wear to meets and to and from practice. I tried her raglan pattern to make a top out of towels and it just didn't work. I'm determined to make them tops to go with their towel pants but just haven't figured how to do it. After I master the towels, I am going to work on our clothes for our trip to Disney Land.:lovestruc

Tom, I'm sorry to hear about your Mom. I bet that she could feel you there though and maybe that's whats helping her to get better.

Tiffani, I'm sorry about your Dad, I'm sure it's still very painful for y'all during this time of adjustment. That would be awesome if you take your Mom to Disney, a wonderful family trip.

I would have to see which is less expensive,,,,staying onsite or offsite (with a car). It would probably be Thurs to Sun (Feb 5-9th if I did go) I would have to get a really good price on airfare...and stay at POP maybe??? I wonder if I could really go???? I think I am dreamin :cloud9:

Through JORD of course, didn't you know JORD KNOWS people? LOL

(I'm kidding, I need to go to bed:lmao: )

Now that I think about it, Jord does have an "auntie" that works in Disney Reservations. And an "uncle" with the Vacation Club. hmmmm

Oh my, I am so sorry! I will be praying. My father passed away suddenly 2 1/2 years ago, we were on the disney cruise (not him) but got back and told to hurry up to Ohio, he thankfully made it until I got there. I know how hard it is and will say extra prayers for you and your family too!

Mine are at about 4 wks right now.

How cute! I thought about looking online real quick for some but better not spend any more $ today!

Oh my! I have seen some of these pants and loved them! Can you share with us?

Just for fun I looked it up but put in first week of Dec instead of Feb. Pop for 3 nights with MYW + Dining was only $609. Then there would be the flight. Hmmmmmmmm;)

Wait a sec...is Feb 7/8th the Superbowl??????

Sounds scary. I'm so sorry you are having to go through this. I hope your mom is feeling better soon. You'll be in my prayers.
