Good luck with it...Just read the manual first..:lmao:
I'm jealous..I've had my eye on a new one, but I don't get to sew as much as I used to, so now I can't see spending the money. :worried:

here's something I made today:

My MIL was in town today from Alabama so she took us to JoAnn's. She is all the time picking up fabric at Wal-Mart that she thinks is cute and giving it to me (my kids Great Grandmother does this as well) but she decided today that she wasn't going to buy the kids clothes anymore at stores, she is just going to let them pick out fabric (with our help) and buy it for me to make them clothes. I realized today that I haven't bought any clothes this summer other than t-shirts used for appliques, everthing has been made.

Anyways, here is what the kids picked out.

Michael is going to get shorts made with the two dog fabrics and co-ordinating solid colors. They both will get a 4th of July outfit (better get started on those asap!) and then the bottom 3 fabrics are for Parker and myself. I think I'm going to make her a stripwork jumper with them and then make myself a skirt to match. Parker and my MIL both wanted me to make them mother/daughter matching outfits. Lets hope I don't look too fruity with the fruits all over my rump.
What great fabrics. I love the fruity one!

Hi all! I haven't been around much except to lurk since December when we got back from our first family trip to the World with our DD4. My DH surprised me yesterday when he told me that he'd have some time off in July and was thinking he'd like to go back to WDW!!! :cool1: YEAH for us but can I do 5 days of outfits in two weeks!! I think I might just have to "recycle" some parts of the last outfits...you don't think Cinderella would think that was tacky do you?!!! :rotfl:Send some quick sewing skills this way!
How exciting! I plan on recycling all 4 outfits I made for my DD for our May trip when we go in August. :wizard: Have fun getting ready for your trip! I'd be packing already at 2 weeks out.;)

Hey I know that apple fabric! I just made an apron from it. I used is as a bribe and called it the "Early Bird Special". If you came to the meeting early or at least before 7pm , when the meeting was to begin, you could put your name in the hat for the drawing for the Early Bird Special. The ladies really liked it- and EVERYONE was on time!!

IMG_5697.jpg
Love that apron!

It a meeting we have for the women at church every three months. It's called "Enrichment Meeting". I head up a committee that plans and organizes it each time. Our last one was a couple of weeks ago. The theme was "Summer Fun". We had lined up a guest speaker- a friend of mine that wrote and published a book about our American Presidents form the beginning and their hopes a dreams for the country. The name of the book is "Fellow Citizens". We had a nice dinner - a guy from our church that is a professional chef bbq sometime pork tenderloin (YUMMO!) and the ladies brought dishes to accompany that. Then we split off into 3 classes. "Every Heart Beats True"- was a flag table runner that I designed- turned out kinda cute, "The Lost Art of Picnicking"- all about picnics, food safety, recipes etc.- and the 3rd was 'Mom- I'm bored!". This class was about places to take your family to in our local area- and the 2nd part (that I taught) was about things you can do at home with your kids. I put together this cute handout with about 30 recipes for stuff you can make at home with your kids like bubbles, flubber, silly putty, peanut butter play dough, regular play dough etc.

It's a lot of work, but I really enjoy doing it- and now that I have the coveted CRICUT EXPRESSION (yeah me!!) it's made it much easier. Decorations are a breeze and everyone really appreciates the work you put into it. Oh............ and speaking of the Cricut... I have 4 (yes- count them) FOUR Disney cartridges that have character die cuts and the Disney Font for letters! Makes great stuff for autograph books, scrapbooking etc. Maybe I'll put some together and post them- have you seen them yet??
What a fun night!!!!

QUESTION AGAIN!

How important is it to have a rotary cutter and mat? I really want one but they are $$. Are they imperative or just a nice luxury? I know they will make the lines much straighter but will it really improve the actual sewing look?
Since I am still rather new at this my material supply is so limited and when I look at the prices of the mats and cutters I just keep thinking man that can buy a lot of material!
I really like the rotary cutter for stuff like strip work skirts, patchwork skirts, crayon roll ups, ect....My SIL gave me one about 20 years ago with a small cutter, small mat and really nice ruler. When JoAnn's had a 50% off sale I bought a big mat and then at the next sale I bought a larger cutter. I agree with Theresa the mat does stink!!!

Here is the beginning of my latest. It's cut out to be a halter top, but you never know....
I'm still having trouble with faces...faces and fingers...I don't know what it is...oh well. I like it. I think you can tell who they are...:lmao: since this was my only day off, I don't know when I will get to finish it..Hopefully this week.

COOL! When is the fair? Good luck!:wizard:

To them...no big deal...but I just learned how to make a ruffle!!!!! I am so excited...i have always been so scard of that thing...but now...:cool1: Oh what the heck...in my book that deserves:banana:

I'm going to be making some for Caleb's preschool teachers for his last day.

Me and Jenna just got back from the Movie Theater and we did not get to see Wall-E. All of the showings were sold out already. We ended up seeing Kung Fu Panda instead and we loved it. That movie is really funny. :lmao: Everybody was laughing out loud the whole time. The message was really good too.

I promised Jenna that we would see Wall-E in two weeks after everybody else has seen it. :lmao:

Hi! :yay: Here is one of two 4th of July outfits for the girls to wear to the fireworks and carnival we have near our home. DD4 requested a long (to her ankles) dress....yikes....and she got it....does it look ok soooo long??? Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that its a combination 4th of July/Ragedy Ann and Andy outfit from one of those make-a-books. So its sort of red, white and blue too! ;)

so cute!

I just wanted to pop in and say Hi. I have a cute little size 2 Nepali chupa robe from Folkwear Patterns completed with plans to make another- but out of linen type blue fabric with embroidered beach umbrellas and lined in organic terry.

Does anyone know if Joanns sells french terry? Back in the early 70z my Mom bought about 8yards, just cut into a few strips, sewed and put some pom-pom fringe on it- here it is 2008 and it's still everybody's favorite beach blanket, so I thought I would do the same- but the organic at my sewing store was too expensive to buy enough for a beach blanket ($22 pr yard and 50" wide)

I also am finishing up pinwheel blocks out of a Laurel Burch fabric-I bought it pre-cut. I just have to decide how I will sew the blocks together. The "pinwheel" part is complete and I just have to add corners to make them blocks (versus circles)

I hope everyone is doing great- I dont think I'll ever catch up but I plan to go back and read past pages.

Oooh- just saw a few pages back my shirt for my husband was CASEd for a little boy- how cool!!!!

Wow! The board is MESSED UP! There's at least 2 quotes on this page that came before the post. WEIRD! I sure hope they get it fixed.

We went to see Wall-E today too. I'm glad we saw it. We probably won't choose to own it on DVD. My DH said after it was over "I really like the message at the end - all the fat people save the earth!" It was hysterical coming from one fat person, to another fat person! Anyway, it was different. Not what we are used to in a Disney movie. But we're glad we went.

Ok, here it is, my dress-shirt! :rotfl:

I worked all day on this and like I said in my previous post, I'm now going to follow patterns and my mom is giving me her sewing machine, woo hoo!

IMG_5987.jpg

IMG_5988.jpg

I used the green trim because it was all I could find! It came out too short for a dress, so it's now a shirt! :)

I went to the store today and bought 2 patterns and some material, I'm going to work on those this coming week.

It was so overwhelming today looking at materials, I didn't know where to start! So I bought enough to make each of my girls an outfit and have some left over to start a stash.

I'm going to be making some for Caleb's preschool teachers for his last day.

In the cake decorating world, these are commonly known as "cake balls". For the more suave decorators they are referred to as "cake truffles". lol... They are really delicious, so if you make them, be prepared to pack on the pounds:rotfl2: You can substitute tons of flavors to get them just right. You also don't have to use frosting to bind the cake into balls, You can use jams, nutella, peanut butter... really anything for the flavor combo you want.
Anyways, these are adorable!

Mmmmmmmm. . . Nutella. I seriously LOVE nutella. I will NOT be making these with Nutella, however, because DH doesn't like it and that would mean I would eat them all! I'm already on the fluffy side - I certainly do not need a whole batch of Nutella cake balls adding to the fluffiness! Or maybe I could just buy a big girl pettiskirt and wear it at all times - then no one would know if it was my fluff or the petti's fluff! :rotfl2:

Seriously Michelle! You are quite talented to be able to "mindread quotes" before they are even made :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :lmao: You quoted my post before I even posted it...amazing! :wizard:

JK...thanks very much!

Castle...love those stepsisters and I can't wait to see the finished masterpiece!

Cheeseball...very cute dress and DD....whoo hooo :cool1: on the new machine .... see....your addicted now just like the rest of us!

Glad to hear about the Wall E movie....I actually have a GNO planned for the second week of July (girls night out). Maybe we can see it then??

Very cute Wall E outfits too! Course I won't be wearing one myself....;)
