Hah, hah, play on words, but I do have a pixie dust request. My internship ends in just over 2 weeks. I was unable to extend due to the fact that I did the CP in January and one can't be here for longer than 1 year on internships. Please send opportunity pixies my way as there are precious few, so I could use all the booster packs of pixies I can get!

Oh best of luck - I assume you are hoping on getting hired in full time in some capacity?

Keep us updated.

Sending Pixie thoughts a hundred times over again!

:tinker::tinker::tinker::tinker::tinker::tinker:

I am hoping to have the exact same path as you beginning this January!!!

Like the above poster said...keep us updated!!!

Pixies work! I just accepted a part time STATUSED Duty Manager role!!! I'm SO excited and can hardly breathe. Part time isn't ideal, of course, but for right now in my life, it's a very good thing. There is hope and as the economy springs back, I'm sure there will be more opportunities! Just make sure you give it your all and SHINE!!!

That is great news -- I think things will be picking up soon.

From CP to PI to Duty Manager in a year. That might very well be one of the quickest career progressions in the history of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, lol. Most people spend some time as a regular (R)GSM before they even think about the Duty Manager role.

Anyway, congratulations! Do you know where you'll be?

That's awsome! Congrats! Do you know where yet?

What is a duty manager? And what is a semi normal career progression for the lower level management positions? Say in food and beverage or retail type areas? I graduated a week ago () and start my CP the 6th. I am hoping to progress through the ranks and go full time...like so many others here /grin.

Congrats! Now you can start adding up seniority and in six months you can apply for transfer opportunities. Getting part time is really a great way to progress. You have a great future ahead!

Actually, as a Duty Manger, she would be a Casual Regular Salaried Exempt Cast Member (i.e. Part Time "Blue Card" Management). I highly doubt she'll be using the regular Hourly Transfer Process anytime in the near future, lol.

Duty Managers manage the operations for a wide area. The most visible ones are in the Theme Parks and Downtown Disney Area, where they make decisions such as what to do if inclement weather is approaching or whether to formally extend Operating Hours to deal with heavy attendance. It's really quite an interesting role with a wide range of responsibilities.

As to Career Progression, people just entering into Leadership Roles generally start out as Guest Service Managers (GSM/Frontline Supervisors), in which they are responsible for the Day-to-Day operations, as well as supporting their Cast Members. They generally go from there, some into an Area Manager role (overseeing the entire area, and setting an overall direction in order to meet goals set by the company), some into other areas.

There are just as many routes of career progression in this company as there are Cast Members, lol.

That is a pretty quick progression. (I also thought they had gotten rid of all the statused duty manager positions in the March/April '09 Reorg, but I guess not)

One of my roommates on the CP went from CP > Management Intern > Statused GSM > WDW Ambassador within the course of a year.

(For the record, most progressions aren't that fast. My personal one was CP > FT > Trainer > Relief Coordinator > Statused Coordinator // (sidetrack) Concierge, over the course of 5 years. Yes, going to concierge from coordinator is technically a drop in status ... now I'm no longer the first person guests speak to when they want a "supervisor", but I actually get paid more as a Concierge than I did as a Coordinator ... go figure)
