Owners Lockers

How much do you think it will cost you to ship the box? I'm gonna pack my smaller crock pot in my suitcase (with lots of bubble wrap!). Might have to have the DS carry on the electric griddle!:goodvibes

I signed up a while ago w/ FedEx to do most everything on line, I shipped 25 lbs to Tampa FL this past Christmasfor around $12 using ground; printing my own labels, and dropping it off at a Fed EX site.

I can also get quotes via the online site so I have an idea beforehand of the cost. One thing I NEVER do is drop off at Kinkos/FedEx - no offense to anyone who might work there. I always got to a standard FedEx office to make sure it gets off properly.

It's also handy to have my own account, so if I am somewhere and need to ship stuff home, I can use my account and avoid additional fees.

I've danced around the details of the Mousesaver's offer cause at least their standard email asks that we readers do not post the info to the general public. I have no problems forwarding the email if anyone wants to pm me their email addy tho. I do always suggest subscribing to Mousesavers when I do this; Mary will send out maybe 2 or 3 emails a month total so it's not a lot of spam or anything and it is sure worth it when she gets an offer like this in~

I just went there and signed up - but I think it may be too late to get the e-mail. Would it be possible to forward the e-mail newsletter to my e-mail address? I can PM my e-mail address, if someone is willing and thinks it would work.
PutnamDS, check your PMs!

I was really excited when I got the Mousesaver's promo email. I've been hoping a deal would come along, and it's just in time for my next trip. I signed up right away!

My DH has been saying for years that someone should start a service like this. I was thinking of signing up about a month ago, and was all excited about it. But when I told him about it, he started saying he thought the locker was too small and that the cost was too high! I got pretty annoyed with him. It's not that he'd try to stop me from signing up -- I do all of the travel arrangements -- but it bugged me that I was all excited about this, and he didn't think it was a good idea. It gets to me when he thinks my ideas are dumb!

Anyway, I have now signed up, and I'm sure I'll prove him wrong. I go to Disney at least two or three times a year, and I think this will be great. One of the things I hope to store there in my locker is a CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure machine.). This is machine that I use at night to help me breathe. Carrying it back and forth during air travel is a pain because it's too fragile to be checked and it's made of metal and can't be x-rayed, so it's always a hassle at security. I have an old one that is broken, so if it can be fixed, I'll just leave it in my locker for when I'm in Orlando. But, DH will have to be the one to fix the CPAP for me (he's an electrical engineer), so luckily we didn't stay annoyed at each other for long! :rotfl:

I have a question about OL. The first time we use it, we just will be putting a bunch of stuff into the locker. Does that count as 1 trip? I mean, I don't need the locker delivered and then later picked up as all I will be doing is putting stuff into it. How does that work?

TIA!!

It still counts as a delivery (of the empty locker) and a pick-up. You will have fun filling it up and will be surprised at how much it holds! Don't forget to make an inventory list as you pack it. We especially like the container with dividers that snaps shut. We use it for bandages, toothpaste, small flashlight, nightlights, matches, tape, scissors, etc.--all the little stuff that is so handy!

Hummm..... I've been getting MouseSaver's newsletters for years and didn't get this offer

Lisa, the title of the e-mail was:

MouseSavers.com Hot Deals Announcement – March 24, 2008

Do you have a spam filter that it may have been caught by??

Hummm..... I've been getting MouseSaver's newsletters for years and didn't get this offer
They are two different emails...the regular newsletter and the Hot Deals. I get the regular newsletter. I emailed DH at work yesterday after reading about the offer here and asked if he also got the Hot Deals...he does...so forwarded to me. I didn't even know the Hot Deals newsletter existed. I signed up yesterday, but they don't send back issues.

I remember a great thread where people listed what they have stored in their Owner's Locker, but the search keeps returning no matches. Does anyone know how to find this old thread and post a link?

Thanks,

Hi doodle, the initial delivery and pickup for your first Visit are covered by the Membership Fee. An empty Locker will be waiting for you at your resort when you check in and we will pick it up full of your stuff when you check out. This is called your Anniversary Date and this is when your year starts (it's sort of like a use year).

beacher, here's a link to a list of threads:

MaryAnn, I didn't know there was a hot deals newsletter either until Mary talked me into it!!
John

FYI...I posted this same information today on the DIS and received a "warning" (no points) for sharing information not intended for the general public. Just thought I'd let you know.

I received the same warning no points for the same thing.

How cool to see you here! I didn't know you were a DIS'er!!:lmao: I must be in another world lately!LOL I think the Owner's Lockers are a great thing, I just have to convince DH. He is worried about things getting lost/stolen/damaged. What happens to our stuff if something like a flood or other damage happened to the facility where the lockers are stored?

Hi John,

Just wondering can we use our owner's lockers for the disney cruise? And if so how do we get and drop the locker off?

Thanks, ;)

ahhh! I must not have signed up for the hot deals newsletter when I signed up ...or it was so long ago that wasn't an option then. That's OK, I probably wouldn't be able to decide by tomorrow anyway.

Although having the 'meet you at MCO' option for our VB trips sure makes it a possibility.

I purchased the OL just for my Vero Beach trips. We will mostly stay in OVIR's, so I want to put in extra cooking supplies, dishes, cutting board, etc. I spoke with Brian. We are using Thrifty car rental, and it is just a little ways from the airport. He will meet me right at the car rental with the locker and pick it up again from there upon our return home. He said that way we won't have to carry it to our rental car!! Fantastic! :goodvibes

Knowing that we can get our locker when we go to Vero is what sold me. I love the idea of having waiting for us at our DVC, but knowing that we can get it when ever we visit other places in and around Orlando makes it an easy decision.

Same here! I need more time to think about this; I don't make quick decisions well. :) I need to at least stay in a two-bedroom with my kids again to see how much stuff I really bring, or how much I buy when we're there that I can actually keep on hand in an OL. I'm just having a hard time thinking through if this will really be helpful for me.

Our next trip is in less than two weeks, and I don't think that's enough time to make the arrangements for one anyway. :confused3 But I know I'm not going to have enough time before then to think about and prepare what to put in one. This time of year gets crazy busy...soccer, graduation events. We had one heck of a time picking the only 4 days for our trip where there was relatively not too much going on!

Maybe if we go in August... :)

John (jdvm)...the initial delivery and pickup is covered by the membership fee, so there's still one delivery/pickup included in the first year of membership, covered by the annual fee?

I have been thinking about this since I heard about it. I go down 2-3 times a year but it just seems really pricey. I am a light packer.

I just signed up today using the special savings from Mousesavers! I want to start off by saying that I am one of the cheapest, I mean budget-conscious, people I know. I once paid $30 for a pair of shoes and almost threw up (DSM "made" me because I was wearing them to meet the President:lmao: ). That being said, I really think that the benefits to having this service will far outweigh the cost. What really sold me was the idea of not having to carry diaper wipes and all of the other baby gear that is necessary. This in itself will be worth it, not to mention the kitchen items that I will need.

Let's just hope that my husband agrees, because I haven't told him yet......:rolleyes1

<chuckle>

I expect to be there once a year max, but I still think it's a deal, now. I had to do some serious thinking too cause I could ship down a box and get it back for under $30 most of the time.

But...
1) would have to keep track of the box
2) would have to find space for the box
3) have to make sure nothing gets borrowed from the box
4) having failed at #3 hopefully get replacement item to put back in box- provided I know it's gone in the first place:laughing:

other benefits to my mind

5) safe place to leave the tickets for future use~ tho hubby is iffy on that part
6) can be used for VB or cruises too
7) Carry on only for flights is a goal we can meet
8) I can let friends and family use it (again iffy but a nice option)

all that peace of mind for $8.25 a month ($99 / 12 months), not incldg the initial membership fee- SOLD~:wizard:

Rather like DVC, there may be more economical ways to go to Disney or ship your stuff. This however guarantees a more magical visit.
