Does anyone have advice for using the rent/ trade board. There are so many people there and I only need up to 37 points in September but I am worried they will not want to rent that few points. I thought about using Dave's service but I do dnot need enough points. I cannot put a rent request up as they are no longer allowed and i do not want to pm everyone with points aviable. Any suggestions from people who have used that board?

I had only a few points to rent and were taken easily and quickly on the Rent/Trade board. Go for it. Just read the "rules" first. :)

i have used it three times over the years and it is very stressful.....a matter of timing for the most part.........i will not do it again. i am going to use David and gladly pay the extra...as you said that wont help you unless you figure a way to need 45 points. heck just stay an extra day. i was no help at all was i ????:)

Just jump right in.

Find a few folks who have points for rent at the rate you're willing to pay and PM them that you are looking for XX number of points.

Most people will rent their points in any increment - just because thay have 200 to rent that doesn't mean they will only rent all 200 at once. I think they realize they will rent them in smaller 'batches'.

As mentioned, read the rules and the advise on how best to rent in a way to protect yourself and to be a 'good renter'.

the way you worded this you were getting rid of points????? if so, thats easy, its getting them thats hard. if i misread you i am sorry.

I guess my concern on asking more than 1 person is if I PM 3 people what I am looking for, and they all email me back they are avaiable am I a "bad" renter becuse I do not need 2 of the 3 people's points?

We had rented points in 2005 and last year. Make sure of the terms---whether a deposit of x dollars is needed when the reservation and a time schedule of the money exchange. You might need to inquire about pay pal fees if you use it in the transferring of money.

I rented points last year and it wasn't horrible. I would PM ppl with what I was looking for and it worked out after a few tries. Pple will tell you if they don't want to rent out in small increments and it is just a matter of finding the right match. Make sure you haev a contract so all is clear.

BTW who is Dave?

Dave is a new advertiser on the site who has a business for renting points. $13 per point flat rate and he does all the work.

I have been having a one in ten respond rate when I e-mail/PM renters as they ask. The couple that have answered have been very nice, the ones that haven't responded--I kinda hope karma bites them in the small toe.

I would PM two people wait 2 days, if no answer, PM 2 other people. That way you aren't sending out batches, but aren't limiting yourself either. Good Luck. I would rent you some but I end up borrowing (and I have 2 contracts) because I plan so many trips. :lmao:Buying DVC was supposed to save me money. Instead I find myself taking 2-3 trips a year instead of 1. :scared1: Penny

You read it right. I was renting out my points. I lucked out and got a great renter and we still communicate now and then. So from his point of view, getting them was easy too.:goodvibes

OK.. I just sent 2 PM's... lets see how this works!!

Best of luck!!!

i got inspired by this thread for some reason and decided to jump back in instead of using the service. yesterday i PM'd six possibles and....................nothing.........the same as it was before.......no one gets back but yet they still advertise........a lot of these folks renting out are not disers, they they have 10 or 11 posts.......i do not think some of them really know what they are doing.....no offense. a lot of the people trying to rent seem also to be new to the boards. i even state in my PM that i have done this before and they can see that i have been an active member of the dis for 10 years. you would think that would ease their minds. i have found the biggest thing with new rentors and rentees is the paranoia..................we'll see what happens over the next couple of days............

This thread inspired me to contact Dave and check out his site. :cool1::cool1::cool1: We normally stay at Shades of Green but wanted something special for our 15th anniversary spring of 2011. I had previously crunched numbers and just wasn't worth it. Since checking Dave's site, we've decided to stay at AKL savannah view. :dance3: Already he's been very helpful.

So Yesterday I PMed 3 people and heard nothing back as of this morning.. as patience is not a trait I am very good at I PMed 2 more people today and 1 got right back to me. We have been back and forth today and she is going to call for aviability for me tomrrow. Fingeres crossed we get our first choice (AKL Club) but if not we have a #2 (Boardwalk Standard) and a #3 (AKL Savannah View) so we will see how things go. I will keep you all posted and thanks for the pixie dust.
