Yeah, it's overpriced and overvalued. As one other poster pointed out, eating at WDW 3x/day for several days is a lot different than going on a daytrip to a baseball game or a local amusement park. Many of us are at WDW for multiple days and it gets old getting ripped off for food albeit WDW food.

An offsite condo is starting to look better and better. Orlando/Kissimmee restaurants are fairly priced and the variety is good.

When it comes to Disney counter service, a little homework can go a long way. There are some very tasty options that aren't your everyday fast food. My favorite is Sunshine Seasons at Epcot - so, so many choices there (I could eat the rotisserie pork chop every day!) Take a walk around the World Showcase and you will find a lot of variety. Sandwiches at Starring Rolls at HS is a great choice. I hear there's a new expanded menu at Fairfax Fare but they already had a terrific salad there. I am eager to try to Picnic at the Park at AK. MK is probably my least favorite park for CS. But there's lots more than just hot dogs and soda, no matter what park you are at. And as far as prices are concerned, a lot of people have already touched on the fact that every theme park, ball park and various other tourist venues are all overpriced. At Disney you can save money by adding one of the dining plans OR you can do something that works well even outside of Disney - sharing meals and skipping the sugary sodas.

Any of the villas resorts in a 1bdr ,2bdr or grand villa. The studios do not have FULL kitchen

But, unless you are a DVC member, renting one of these will cost more than a hot dog at Caseys.

We were at Cedar Point in October and I kept complaining about how bad the food was and how expensive it was compared to WDW. At least there are choices at WDW. At Cedar Point it's the same crap everywhere (I guess you can find a Panda Express in one corner I forgot) and more expensive than most counter service at WDW IMHO

Im just floored that someone would actually make a reservation pack up their family and go to Walt Disney World.....and then complain about the prices. Really are you kidding me??? I spent somewhere in the neighborhood of 15 dollars for a 12 oz plastic bottle of Miller Lite and a grilled hamburger at PNC Park in Pittsburgh last summer. Disney is EXPENSIVE......period. Maybe its just me but I have very little time to worry about the prices of things when I am on vacation. I am there to relax and have fun. If I cant afford to spend the money then I would stay home. I would also never even consider taking the time and gas money to drive to another venue to save what a few bucks. Orlando as a whole is generally overpriced as a tourist destination. I have found that places like Flame Tree BBQ have quality meals that are large enough to share. Thats what I would do.

You know, I go to WDW knowing that the food is going to be expensive. When I eat at a CS, I expect just that, a quick, easily prepared food. I don't expect it to be the best thing I ever ate, but I do expect it to be good. For example, I think the chicken tenders at wdw are good, do I think they are the best chicken tenders in the world, no, do I think they are worth 10 bucks, no, do I pay it, yes. I also pay 10 bucks for a beer at the ball game, and 6 bucks for a hotdog. I think the food at wdw is expensive, but I think they could charge a lot more for it, and people would pay it. I just keep my expectations reasonable when I dine at wdw, and for the most part, my food has been good.

is how I'd describe most of the fast counter service retaurants at WDW...

few examples:

MK - casyey $30 for 3 hotdogs and 2 sodas
Epcot-electric umbrella- spent over $30 for 2 chicken fingers, Double Cheesburger drinks
Wilderness Lodge Hotel - flat bread pizza at about $8 a pop...

my question...has disney world ever thought of leaving that part to the experts?
( McDonalds, Burger King, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, Etc.)

This time I actually packed cans of tuna, and ordered from Wegoshop...that worked out well!

next time I think I will bring/buy even more of my own food...

Good. Pack a cooler and eat at the parks. Are you onsite? This past summer I went to Six Flags over Texas and three burgers, fries and cokes was 50.00. When u r at a park and have your own car walk walk walk to car and eat offsite. Plain and simple.

For me that may last from between 12:00 at lunch until around 7:00 for dinner. I'd give in to temptation; I like to eat when I'm in WDW. Yep, they've got me.

I never knew it existed...so I am now positive about eating in disney world...

it lists every restaurant in the place...unbelieavable...and from what I have read so far most of the places that I ate at the were disgusting...where the same ones with low ratings....

its a great resource...thats why I love the DISBOARD!

Well, if that's what works for you, then that works for you. Personally, I like the convenience of the dining plan and NEVER leaving WDW resort. Yes, yes, this makes WDW money. I get that. They're a business. BUT, in exchange for the money I give them, I get something in return. In addition to food that is really not all that bad (I've had some fabulous meals at WDW) I also get the perk of never being in the "real world" for a full 12 days. That to me is worth the extra $$$ for food. I'm not about to eat tuna fish while at WDW. Nor peanut butter. Ick. Nor do I want to drive outside of the "world" and see Wal-Mart, Taco Bell, etc. I think those places are nasty, and while they may be cheaper, they're still gross. But that's just me! Onsite dining works for me, offsite dining works for you.

Wanted to add that for our family, if we are in a position to have to really budget tightly at WDW, then we just don't go. Those off years we will head to our local beach for a few days and grill our own food or pick up fast food. But I'd never go to WDW if I had to leave the resort every meal to go get Taco Bell. The resort and plane tickets are costing far too much money for me to eat something so very ordinary. I don't eat KFC when I go to Europe nor would I eat Pizza Hut in Hawaii, if that makes any sense.

This is why we get the dining plan. I don't care about the prices. I mean I do but I know I'm going on vacation and what's the point of complaining. I know the prices. But DH.....he can complain a little bit. So with the DDP he doesn't even realize it and I don't feel the need to smack him in the back of the head!

HA! That's why my dh loves the dining plan! We had it last trip, but not the one before that. He told me just last night that he will only go back if we are on the dining plan. He loves being able to order what he wants without having to think about prices. Some of our meals were close to $200 on the receipt but since we were on the dining plan, we only paid just over $100 for our entire day of food. Three delivered large pizzas are going to cost at least $50 after tip. I don't get it! I'd rather have a great steak on vacation than Papa John's!

It's nice to see everyone's opinion on the CS meals at Disney, both those that like them and those that think they are overpriced and not very good.

So far the thread has been pretty respectful, with just a few exceptions that were removed. Just a reminder that this isn't anyone's personal vendetta. No vengeful revolts will be encouraged by the Restaurant Board.

Also remember that nobody is stupid for liking or not liking the food or the dining plan. Different strokes for different folks and that's what makes the world go round.

Um. No. I know better than to order pizza at Walt Disney World - in part because it's, at best, so-so; but MUCH more importantly, because I can GET pizza ANYWHERE. I can stop at, let's see, any one of six places on my way too or from work without going out of my way more than two hundred feet. WHY would I order something at WDW that I can easily get at home????

disney is not some sort of exotic dining destination...
I gravitate toward orlando for the amusement....not the food...that is secondary...but it would be nice to eat something that is pallatteable and doesnt give me a stomach issues my second day in....

there are 100's of many great resorts/ bed and breakfasts around the country that do that way better...if my vacation revolved more round eating...I would go there instead!
