overpriced and not very good...

Fair question; let me use an example of any particular day.

Flaming Tree BBQ (counter serve)

1/2 slab of ribs $10.49
Soda $2.19
Key Lime Pie $ 3.59

Total $16.27 (not including the tax which Is included in the DDP)

Le'Cellier (table service)

Mushroom Filet Mignon $34.99
Soda $2.19 (?)
Cheese Cake $6.99

Total $44.17 (again didn't figure in the tax)

One snack in the park

On average $3.00

Total for the day $63.44
So, with the DDP costing me about $47 per person, that is a good deal for me. Of course those who are nibblers, the DDP may not be the best option. But for my family, we enjoy the restaurants as much as the parks, it's all part of our experience.

Thanks, now I am very hungry but you have also given me 2 great ideas for my trip!!

that disney so graciously provides me the opportunity to eat ...lol

my brother drove off property to bring his kids to a chick fil a once and i was trying very hard to order a pizza from pizza hut (dont diliver to area I found out ) but pappa johns does....

actually to be fair...i did have 3 good eats ..

1. tuna sandwich at harbor house - not only for cats....humans can eat it too...it gas omega 3 , every good for you

2.turkey sanwich at contemporary

3. tonga toast at polynesian

i just located the reviews area on the site here though i will add my two cents and do a few reviews...good resorce! http://reviews.wdwinfo.com/showcat.php/category/40

ironically i wasn't the only one that had a cold double cheesburger at eletric umbrella ( epcot )

my other alternative is to stay at a resort where prepare my own light meals...I know that wouldn't be at the CR, POL GF, WL. AK....

so where are the resorts with an actual kitchen? BC ?

Any of the villas resorts in a 1bdr ,2bdr or grand villa. The studios do not have FULL kitchen

Also Fort Wilderness Cabins; and the Family Suites at All Star Music have kitchenettes that include a coffeemaker, a microwave oven, and a small refrigerator.

I used to love Tangierine Cafe. Used to being the operative word. It's been a while since my last visit there until a couple months ago. I ordered an item I had previously enjoyed, and it was just so wrong on so many levels.

Luckily, my tuna sandwich at Columbia Harbor House has not let me down, so I will continue to endorse that.

And I also discovered the reason I stayed away from the ABC Commissary at the Studios. I went there on the same trip from a couple months ago...and it's still just bleh. I ordered the burger. If I'm going to have a burger, I think I'd rather have it as Pecos Bill's or Cosmic Ray's where I can disguise the burger with the toppings bar items.

Cans of tuna? Did you take your cat?

Hahaha...this made my day! :rotfl:

On to the topic, isn't everything in Disney somewhat "overpriced"? We rarely eat hamburgers or hot dogs at Disney, for I don't expect them to be all that great. There are some better CS options, like at Cosmic Rays. I am glad that Disney isn't all chain restaurants, for that is what makes it different!

WDW is a "tourist trap"

thanks for hitting the nail on the head....

i guess it is what it is....

I can't say I blame them, its just the business model...and they are a business

the offer for free food or the offer for 3 free when you pay for 4, the offer for $750 debit card during your visit...the all are a vechicles in which to get you there...in hopes you'll end up spending alot more $ when your there!

As other folks have said, WDW tends to be overpriced on most things. We go expecting that. We do use the counter service restaurants at least once a day. We'll eat burgers or chix fingers once or twice but mostly we look for different options. Some of our fav's are the Taco Salad @ Pecos Bills, Chicken dinners @ Cosmic Ray's, Fish & Chips @ Yorkshire County Fish Shop and pretty much anything from Sunshine Seasons.

You weren't one of those kids growing up where you had to put your hand on the stove twice to learn the first time was not a fluke.

I will never make that mistake again, I've been to ABC Commissary once and it will never happen again. :sad2:

What's odd, is the first time I ate at the commissary many years, I thought is was awful. Some friends wanted to eat there in 2008, and it was pretty tasty. It really seems to vary..and their menu keeps changing, so you may, or may not, get a pretty good meal there...depending upon the menu of the day.

One of our favorites, Brown Derby, really disapponted us in January of this year, and it will be a while before we go there again...but eventually, the food usually improves. Disney eateries seem to be somewhat cyclic.

As far as "overpriced" goes... you are in a theme park. That's going to happen at ANY theme park. Or any sports stadium for that matter. Ever get a cheesesteak at Lincoln Financial Field? Or a Hot Dog at Giant's Stadium?

As for not good, it depends on where you go. I can be very happy with the counter service food at Sunshine Seasons or Cosmic Ray's or Columbia Harbour House or anywhere in World Showcase...

It doesn't bother me to pay those prices, I don't let it get in the way of my fun.

WDW Resort is overpriced....please let me know of any resort destination that is not overpriced.

We have found some great and some not-so-great CS meals, but we don't think the price is out of range of some other theme park meals.

I think that Disney could do things that other parks do to give guests more of a a value, like the all-day refillable mug. Last week, we got hot soup at Casey's and it was very tasty, but too small for the price. On the other hand, a turkey leg at $8 was good for 2 of us with some left over for later.

Yea, let me know too....I just came back from Disney, and guess what...I ordered a LOT of kids meals at the counter services, and I ate them and payed a LOT less, it depends on how hungry I was at the time!:thumbsup2 Breakfast at Sunshine Seasons cost me a little over 6 bucks with a Orange juice.:thumbsup2 Oh, and I just made a hotel ressie last night for May!

I am different from a lot of the pp here, and I do agree about the prices at Casey's at crazy, but I have to have my Casey's. I eat alot of turkey, tuna and yes even sushi for my lunch, along with salads at home. I don't get excited about Liberty Tree Tavern because I LOVE my turkey and stuffing and I don't think they can compare. We try to eat pretty healthy and I cook at lot for dinner, so when I am at Disney I want the hamburgers and french fries and junk that everyone else says that they can get at home. I also don't care about the beloved Mickey Ice cream bars(shocking, I know) and I dont care about Dole whips. YUCK. So anyway, to each his own. But give me my Casey's or I am not happy.

When it comes to Disney counter service, a little homework can go a long way. There are some very tasty options that aren't your everyday fast food. My favorite is Sunshine Seasons at Epcot - so, so many choices there (I could eat the rotisserie pork chop every day!) Take a walk around the World Showcase and you will find a lot of variety. Sandwiches at Starring Rolls at HS is a great choice. I hear there's a new expanded menu at Fairfax Fare but they already had a terrific salad there. I am eager to try to Picnic at the Park at AK. MK is probably my least favorite park for CS. But there's lots more than just hot dogs and soda, no matter what park you are at. And as far as prices are concerned, a lot of people have already touched on the fact that every theme park, ball park and various other tourist venues are all overpriced. At Disney you can save money by adding one of the dining plans OR you can do something that works well even outside of Disney - sharing meals and skipping the sugary sodas.
