Royal Caribbean ship porting in New Jersey is being held to test passengers because there are people on the ship who have been to China recently. If people would just tell the truth you wouldn't screw over other people. It is only a matter of time before lawyers get involved if people find out passengers boarded knowing that they should not be boarding.

Someone with a better memory than me, when did RCI and Disney implement their 15 day no sail rule? This ship left the 27th and I have been curious as to whether people will get over their PC nonsense and actually ask the questions and screen appropriately. If this ship left after the rules went into place, its a good barometer for how well we can expect those rules to be followed, people over profit.

From recent reports for DCL it looks like they are looking at all pages in the passports before they let you in the terminal. So if you have a stamp from China in the past 20 days they aren't letting you in. It is slowing down entry but thats a good thing. Now how to catch folks that are just using a birth certificate. I wonder if they'll start temperature checking everyone? Again not foolproof (meds do wonders) but its a step. I wonder if they are going to start doing any types of checks in the parks as well?

Fortunately on Disney ships, there is a paper towel dispenser next to the door so you can use that rather than paper that has been right next to a flushing toilet.

IIRC weren’t the doors push to exit anyway? I seem to remember opening them with my backside, but maybe not it was a few years ago.

While it would be an unanticipated expense, DCL needs to hire temporary workers with some established level of medical training. It shouldn't fall onto the shoulders of DCL personnel to have to take passengers' temperatures and conduct basic evaluations. DCL personnel were not trained for this level of passenger scrutiny and it's unrealistic to expect them to be able to adequately perform this added responsibility.

I think they also need to announce that people who fess up will be rebooked/refunded. That will help with honesty.

I don’t know when RCL began their ban. DCL didn’t begin until Jan 31. This ship has been out for 12 days...

Based on nbc news this is where the containment strategies breaks down and it becomes impossible to contain. 4 people were taken off in an ambulance, 2 on stretchers, and they had been under monitoring on the ship already. It seems everyone else will be disembarked and sent home. We’ve seen from Diamond Princess that this thing spreads pretty rapidly on a ship (from 1 person who left 15 days ago to 61 cases). So 4 active, and potentially severe (given the stretchers) patients have the potential for a greater outbreak, and all those people are scattering back home.... On Diamond Princess several of the new cases say they are symptomatic but feel fine (light cough, fever), but how contagious are they and given 10 days do their symptoms become serious or will they stay minor. That’s what we really need to figure out before we can get a handle on the spread.

This is what I thought. Pre new rule embarkation. I seem to recall RCI and DCL instituting policy change within hours of one another, then the Bahamas made its 20 day rule, then DCL upped its days to match. So not a good barometer after all.
My husband is a tough dude, not afraid of anything. Really uncomfortable with our March 2 embarkation date, though. Momma needs a vacay, so I keep using facts and logic to fight the fear. Then something new happens and I have to start all over again. Sigh 😔

We have a march 7th date, going to the parks for 9 nights before that. We have been planning for over a year and people better not screw up our trip.

I can’t believe they will simple dismiss all those people before getting the test results back, which I’ve read can take up to 48 hours.

Yeah, I don’t think anybody lied as someone suggested. If memory serves me correctly, the CDC and WHO declared it a crisis and then the cruise lines responded same day.

You can also tell him that it is becoming increasingly difficult to even get into/out of China to begin with.

I’d be much more cautious about the parks than the cruise. Wash your hands, wash your hands and...oh, yeah...wash your hands.

Yeah, we are really strict when are are at these large public places about hand washing and simply not touching everything. We try to scare it into our little ones as best we can.

But if someone infected coughs or sneezes in your face, handwashing won’t help.

😱😱I can't believe they are sending them home! Are they mad???

Quote from CNN Article:

"Royal Caribbean will "be conducting enhanced sanitation in the cruise terminal and onboard, as part of our ongoing illness prevention efforts," the cruise line tweeted to passengers expected to board.
The ship is "still scheduled to sail and if you choose to cancel regular cancellation penalties would apply," according to a tweet."

This is crazy. During this time period these companies really need to let people cancel flights, trains, buses, and cruises without penalty.
