Just thought I would start a discussion about my new obsession the Outlander series by Diana Gabaladon. So gather around and let's chat.

I am finishing up the Fiery Cross. I like, but don't love it like the others. Is A Breath of Snow and Ashes better?

Also, I just saw on Diana's website that they are working on a graphic novel! She has some preliminary stuff posted. Go to her website dianagabaldon.com and then Excerpts and then Outlander Graphic Novel.

Are there any other Jamie fans out there?

Oh, I love those books. ABOSAA is very good. Supposedly, a new book in the series is being written. Might need to re-read a few to get ready! Claire and Jamie's connection is really something. There are some good discussion boards by her fans; you can get the info on her website. Makes me want to visit Scotland!

I just started Dragonfly in Amber. I've had these first two books for years and finally read Outlander on a trip to Italy last month. I really enjoyed it.

I bought Voyager for my Kindle this morning. In fact, I was coming onto the DIS to see if anyone could verify the order of these books. How many are there?

I love these books but I've been reading them as they were published and it takes soooo long for a new one. :lmao: They really are wonderful, though. I enjoyed A Breath of Snow and Ashes. :thumbsup2

Briarmom--I don't have access to the books right now but I believe the order is this:

Outlander
Dragonfly in Amber
Voyager
Drums of Autumn
The Fiery Cross
A Breath of Snow and Ashes

I'm sure someone will correct me if I got it wrong! ;)

I think a new one is coming out this fall.

Hello fellow Outlander fans....I am a HUGE fan of these books - am half way through Fiery Cross.

Briarmom, there are currently six books in the series; the seventh, (and reportedly final) book, An Echo in Bone, is set to be released in September 2009 - according to Amazon.

The books are (in order):

Outlander
Dragonfly in Amber
Voyager
Drums of Autumn
Fiery Cross
Breath of Snow and Ashes

coming 9/22/09......An Echo in the Bone

I just started reading this series too. I am almost done with Dragonfly in Amber, and I just checked my local library's website to make sure Voyager is on the shelf so I can check it out.

I loved Outlander, and couldn't put it down. I think the second book has too much political strategy, which I find boring, so I am skimming over those parts.

Here's a question for all of you....

If (and I hope they do) make a movie of the first book, Outlander, who should play Jamie and who should play Clair?

Discuss......

Thanks! I've got a few really long flights coming up in the next month, so I'll need some 900 page books to keep me busy.:thumbsup2

If they'd made a movie a few years ago, I'd have said Liam Neeson for Jamie. He's too old now, sadly. And I have no alternate suggestions now.

I recently saw a suggestion somewhere for Rachel Weisz for Claire--I think she'd be great in the role. She has that air of capability about her.

Has anyone listened to the audio books? I was thinking about borrowing from the library..if they have it.....just to hear the dialect. That's what really slows down my reading of these books.

Jason Lewis from Sex and the City, if he dyed his hair red. :lovestruc

I LOVE these books! Such amazing, rich stories!

Gerard Butler for Jamie...all the way. He already has the accent, is definitely tall enough, and is just too sexy for words.

I'm having trouble coming up with someone for Claire. Kate Beckinsale comes to mind, but no one really "screams" the part.

Joining this thread. DH bought me Outlander, just have to read it.

Which should I do first: Outlander, The Host, or Guilty Pleasures?

Mmmmm. He has good cheek bones! I could see it.

Claire stumps me as well.

From the Graphic Novel she is creating . . .

She has a sketch of Jamie (young) and a color portrait of Claire (although her hair is not as curly as I thought!)

I almost don't want them to make a movie. I like my version of Jamie and I don't know if I want it to change!

Alright, alright. I'll take one for the team and play Claire.
It will be difficult to get paid to roll around with Jason Lewis, but if it will help get the movie made....:rolleyes1

Okay, I'm in! I'm a huge fan of the Outlander books, I have all of them and between me reading and re-reading them and my sister doing the same, they are falling apart--held together by rubberbands! Counting down the days until 9/22.

As a funny aside, my sister and I talk so much about the characters that my DH thinks they are real people and tries to figure out who in the heck we are talking about. :lmao::lmao::lmao:

Oh, and before he died, I always envisioned Heath Ledger as my Jamie. :sad1: And Christian Bale has always been my Roger.:love:

:rotfl2:You are SOOOOO generous.

WOW - Way to take one for the team!

As much as I would love to see this on the big screen.....I do have the same feelings as TinkerMom...I have a vision and don't want it ruined. They did that to me with Bridges of Madison County. From the minute I started reading the book, Sam Elliott was only only face I saw - then they cast Clint Eastwood (gag) as the lead and I never saw the movie.....

Maybe the best thing would be to give two completely unknowns their big break !
