I think it's an 'okay' series. I am a bit of a history nut so I found some of the situations in the books implausible. I realise that the books are fiction but I couldn't get past some of the situations that the characters got themselves into. Sometimes it seemed like the author was giving Georgian era people modern type values.
Chelsea Quinn Yarbro writes excellent historical fiction and she does a huge amount of research on each era that her books take place in. They are dark because the eras that they take place in were full of disease, hardship and relgious fanaticism of one kind or another. I guess what I am trying to say is that I like my historical fiction to be more anout history than romance.
