Out of State Travelers Planning Thread- Disneyland Updates

We are booked for a family vacation over Memorial Day weekend and a mother/son stay in September. The latter has been rebooked 4-5 times now. If Sept is still a no go, we will throw in the towel and head to FL. I’ve gotta make that decision by late June I think for airfare reasons. We are in AZ, about 6 hours drive from DL.

OK, here's the weird part: Anyone can go to Touch of Disney, but as soon as one ride opens it suddenly becomes CA residents only???

P.S. Sorry bcwife76, but CA is 'California', not 'Canada'... :confused3
Haha I gotcha 👍 I'll use CDN for Canada in this post 😂

In WA state (Seattle area). I can’t wait to come and will do so once 1) my hubby and I are vaccinated- we’re at the end of the list! 2) CA lets us! I definitely understand both the frustration and the balancing act officials are trying to do. Fingers crossed for Fall! But I may be tempted earlier if it looks feasible.

We’ve been working from home (thankful I can!), schooling totally from home and isolating from most friends and family for a year. We have not been anywhere except 1 camping trip for a year. It is a relief to see some light at the end of the tunnel, but I think the next few months will be the hardest!

While it is Touch of Disney, it is classified shopping and restaurants. Shopping and restaurants aren't restricted the same. Orange county is in the Red Tier, so they can have 25% indoor dining. BUT, as soon as it returns to a theme park, restrictions of no out of state and NO INDOOR DINING (until Orange) apply. So, during Touch of Disney, we can dine inside at Lamplighter, but when it turns back to a theme park, we can't....

I'm in Vegas, and I wouldn't be surprised if the majority of tourists on the strip are coming in from California. Certainly many more Californians would come to the Strip than Nevadans would go to California theme parks.

I have VGC booked for mid May. Those points expire at the end of May, so it's use them or lose them. I suppose I would have no trouble renting out the reservation if we were prevented from entering the parks. I also have a weekend in September booked for my DD's and my birthdays. Finally, I have the first weekend in December booked. I haven't been there for Christmas in many years, and I really look forward to going this year after everything that has happened.

Me too! May 19-22.

Definitely the normal SoCal crowd every weekend. Each Sunday I-15 South is the usual bright red starting at St. Rose.

We have gone and cancelled our July trip over from England and pushed it 12 months, it may sound ridiculous to some but it was all so stressful constantly worrying if the trip would go ahead or not.
Here's hoping 2022 is totally different and things have returned to normal, it would be heaven to walk down main street again and hopefully without a mask on.

I hope it's ok for me to join this thread, as well. I'm from CA, but I was hoping my next trip would be with my mom who is from Hawaii. We were supposed to be there last year for her birthday in April, so it's hard that she'll have to miss it again this year on her birthday. I'm not sure when I can plan a trip for her, so this thread is really helpful.

It sounds like several people are aiming for Christmas, so I went ahead and booked a room for the two of us the 2nd week of December and will be hoping for the restrictions to be lifted along with everyone else here!

I promised her that she could come as soon as it's allowed, but the reservations give her something to look forward to for now.

Just because you are vaccinated does not mean you can travel. You can only travel if the place you want to go to allows you to enter.

Non Essential Travel Advice and Passenger Form on LAX website
Los Angeles is requiring all travelers entering the City from other states and countries to fill out this online form, acknowledging that they understand and will abide by the LA County Department of Public Health's Travel Requirement, and understand the State of California’s Travel Advisory. Travelers over the age of 16 must submit this form online prior to or upon arrival at Los Angeles International Airport, Van Nuys Airport, or Union Station. Failure to submit the form is punishable by a fine of up to $500

The State of California Travel Advisory
Non-Essential Travel
1. Except in connection with essential travel, Californians should avoid non-essential travel to any part of California more than 120 miles from one's place of residence, or to other states or countries. Avoiding travel reduces the risk of virus transmission, including by reducing the risk that new sources of infection and, potentially, new virus strains will be introduced to California.

2. Non-essential travelers from other states or countries are strongly discouraged from entering California, and should adhere to the quarantine procedures.

Quarantine Post-Travel
3. All persons arriving in or returning to California from other states or countries, should self-quarantine for 10 days after arrival, except as necessary to meet urgent critical healthcare staffing needs or to otherwise engage in emergency response. Additionally, this recommendation does not apply to individuals who routinely cross state or country borders for essential travel.

Travelers Prohibited from Entry to the United States
With specific exceptions, several Presidential proclamations suspend and limit entry into the United States, as immigrants or nonimmigrants, of noncitizens who were physically present within the following countries during the 14-day period preceding their entry or attempted entry into the United States.
  • China
  • Iran
  • European Schengen area (Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Monaco, San Marino, Vatican City)
  • United Kingdom (England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland)
  • Republic of Ireland
  • Brazil
  • South Africa

I get it, over the past year, we have canceled 10 Disneyland trips, and 2 cruises (one of each was to welcome my newly adopted grandkids to the family.). I'm thinking 2022 will be much better.

I totally get it. Stressing about contingency plans is driving me crazy too and I’m only one state away!

Traveling can be done safely. We have been to Idaho twice, silver wood and roaring rapids water park. We have also been to great wolf lodge in Washington. I live in oregon and feel the west coast has been overboard with restrictions.
We would love to finally get to use our Disneyland tickets we bought for our trip last march. Disney will not refund us and won’t let us use them for Disney world.
We are hoping to go next spring break, 1 year from next week, but won’t go until it’s back to normal. It’s sad because it was suppose to be a trip to focus on my youngest and now he doesn’t even want to go. He said he’d rather go to universal studios. At this point I prefer my money back but Disney won’t budge on that.

BadPinkTink.... no one is following that in or out of CA. Well, not no one I’m sure, but no one is not traveling to or from CA if they really want to (From the US obviously). Our city parks are still shut down 3 months later because so many CA soccer teams were coming for tournaments. I’m not saying they should be going to CA, but people are. And CA people are leaving CA, no problem. Which is why I still support a full mandatory quarantine like other states have done/are doing, vs this silly advisory with no consequences that even CA residents are ignoring. It doesn’t seem likely now, but it would make more sense to me.

Whether you agree with it or not, people need to be aware of the official advice from the State of California. This is a pandemic, the State of California has issued advice it feels necessary to keep the people of California safe. What people do once they are aware of the official advice is up to them. But people do need to be made aware of the official advice

But thats my point.... no one mentions it. And sure you can say people should look it up. And yeah, they probably should. But they aren’t. And we see CA people here all the time. I chatted with a lovely couple from Oakland at the spring training game (baseball) last weekend. They were here for a week going to as many games as possible. The Dodgers and Giants games sold out quickly (also CA teams). So, when people who aren’t on travel message boards chat with these same people, it’s natural to think “They are coming here for baseball, it must be fine to go to the beach.” Then they go to the beach. No one stops them. They might get asked if they are bringing in fruit at the border but no one asks them to quarantine, or even advises it. It’s welcome to San Diego! Use our wifi to work while you’re here.

I myself cancelled a SD trip after Christmas due to travel warnings. But I won‘t in late May after seeing how many CA residents are traveling anyway. And I dont at all mean that as a knock. I see them at places we go. And I put myself on the slightly more Covid cautious than middle side of people. Like a 4 if 1 is I haven’t been outside and 10 is Covid is a hoax scale.

What people not on Dis do or know is not my concern. I posted the official advice from the State of California on the Dis in this thread which is specifically for out of state people planning a trip to California so that Dis boards members find information they may not know about.. People come here looking for travel planning advice, and this is travel planning advice they need to know. People need to make informed choices, and they need to have the full information available to them to make that informed choice. What people do once they have that information is out of my control.

I understand your point. If only the state of CA was as diligent and passionate as you are.

Just because you are vaccinated does not mean you can travel. You can only travel if the place you want to go to allows you to enter.

I think that's why this thread was created. I'm sure this information is useful to some who haven't been keeping up (maybe some lurkers who don't actively participate on the boards), but most here are aware of the restriction that the state is enforcing. We unfortunately do not have a date that those out-of-state can visit, so that is why many are eyeing late 2021 when restrictions will more than likely be lifted.

Who knows? We could be surprised in the coming weeks and the restriction could be lifted sooner. I'm happy we have this thread so any new information can be shared.
