My DH and I took in the Hoop-De-Doo dinner show on Friday, Oct. 12. We saw the first show at 5:00pm and sat in category 2 seating area.

Much to my surprise, we had a great time! I had read on this board that Hoop-De-Doo was enjoyed by families, and that couples wouldn't like it as much. Well, I have to respectfully disagree with that, and if there are any couples out there who are thinking about seeing Hoop-De-Doo, go for it! :thumbsup2

Getting to Fort Wilderness by 4:30pm didn't go as planned. We were staying at Pop Century and waited for a MK bus so we could then boat to Fort Wilderness then walk to Pioneer Hall. At 4:15pm no bus came for MK, and we had already been waiting 40 minutes! So we decided to use our own car and drive to Fort Wilderness ourselves. To make a long story short, we arrived at Pioneer Hall at 4:57pm, (after getting lost driving around the 'World')! :rotfl2:

Cast members directed us towards the balcony as we came in. Salad, cornbread and butter were already placed on the table when we were seated. I noticed people at other tables digging into their salad immediately, so my DH and I followed suite. I should mention the Hoop-De-Doo seats like normal restaurants. All parties are seated at their own table. I thought we'd be seating with strangers at large tables, sharing food. This is what I was prepared for, but it was nice to see that it wasn't set up like that.

Anyway we also enjoyed fried chicken, mashed potatoes, Bar-B-Q ribs, baked beans, beer, sangria, and for dessert strawberry short cake.

The show is played throughout the meal, with breaks. It was funny and we had a great time!

Our waitress was the best....she always came out to refill our drinks and make sure we were taken care of. (In fact she was better than our waiter at Fulton's.)

I feel the value of this experience is in the show, (and maybe the alcohol!), but not the food. The food was so so, but you're really paying for the show. Speaking of food, I'd have to say my favorite items were the salad, cornbread, chicken and mashed potatoes. The baked beans were gross to me, but my DH liked them. Go figure!

We'd probably do this again in the future, but because it's expensive we won't do it every trip.

TipIf you plan on using Disney transportation, give yourself plenty of time. (Like an hour and a half.) I told a CM at Pop my plan to bus to MK then boat to Fort Wilderness. She said that was perfect and to allow 1 hour. As you can see, we needed more time then that!

Keep in mind that if you arrive at the suggested time of 4:30pm, you'll be standing around until 5pm. I think they want everyone there early to do the photo op.

We love the Hoop-De-Doo. We do it every time we come to Disney Worl.:yay: We were there in September and they picked my dad to be the Fairy tale. That will be something my kids will never forget. We think it worth the money you have to pay!

Great review, I love Hoop Dee Doo. My only regret is that we didn't get the family picture.

We loved the HDD when we went in August. We had heard mixed reviews also. But after experiencing it I have to say it is one of the best meals we've had....simple yes...but very good! The service was fantastic and the show was very cute. Deffinately worth trying if you never have!

Thank you for posting your review. My DBF & I booked HDDReview for my Birthday dinner on November 13th and I was so afraid that a couple with no kids wouldn't enjoy the show and dinner. My DBF agreed to go for my birthday but I don't want him to have a miserable time because that would make my night crappy.

Thanks again!!! :cool1:

DH and I have been to HDDR three times -- all three were just the two of us. We had a great time every time. We did it the last two trips as our first night dinner. When I started planning this trip in January, he said he didn't want to go to HDDR again. Tonight at dinner I reminded him that we were going to California Grill our first night. He said, "We're not going to Hoop Di Doo???" :rotfl2: HDDR is for everyone, not just families! I love going to Fort Wilderness at night too! (Make sure you check out the tree with the lawnmower in it while you are there!)

DH and I love HDD and love the balcony. I'm so glad you tried it and loved it.:thumbsup2

What did you think of your seats? We are thinking of doing this show but I don't want to be right in the action Cat. 1.

We loved Hoop-De-Doo! I will always cherish the memory of my kids completely belly-laughing at all the silly jokes! One of the best days of the trip.:thumbsup2
