and it is possible it was a day or two ago, judging by the state of things. He lived longer then the average hedgehog as most pets seem to do in our house.
But now he's in a tub in the hallway. It is smelly. I'm not sure what to do. I'm out of trashbags. I'm waiting for dh to bring some home. The only thing I can think of to do is to put the whole container into a bag. It feels bad but I live at the beach with no real yard.
By the way, hedgehogs make great pets. If they're legal in your state I really would recommend them. Much better then the guinea pigs, ferrets, hamsters, etc we've had in the past. Plus lots of fun to watch.

That's so sad. What was the little guy's name? I almost got one years ago, but someone said they make HUGE poops, so I got a guinea pig (the greatest GP ever, and he lived to be 7.5).

I'm sorry :(
I had a hedgehog when we lived in FL. They do make awesome pets.

His name was elvis. And their poops are small and much less smelly then gp's. That's one of the reasons I loved him so much. The gp cage was a constant battle with smelly.

Could you tell us a little more about keeping hedgehogs as pets? What do they eat? Do they stay in a cage like a guinea pig? How often does it have to be cleaned? How long to HH's live?? Many thanks in advance!!!

So sorry:(

:paw: Condolences from Shakespeare, Trevor, Bojangles, Blondie, Lifesaver, Mama, Streak, Princess and me!

I'm sorry to hear about your loss. May he live long & healthy at the Rainbow Bridge. :)

Hedgehogs are trouble free. They're prickly but when they're calm and know you, you can hold them just fine. I've gotten a little pricked, no big deal once or twice. A large rubbermade container is good for them. They also like a sand box. You need to use corn cob litter or aspen litter as pine or cedar is bad for them.
You can feed them cat food or hedgehog food, or some people have fed them rabbit pellets. They're supposed to like chicken and veggies and you it would probably be better for them if they ate that more but mine didn't like it much. They're also supposed to like meal worms and crickets. Mine didn't. You can also rig up a wheel for them but you have to make it so their feet won't fall thru. My sister bought a large ball for her hedgehog like hamsters used and he seemed to like it. We took ours out of his cage every couple days to run around the house. You have to watch because they are so small and fast. They're really funny to just watch walk around.
I'm sad but very recently he seemed to have developed a health problem. I thought I would have to have him put to sleep but he went peacefully on his own. He was seven years old

Awww, I'm sorry. Hedgehogs are so cute. I've always wanted one.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Losing a little pet is sometimes harder than losing a big one.

Thanks for the info Tiggeroo, I am definitely intrigued. Can you post a picture of Elvis?
