Our Halloween Pop adventure trip report 10/25-11/1/09 Animal Kingdom #3 6/28 pg.19

I think she looks great! Well worth the pain, hopefully.

Are you glad she didn't pick blue? :rotfl:

While she was having her makeover done, Doug went and got her this plush Snow White and a pink Mickeyhead necklace - I thought that was so sweet

I was really happy with how these turned out – I even blew one up to hang on Maddie’s wall in her bedroom. So that was the end of our time at DTD – now it was time to head to Magic Kingdom for Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party!

I am not a big fan of BBB, but your DD came out AWESOME! I mean AWESOME!!!! the FGMIT did a great job.

Sorry about the timing, heat, nap..2nd time around factor and doing it at WOD......

Thanks Jordan - she really did look cute and she says she had fun and that's what matters!

I was mentally prepared to let her pick any color after reading Jensieb's trip report and Claire is so cute in that pink hair - I knew it would be ok :)

Ah, Maddie must've felt like a star getting all that attention! She looks beautiful!

Tricia was eleven when BBB first opened and even though she says she felt a "little too old" for it, she's glad she was able to try it at least once... and so am I!

It's fun to see the expression on their faces when they see themselves in the mirror!

Yes, I just love the look of aww when they first see themselves! That's one thing that was better this time - the photopass picture of that moment :thumbsup2

Awww, cute pictures from BBB! Bummer it wasn't as good an experience as the first time but it still looks like she enjoyed it.

She really did :cloud9: I think she wants to try the Pirate thing next time.

I about died when she chose pink hair, but it was all about her, so I quieted up fast. But thruough my mind I was like OH NO!!! But by the end of the week it seemed pretty normal to have pink hair......so much so I tried it myslef.. LOL! (it is about all out now thank god!)

I love your pics. It looks like she had a good time once the brushing stopped.
Did the photoshoot people give you any hassle about getting a package at all? I have heard some do now.
If I can get Skip to go to Orlando/Universal this year..I am planning on hitting DTD one day and getting Claire's hair done there. All BIG IF's rigt now. Skip told Claire last night she wasn't tall enough for rides....and she was about in tears, so I got a measuring tape and proved she was tall enough (she even grew 2 inches from last year) and that she rode all those rides last year, so she would be fine to ride them again.

Nice pictures!!!!

I'm sorry about DDs BBB experience :( I too am not a fan of DTD BBB. When I went for an interview there to be put on the FT list for BBB, they treated me horrible and made me sit and watch for hours when I had worked over a year as a CP at BBB MK. Needless to say it took my managers at MK BBB to have me put on the FT list (doesn't matter now, I'm teaching in OH) but they just rubbed me the wrong way!

I'm shocked your FGIT was so harsh with DD's hair. When I read that I thought, oh she must be doing a fairytale of which needs to be slick and straight but when I saw the diva bun, I thought, omg..we were taught at MK that you only need the front smooth and the back is covered with the hair :(

She turned out amazingly though! Your FGIT might have been a CP??

Can't wait for more!!

They didn't give me any issues about buying a package. I gave them my card, they took her pictures and we left - no questions asked. This was at Guest relations at DTD, so I wonder if the issue is more at MK's exposition hall? Awww - shame on skip for trying to trick Claire - that never works!

I think she was for sure a college program student - just judging by her age. Sorry you had such a tough time with the DTD people, that stinks

Sorry Maddie had to fo through the hair pulling I probably would have teared up too. She looked so cute!

Yeah, when you plan so long and look forward to your child have a great experience, seeing them tear up isn't easy to take. Thankfully it got better! Thanks for the compliment :)

Her Fairy Godmother in training was very nice, but needs to learn to be a bit more gentle when combing the girl’s hair up into the ponytail

I've often wondered about that. All the pics I see in the trip reports look like the hair is pulled so tight into the ponytail!

Maddie ended up looking adorable and the photo shoot turned out great!

The ponytail itself isn't that tight - they slick the hair back with alot of gel, so that's why it looks so tight. The issue was Maddie's hair had some snarls in it and she just pulled the brush through them. I wish she would have asked me to brush it or been more gentle when she did it. I love the photoshoot pictures though - they really did turn out nice!

When I last left off, we had just finished Maddie’s post-Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique photo shoot and it was time to head to Magic Kingdom for the Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party! We caught the bus to the Contemporary Resort – I don’t think we waited very long because I have nothing written down. Once we arrived at the Contemporary we took the path and walked to Magic Kingdom. We arrived at Magic Kingdom at about 4:45.

On our way in, be bought Maddie one of those balloons that have the Mickey head inside. I only note this because it will be a story later in the report ;)

We headed to Adventureland. It was overcast but was pretty sticky this afternoon, so a snack sounded good about now. I had read about Dole whip and Dole whip floats over my 4 years reading the Disboards, but we hadn’t tried one on our previous trips. So we decided this was the night. Now, I generally feel dessert isn’t worth it if chocolate isn’t involved, but I knew Doug would enjoy it. I told Tricia about them as well, and she decided she would try one too. We just ordered one for the 3 of us and SIL got one as well.

PA270201.jpg

We ALL LOVED it!!!!! It was so good and refreshing! I would definitely recommend trying one if you never have!

DSCN0205.jpg

After our snack we took a trip to the jungle:

PA270202.jpg

SIL enjoyed the corny jokes; to me this ride is a Magic Kingdom must! Then we rode Magic Carpets of Aladdin:

PA270204.jpg

PA270205.jpg

Then it was time to visit Jack Sparrow: Yo ho, Yo ho, a pirate’s life for me!

DSCN0206.jpg

Maddie has always been a bit scared of Pirates of the Caribbean, but she was a trooper and rode it. She still didn’t love it, but she at least didn’t have her head buried in my arm the whole ride this time. After Pirates, we started to head for Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. As we were walking, it was getting a little dark and felt very sticky. Doug thought it might not be a bad idea to take some shelter, so we sat at some tables under an overhang. I can’t remember exactly where we were – we were near a counter service place and we could see Splash Mountain. Anyway – it was a good decision because about a minute later it started to rain. It rained pretty hard, but only for 5 minutes or so and then it was done. That was our rain for pretty much the whole trip – 5 minutes that night at Epcot and this 5 minute shower – we were so lucky! Once the rain was done we proceeded to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. You may remember we tried to ride it our first park day, but it broke down while we were in line. So we hoped to have better luck this time. So far all of the rides we had ridden were walk on and BTMRR was no different! Maddie was a little skeptical, but decided to try it – so Tricia and Maddie and I headed up to the ride. Maddie ended up loving it and wanted to ride again – since it was a walk on we figured why not! So we went right back around and tried the other side this time. Twice was enough for Maddie but she really did love it! She said it was her favorite ride so far!

PA270207.jpg

Next we headed to Haunted Mansion, surprisingly; this too was a walk on!

DSCN0211.jpg

Maddie wanted no part of this ride. I had Doug and Tricia ride and I stayed back with Maddie. I was hoping to ride when they came out. While Doug and Tricia were riding, I ran into a doctor that works at the clinic that I work at who was also waiting for family to finish riding, so I chatted with her while waiting – small world! Tricia and Doug got done riding, but it was almost 7:00 and I wanted to get in line for pictures with Snow White, so I figured I’d try and ride later. Snow white and the 7 dwarves meet by Pooh’s Playful spot and during the party is the only time to get a picture with all of them together. Since Maddie was dressed as Snow White I really wanted to get that picture. We got up to Fantasyland and the line for Snow White stretched almost to the entrance to Toontown. I got in line and Doug went to get some water. The teacups had no line so Tricia and Maddie went for a ride on them. As I was waiting, a CM came by and said the characters would be out at 7:30. Well, where we were in line – it would be a half hour to 45 minutes once they started meeting, so there was no way I was going to waste that much party time to get a picture. So we headed to Tomorrowland and Rode BuzzLightYear. Doug and Tricia were in one car and Maddie and I were in the other. I really don’t know what I am doing on that ride, but I hit something and got a big score:

Don’t worry we saved her from Zurg!

Then we noticed that Monster’s Inc Laugh Floor had no line, so we headed in there. I think it was about 7:30 at this point and we were planning on doing the first parade. I figured we had enough time. The show was hilarious and we all loved it – but I forgot how long it is, when we got out it was 7:55. The previous two parties, we had good luck watching the parade from Liberty Square so we headed over there. We made it in time, but didn’t get great seats . We were on the edge of a path where people could cross that they were going to rope off once the parade started and I planned to move there when that happened, but of course two minutes before the parade starts a huge group walks up and takes that spot, we we were still behind a bunch of people. So the party had been going great, but we should have saved Monster’s Inc for later so we could have gotten better seats – oh well!

Before the parade started I gave Maddie some glow jewelry:

Pretty soon the lights were dimmed and the Headless Horseman flew by. Neither Tricia or I were able to get his picture since we were so far back – but that is just the coolest thing. Shortly after we heard the music coming and it was time for the “Boo to You Parade” the music for this parade is just so addictive and we just love it. Our pictures are just ok, because of the lighting and how far back we were but a few turned out ok.

We all really enjoyed the parade and once it was done we just kind of flowed with the crowd down to the hub. We discovered in 2007 that this was a good spot to see both the Villain’s Mix and Mingle and Hallowishes, so we set up there.

PA270234.jpg

Doug and Tricia headed to Casey’s to get some hotdogs because we were all hungry. We enjoyed the Villain’s show and were waiting for the fireworks, about 10 minutes before they are going to start, Maddie says she REALLY has to go to the bathroom. So she and I sprint to the bathrooms behind Crystal Palace and sprint back to our spot. Whew – we had about 2 minutes to spare! The fireworks were awesome as usual. When the fireworks were done, Maddie decided she was done with her hair and nothing was going to change her mind. I couldn’t really blame her, it was pretty warm and humid so it was sticky and a bit itchy I think. So I took it out, but because of the gel her hair looked kind of silly – good thing it was dark! So we headed back to Tomorrowland and boogied a bit with Stitch and friends.

PA270236.jpg

PA270237.jpg

Then we headed to Alice’s trick or treating trail. I now realize I didn’t talk about any trick or treating before this. We did stop at stations as we were walking around and now we walked the big Alice trail between Toontown and Tomorrowland. When we went in ’07 – the Alice characters were just along the trail, but this time they were in a separate line – which was long – so we skipped the pictures and just trick or treated. I think when we did this trail in ’07 it was closer to the end of the party, so that could have been why the characters were along the trail then? I had thought maybe we could catch the second parade with better seats since it was usually a bit less popular, but it was apparent when we got finished with the Alice trail, that Maddie was done – making the rest of us done as well. This again, is where I had wished I had left enough time for her to nap that day. In ’07 she had a good nap the day of the party and was still raring to go at midnight – this time it was 10:30 and she was done in. So we slowly made our way out of the park along Main Street and were able to see the Headless Horseman again and this time I sort of got a picture:

PA270238.jpg

We headed to the bus stop and *just* missed the Pop bus, so we were first in line for the second bus. The nice thing on these party nights is they send out tons of buses so another one came shortly after. Maddie fell asleep on the bus and slept the whole ride back to Pop. We were back to Pop by about 11:15 and we all turned in for the night. All in all, it was a fun night –I had hoped to have a bit better seats for the parade and had thought we’d stay until the party ended – but because we were able to ride so many rides before the party started I felt we had gotten a lot done and was fine leaving a bit earlier.

Up next – Epcot in the heat and tiredness means drama! :scared1:
