Our Halloween Pop adventure trip report 10/25-11/1/09 Animal Kingdom #3 6/28 pg.19

Well, I have my pictures from 10/28 uploaded now, so I will work on my next update tomorrow and hopefully get it up :surfweb:

Woohoo! I can't wait. It felt so good to get an update up - everyone else was being productive, and I fell off the face of the earth.

I last left off with us returning to the room after the Halloween Party. We had gotten to bed around 11:30, so we had no plans for the next morning. My itinerary had us going to Epcot’s World showcase in the late morning, early afternoon and staying there into the evening and then taking the Monorail over to MK, then to the Contemporary for dinner at Chef Mickey’s. Our ADR was for 7:30. Let’s see how we made out.

We woke up around 8:00am, but we just laid around, watched TV and had cereal in the room. We finally got moving around 9:30. We washed Maddie’s hair since it still had all the gel in it from the BBB the night before – she and Doug were heading to the pool to do some swimming, but I didn’t know what the chlorine and gel would do, so I wanted to get it out. So after her shower, they headed for the pool and I took my time, enjoyed the quiet and got ready. I think Tricia went and hung out at the pool with them, or maybe browsed Everything Pop – I’m not sure. She is a morning person, so she was generally up, ready and had coffee before we were even up on these late starts. That’s one reason she got her own room – that way we could all go at our own pace and everyone was happy. Doug and Maddie came back to the room around 11:00 and they finished getting ready. And then it was time to head for Epcot. I noted that the bus came pretty fast and that we arrived at Epcot around noon. As we walked in we saw Daisy greeting guests, so I handed Doug the camera. He, Maddie and Tricia met with Daisy and I headed to get Soaring fast passes.

I was successful in getting fast passes for Soaring and Doug, Tricia and Maddie were done with Daisy, so we headed towards World Showcase. First we had a detour into Mouse gears. I didn’t note what we bought, but I’m pretty sure Maddie purchased a few goodies there. Once we crossed into World Showcase we headed towards Canada. As we were walking we noted how hot and stuffy it was - there was absolutely no breeze at all and it was pretty humid – and it was sunny. We had had a pretty cold October in Wisconsin, so while the warm weather was welcomed, we weren’t used to it anymore – so it was hitting us harder than we expected it to. Doug had been looking forward to our World Showcase time because the Food and Wine Festival was going on and he loves food! So he and Tricia stopped off at the Greece food stand and got something to eat.

Nothing struck me on the menu, so I headed into Canada with Maddie to do the kidcot station.

While Maddie was making her mask, Tricia and I took some pictures of Canada – so pretty!

Once Maddie was done with her mask, we moved on into England. As you can see from the above pictures, Maddie was in her Alice dress today. I had gotten the authentic Disney Park Alice dress off of Ebay last year because she wanted to be Alice for Halloween that year (2008):

Pa310158.jpg

She fell in love with the dress during our trip in 2007, but at the time she didn’t even really know who Alice was, so I wasn’t going to spend that much on a dress. In 2008 when she had seen the movie, read books and still remembered the dress a year later, I found the dress on Ebay (for less than I would have paid in the parks) and ordered it for her. I had ordered it big enough that it still fit, so we took it along and wore it that day knowing that Alice meets in England. I also had her headband and shoes stowed in the stroller. So we headed to England where I planned to ask what time Alice would be meeting and get something to eat for Maddie. As we walked in – who do we see walking across the street for the toy store – but Mary Poppins! I knew she and Alice usually met at the same time, so we rushed to get on the shoes and headband and headed for the Toy store. Sure enough Alice was trying to find her way into the store. So, as excited as Maddie was to meet Alice, she’s hot, a little tired and hungry – so she started to feel a bit shy as we got closer. While we were in line, Pooh and Tigger showed up to meet as well – but we had met them at Crystal Palace already so we weren’t going to get in that line. Tricia met with Mary and Alice first, since Maddie was feeling a little shy:

DSCN0250.jpg

DSCN0251.jpg

When it was our turn Mary Poppins and Alice tried to engage Maddie into conversation:

PA280249.jpg

PA280250.jpg

Maddie wasn’t talking back so Alice and Mary decided that Ursula the Sea Witch must have stolen Maddie’s voice, like she stole Ariel’s voice. So then they tried to remember how Ariel got her voice back and it came to them that Ariel had to kiss a prince. There were no princes around – but Tigger was – so they asked Tigger if he would be Maddie’s prince:

PA280251.jpg

Tigger was happy to oblige. As I watched Maddie, in her hot, tired and hungry state, I could tell she wasn’t entirely thrilled with this turn of events. She’s getting to be in that age where she can get embarrassed easily , and I could tell that’s what was happening with this conversation. But she was a trooper and posed nicely when Alice showed her how :

PA280252.jpg

PA2802522.jpg

And then she moved on to Mary:

PA280253.jpg

PA2802532.jpg

As we left Pooh was wondering around the store because Mary and Alice were getting all the attention, so Tricia got another picture with her fave:

DSCN0256.jpg

So we left the store and Maddie’s eyes were starting to fill with tears, I tried to get her to talk to me, but she didn’t want to talk about it – she wanted to change! I had brought extra clothes along in case she got too hot, so we headed to the bathroom. Doug had been waiting outside the toy store with the stroller and was a bit confused when Maddie came out upset. I tried to explain what happened, but Maddie didn’t want me to tell! So I went off to the restroom with her first. Then she didn’t like what I had brought along for her to change into (the teenage years are going to be so much fun!) so we just changed her shoes back into her crocs and left the dress on. So yet, another moment that I had planned didn’t go quite as I had hoped. She still holds a bit of a grudge towards Mary and Alice – she even brought it up this morning, that I thought it was funny. I explained to her that it was cute and they were just trying to be friendly and funny, but it was ok if she didn’t find it funny. I think she’s coming around a bit because she smiled. Back to that day, we came out of the bathroom, both a bit frustrated and cranky. Poor Doug! Anyway, Doug, Maddie and Tricia got in line for some fish and chips from England.

DSCN0260.jpg

(You can see what kind of mood Maddie is in)

I am not a fan of fish, so I got us a table and tried to get my good mood back. They came back with the food and Maddie just plowed her fish down, but was nice enough to share some chips with me.

DSCN0261.jpg

PA280254.jpg

So after some food and water, Maddie’s mood improved immensely – making my mood improve as well. I have a feeling if Maddie had eaten before she met with Alice and Mary – the situation would have turned out much differently! After all that planning to wear the dress on the right day and haul the accessories along, Maddie ended up in a sour mood, the pictures are a bit blurry and I didn’t even get the shoes in any of the pictures! Murphy’s Law alive and well!

Back to the report, Tricia has been to London twice and loves it, so she really enjoyed the England area:

Up next: better moods (for awhile anyway) and the rest of the world (sort of)

Now in better moods, we made our way over to France, we just missed Marie, but they told us she would be back soon. So we kept walking to Japan. The candy lady was just finishing her show (seemed to be the current theme):

PA280257.jpg

PA280258.jpg

We explored Japan for a bit:

We then headed to Morocco – I was still hadn’t found anything to eat and I was getting pretty hungry. Thankfully in Morocco I found something that sounded good. I got a beef pocket from the Food and Wine vendor. It must have been good because I ate it fast and forgot to take a picture. We then headed towards America. We were really starting to feel the heat at this point, so we stopped to rest in the back courtyard area of America. Maddie and I got some ice cream:

DSCN0265.jpg

We had some fun looking around because there were little geckos everywhere!
DSCN0264.jpg

While we were resting, Doug and Tricia started talking about going back to Pop because they were hot and tired. I was hot and tired too, but my plan said to stay at Epcot until it was time to leave for dinner. We weren’t going to be back at World Showcase the rest of the trip, so I had hoped to get through it that day. We had seen some of it the first night when we had dinner in Germany, but we really didn’t stop anywhere and do anything because we had our ADR to get to. But I thought all this in my head and didn’t say it out loud because I knew it was a bit irrational. It was really hot and muggy and everyone would probably be miserable at our dinner if we stayed at Epcot another 3 hours until it was time to leave for our ADR. So I agreed to head back towards France (Maddie wanted to see Marie) inwardly annoyed. As we were walking I gave myself a pep talk in my head and decided I need to relax and go with the flow! So we got back to France and I got myself one of these:
PA280259.jpg

And all was right with the world once again!

Maddie met up with Marie (Doug got to be the photographer, since I was busy with my Grand marnier/Grey goose slush):

PA280260.jpg

PA280261.jpg

After she was done with Marie, we spotted Aurora, so we headed over there. I’m not sure what they talked about, but Maddie and Aurora had quite the conversation:

Tricia met with her too:

On our way out of World Showcase I made the purchase that may have saved the vacation:

PA280270.jpg

These are expensive, but Maddie didn’t complain about the heat the rest of the trip! Worth every penny!

Up next: fun with friends and flying high!

Yea! An update!

It stinks that you had to miss a lot of WS, but you are a wise mommy! It is definitely best to go at the kiddos' pace. Air conditioning, naps and swimming pools do great things to cranky tempers!

We were really starting to feel the heat at this point, so... Maddie and I got some ice cream:

I was saying to myself, "Ahh, now that looks so refreshing..."

...and then I saw this!!! :rotfl:

So sorry that Maddie caught up with Alice and Mary at the wrong time... who can predict the moods of little girls?? :confused3 Big Girl Tricia looks as if she's having a good time, though.

(I'm putting that orange slushie on my "to do" list!!!)

Reading about your experience with the October heat makes me think that a trip in August would just be crazy. :scared: I'm glad I changed it to February.

I know all to well how hard it is to tear yourself away, especially when you aren't planning to come back to that park.

Kathy

Wow, that was a great update!

That slushie looks sooo good and Maddie's Alice dress is adorable.

Sounds like overall, the day was good! I'm sorry she was a little cranky, but you both were able to cheer up pretty fast (who can stay mad in Disney?)

When we went to America, there were geckos everywhere too! I feel like I have a picture that looks exactly like yours. :rotfl:

Little girls can be so unpredictable...and so can husbands! How neat that you got to meet Marie though. maybe some day we will run into her.

I think Marie is a regular in France now! I was very excited to see her for the first time in October. I can't wait for the kids to get to meet her!

That slush was goooooood! :cool2:

Yeah, after a few moments I realized I was being silly to get upset :rolleyes1

Definately put the slush on your list - very worth it! :thumbsup2 And I knew all my Dis friends would understand my 'We're veering from the plan" moment ;)

I bet a lot of people have that picture :rotfl: And yes - the rest of the day was quite nice :cloud9:

Marie is out on a schedule now, so that is nice because she is so cute! Maddie was the most unpredictable she had ever been on this trip :confused3

On Wednesday I took Maddie to Disney on Ice. It's theme was "Princess Classics" so it was right up Maddie's alley. We were in the 3rd Row so I tried taking some pictures. The lighting is not great and I don't have a fancy camera, so they are only ok - but I'll share anyway :thumbsup2

Maddie before the show started:

Great pictures from the show! My sister and I were going to go when it was here last weekend but never did. :sad2: Looks like you had fun!

That looks wonderful. We went and saw Nemo on Ice a bit ago. It was nice too, but I would rather see the princess one. I hope they eventually make it my way. So far they are not scheduled to.

Love the update! Sorry Alice and Maddie didn't turn out the way you wanted it to I know how it feels when you plan on something and it doesn't work out.
Can't wait to hear more:)
