Our poor guinea pig is really ill. We noticed she had gone off her food over the weekend. I took her to the vets last night and they gave her 3 jabs and a food suppliment for us to give her. I noticed this afternoon she is also passing blood so i don't think it looks too promising for her, we have to take her back tonight.

:wizard: Oh poor little mite-hope she is ok-i will keep my fingers crossed:wizard: .x.

Lots of pixie dust coming your way little guinea. :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:

Oh no :wizard: :wizard: sending lots of PD to your little Guinea

Our female guinea pigs have in the past sometimes been troubled with cystitis. I have often given them the medicine that you can buy over the counter at chemists - obviously in smaller amounts. Sometimes it works and other times it hasn't but it may be worth a try. I have even syringed cranberry juice into them!

Good luck and i hope she makes a full recovery. ...I adore guinea pigs

We have been to the vets again and they are treating her for cystitis she is on antibiotics and this liquid food. Some one suggested beetroot and cucumber to encourage her to eat she has eaten a couple of pieces. its just perseverence with the eating now i think and hope she hasn't gone too far. Thanks for all the pixie dust fingers crossed it works.

I hope she feels better soon and that the antibiotics do their job

I know it can be really upsetting trying to syringe feed but it's really important that they have food as they have such a high metabolism.
Did the vet also give you some probiotics?

Try her out with some fresh parsley to see whether it'll stimulate her appetite. I haven't known a guinea who doesn't love it!

Please let us know how she's getting on

Hope she feels better soon :wizard:

Fingers crossed that she gets better soonpixiedust:

Glad it was nothing more serious, and hope she gets well soon.
My cat has cystitis problems all the time, from an illness he had years ago+it does'nt usually take to long for it to start clearing up with anti-biotics.(apparantly male cats are more prone to cystitis than females).x.

We have taken her to the vets again today and he is pleased with her so thanks for the pixie dust everyone it has worked:goodvibes
