Our Disney Store is closing

I apparently am the only person who thinks SO??? I went in a few times. Sorry, but if you don't have a little kids or want to wear "teeny tiny T's" then what is there to buy?

Thank you Carol. We feel exactly the same way. We used to LOVE the Disney Stores! I used to literally spend a couple of hours in the store when I visited. I was friendly with many cast members. The cast members used to each keep a notebook of special guests and their collecting interests. They would hold new items backstage for me if they thought it was something I'd be interested in and they would call me to let me know what it was. If I wanted it, they'd hold it for me rather than putting it out for sale.

The stores used to sell all kinds of merchandise, collectibles, better jewelry, watches, etc. Now pretty much all they sell is kid's clothing and cheap toys. I'm actually surprised the chain has lasted as long as it did. And once they started remodeling the stores and making them cold and stark, rather than colorful and whimsical filled with character displays, I totally lost interest.

Maybe Disney taking back control will be a good thing. Bring back Disney decor. Bring back collectibles. Bring back adult clothing and jewelry. Bring back adult books. And just maybe you'll bring back your most loyal customer base. I used to spend thousands in the Disney Stores. Now, I usually pass right by at the mall. There is really no point to even enter the store because I know they don't have anything worth buying.

I agree about the oversaturation in PA...but now there won't be any stores in Central PA. All but one of the stores left will be in the Philadelphia/5 county area. I will have to travel over an hour to get to the nearest Disney store. And that is something I am just not willing to do. I hope you are right about the Rockvale Outlet store. I feel sorry for anyone that lives in the western portion of PA, cause they are out of luck.

Good luck with your move!

Yep, we're SOL!

It's funny living here in Pittsburgh. Seems like everyone on the planet seems to think Pennsylvania=Philadelphia, except when mentioning the Steelers. Everyone seems to forget we exist (retail/dining wise).

I'm so glad to hear that SHV is staying open! I am right in the middle of SHV and Century III (South Park resident here!) but I really prefer SHV. It is sad to see that all those people will be losing their jobs. Sadly, the won't be the last in the world of retail :sad1:

Anyone been to Century III lately to see if a liquidation has stared there yet?

:sad2: Now what am I going to use to blackmail the kids into being good at the mall? "If you behave we'll go to the Disney Store." So sad, all of the stores around me are closing.

The South Hills Village store in Pittsburgh is staying open. They said they will be the only store in the Pittsburgh area left.

It's true about the South Hills Village Disney Store - it will be the only Pittsburgh area Disney Store to stay open. This was confirmed to me by the personnel at the Mall at Robinson on Friday. Very sad for all of the folks losing their jobs. The Cast Members at the Robinson store were great. I believe Robinson is going to be open for 4-6 more weeks.

:worship: :worship:

I can WALK to this store! I live on Casswell Drive in Bethel Park!! It's literally "OVER THE HILL"!!!

:rotfl2: :cool1: :rotfl:

I'm with you! But it was the place I got my Disney Dollars, so that part of the closing upsets me. I would buy them with cash, so it was a great way to save money for my trip (I would put money aside everytime I brought lunch/breakfast to work, then turn the cash into DD). Now I will have to get Disney gift cards thru the mail.

Michigan Stores:

Wow, they're closing 2 DS's at the 2 biggest malls in the Detroit area. The only 1 in Flint is closing. I 2 malls in the Detroit area are HUGE volume malls (from my days of working at Bath & Body Works), and are in very nice areas and the 2 best malls in the state. I can't imagine that Disney Store would be much different in volume. I am completely shocked they closed them both.

That leaves only 2 that I know of within a 4 county area, and those 2 are an hour away from each other (and 1 of them isn't even at that good of a mall). Hopefully they'll reopen new stores at some of the malls they're closing.

Great Lakes Crossing has a pretty nice store, I didn't see it on the list, as well as Lakeside Mall. I know they're quite a drive from where you are, they're a drive for me & I'm in Grosse Pointe, but hey. There's always disneystore.com! I do love the Somerset store, though. We just stocked up there last weekend and didn't see any signs or hear anything while we were there.

Yet another nail in Michigan's economy, huh? More people out of work. :scared:

Great Lakes Crossing has a Disney Store? How did I not know that? I have always gone to the Lakeside store. I love it. It looks like it is staying. I certainly hope so. That's closer to my neck of the woods than GLC is.

Apparently they opened it right around Christmas, (on the same hall as Carter's and Justice) and now they are going to close. We left with bags full a few weeks back. I guess we'll have to go again soon before they close!

So, the Outlet Store is staying open? What about Quakerbridge? Cherry Hill? Deptford? Oxford Valley?

I live in South Jersey and am within 30 minutes driving distance of at least these 5 Disney Stores and I love them all? Are they staying???

Yes, the Jackson Outlet store is staying open. Quakerbridge is closing. I think the others are staying open, but you will have to call them to confirm.

My understanding is southland, fairlane, I think laurel park place are staying open. I would suspect the closing ones are due to high rent.

Denise in MI

I live in Pittsburgh too. It seems as though Monroeville is not on the list. It's quite a drive. I'm so upset about this. My son (4) is so into Power Rangers since we got to meet them in DW in Feb. We have lost so many stores around here lately, there's going to be nothing left.

Don't get too excited yet. There is no guarantee that South Hills Village will stay open. They have 200 some days for Disney to make a decision on whether they will stay open for good.

Monroville closed years ago that's why they are not on the list.

I am confused about the list. So does it mean that all of the Disney stores in central PA are closing? Harrisburg, Lancaster, Hershey outlet???

Where am I going to shop????
Guess the only place will be in WDW.

I went by the Century III store the other day. They already have the liquidation signs up. Right now everything is only 10 - 30% off. Really no good deals. I'll check next week to see where they are then. I don't need a darn thing but might pick up a few things for our August trip if they are a good deal.
