Last year my husband and I got the same bright idea..but we had a super tight budget..we bought our above ground pool 18x33 oval off Craigslist for $750. It was a beautiful pool in great shape (only a couple years old) with a full aluminum deck all the way around. The catch we had to take it down and put it back up. This is the perfect time of year to do it, because people that have not opened their pools yet don't want to deal with them. My husband and I are not in the pool business nor are we really handy but we totally disassembled it and reassembled it. It took us about 3 weekends start to finish. My brother is in construction and can drive/work a backhoe or what ever they are called and can use a transit. That was a life saver. Our pool is partially in the ground like you have showed in previous posts. I don't have a picture of it on my computer but it turned out great.
Youtube was our friend.. Walked us step by step in installation.
Overall cost..
$750 pool, deck, pump, sand filter, handicapped steps, synthetic cove and even the deck box to house the pool supplies
$300 for a new liner
$125 for a new pump (the one that came with it was on its way out)
$350 for the rental of heavy equipment
$100 in pavers to support the frame in the ground
$125 for the sand under the pool liner.
$100 for the permit
$200 for an electrician to wire and ground the pool
$2050 and that does not include the water (honestly I am not sure the price for that)
There are a lot of hidden costs with installing a pool so keep that in mind.. But honestly I love our pool. I am so glad we did it.
Good luck!!
