Hello all,

My mom is turning 50 :scared1: this year and I'd like to give her 50 of something...I just don't know what. It doesn't have to be really cheap but it can't be really expensive either. I would prefer it be something that she can use or find useful. I just can't come up with any good ideas and her birthday is next week. Please help! Thanks!! :thumbsup2

If you have a fun-loving relationship with your mom...you can buy her 50 pairs of underwear or socks. Everyone needs them! You can also get 50 votive or tea-light candles. Hope that helps!

well does she have any hobbies, or things she loves to do? That would be the best place to start, hard for me not knowing your Mom or your budget,
but here are a few ideas of '50' things:

50 nail polishes in a basket with other manicure 'stuff'
50 paperback books (used book stores!)
flavors of teabags
50 pictures of her thru the years in a photo album
50 scented votive candles
50 charms on a charm bracelet
gift card for 50 coffees from starbucks or dunkin donuts
50 weeks of you cooking dinner for her once a week
50 postage stamps (and nice stationary for her to use with them)
$50 gift certificate for a spa, restaurant, or her favorite store

What is her favorite drink? Maybe 50 gourmet tea bags, or 50 specialty bottles of beer or wine (she could have one a week for about the next year). Or those little travel sizes of shower gel or bath salts? Good luck and let us know what you end up doing :)

50 pics of family (loving present)

50 cans of food (very funny present)

50 magazines

I did this for DH's 40th, but my family helped and we got all different kinds of things. Sodas, beer, magazines, post it notes, tomato plant, batteries, shirts, belts, cheese cake, pimento cheese spread, books. Sorry I can't remember any more.

Scratch off lotto tickets... I would be in heaven. Of course I got a few years to go til I hit 50$ but I would be happy with that.

THANK YOU for the very quick responses so far. Here are some answers to the questions posed:

She has no hobbies. She goes to work, comes home, takes a nap or watches TV, makes dinner (sometimes) for her and her daughter, watches TV until she goes to bed. We try to get her involved in some stuff we do, but extra effort is not high on the list.

What is her favorite drink?-----Unfortunately she only drinks water (no coffee, tea, pop, or alcohol), so some of these ideas won't work.

those little travel sizes of shower gel or bath salts---possibly

50 nail polishes in a basket with other manicure 'stuff'---she doesn't wear makeup

50 paperback books (used book stores!)---she doesn't read anything except gossip mags :p

50 pictures of her thru the years in a photo album---possibly, it might be hard to find that many pictures of her, though.

50 scented votive candles---doesn't burn candles (Allergies)

50 charms on a charm bracelet---doesn't wear jewelry

50 weeks of you cooking dinner for her once a week---pretty good idea

50 postage stamps (and nice stationary for her to use with them)---good idea, but she has no one to write to; all of her relatives live in this same town

$50 gift certificate for a spa, restaurant, or her favorite store---maybe....

I know the answer to this question is staring me in the face....I just can't see it....

50 $5 bills or
50 $1 bills

then she can get what she wants.

$50 gas card or commuter train ticket (however she gets to work)

50 umbrellas!

Sorry, may sound like a weird idea but we've had a ton of rain here and I've lost about 20 (literally) in the past 2 months!

based on your description...

50 pairs of pj's? check super clearance at kohls or tj maxx
50 pre-paid pay per view movies, or 50 movie rentals.
50 GC for out to eat
$50 in Schwan's so she can have quick meals to make
a $50 Gift subscription to her favorite gossip magazine
i love the idea of the lotto tickets

OMG 50 pairs of PJ's?? I'd be in heaven!! Sounds VERY expensive though..

In addition to what you do give her - buy a poster board - and glue 50 hugs and kisses candy on it!!!

Have you seen the poster board poem, where you include the candy (instead of words?)

Poem!

They say when you reach the age of _____ you tend to become a bit of a SLOWPOKE and always say things like where's my WHATCHMACALLIT? They say you develop BUTTERFINGERS. However, the SNICKERS you hear are sheer envy. We know what a SMARTEE you are. You always know the SKOR and could be anyone's SUGARBABY. We know you are CAREFREE enough to do the CHARLESTON and yet be a LIFESAVER to those who need you. If we had 100GRAND we would take you on a shopping SPREE to 5th AVE or to the SMYPHONY or on a spaceship to MARS or the MILKYWAY! But when PAYDAY is over and our balance is at ZERO, we hope you'll be spending an evening of CHUCKLES with friends and family who are NUTS about you and GOOD & PLENTY just the same. For A CRACKER JACK person who's EXTRA special. With MOUNDS of love, hugs & KISSES!

I wonder tho, if there arent any clubs you could interest her in? I'm nearly 50, and I know it is hard - but a gym membership, bowling league, local business group - Lion's club, something to get her with people?

I am close to your moms age and I have to tell you if anyone got me 50 of anything I had to store, I wouldn't be too happy. Where in the world would you put 50 umbrellas????

We have done 50 silver dollars and 50 gold dollars before. The gold dollars were taped to a small tree branch painted gold and they called it a dollar tree. It was really cute. The silver dollars could be done the sameway, just cheaper to do!

We like to look for things that are the same age...some things turning 50 this year are NASA, the Chevy Impala, and LEGOs. Not that you should get her a car! But maybe something related...

For my mom's 50th, everyone got together and got 50 gifts, and each gift was 50 - 50 Kleenex, 50 stamps, 50 envelopes, 50 pens, 50 q-tips, 50 tiny soaps (from hotels), 50 quarters, you get the picture.

For my BILs 40th birthday, DH, the kids, and I bought plain notecards and made him 40 birthday cards with funny sayings on each one (such as "I'm too sexy for my hair, that's why it isn't there!") - we mailed each one separately, so he got 40 cards on the same day. He thought it was funny! Not useful though, just funny!

50 Hershey's kisses or hugs & kisses - put them in a nice vase or silver box or something (can be purchased at places like TJ Maxx or Marshall's very reasonably.)

50 dollar pieces

How about surprising her with fifty balloons and having a little surprise party? I bet she would love it, my dh family did this for one of their aunts on her 50th birthday and she LOVED it! Especially the pictures with all the balloons around everyone!!:)

For my mom's 50th birthday, I planned her a special day. I took her on a sort of a surprise scavenger hunt. There were 5 stops (1 for each decade of her life). At the beginning I gave her a tiara to wear and a button that said, "it my birthday". I was her chauffeur for the day. At each stop, I'd give her a clue to the next location. Stop 1, she got her first-ever manicure/pedicure. Stop 2, she had lunch with her best friend. Stop 3, she went to a movie with another best friend. Stop 4, a 1 hour massage (a first for my mom). Stop 5, a party with all her friends and family. She was totally suprised by each leg of the game.

In the 5th grade, I learned how to make an origami flower. So, for a gift for her, I made her 50 origami flowers. I put them on pipe cleaners and put them in a vase-they made a beautiful centerpiece at the party. But that's not all. You see, I had my dad, 2 brothers, sister and myself write a special memory or message on the underside of the origami paper (10 a piece, for a total of 50) before I folded the flowers. So for 50 days, my mom would unfold a flower and read the special message inside. She loved this most of all. And has saved each origami paper in her room.

It was a most special birthday for my mom. :)
