I'm making homemade stuffing for the first time, and I'm making a cranberry stuffing recipe. It calls for 1 cup of butter, which I think seems a little excessive. I was wondering if I could do part butter and part canned chicken broth? Any suggestions on how much of each to use?

Thanks!

I do not use any butter in my stuffing just broth.

I use just enough butter to saute the onions and celery(and whatever veggies you are using). And then use stock/broth for the rest. You don't want it to be too soggy or "greasy" from too much butter. I like the AllRecipes web site because people always post reviews of each recipe with changes/suggestions that work for them. Good luck!

I do two recipes. One uses the butter and one uses broth. There IS a difference in texture and taste.

I also only use enough butter to saute the veggies. I then use about 1C of the broth I cook the "innards" with and 1C of milk.

I don't use any butter in my dressing -- I use cook sausage and then use the drippings from that to cook my onion and mushrooms. I use chicken broth for the rest of the liquid.

It might taste *different* to use chicken broth, but that doesn't mean it will taste bad :) I can't imagine a stuffing with 1 cup butter. It's not one I would enjoy.

Mine uses quite a bit of butter and even more chicken broth....but then I'm a lover of butter LOL
