OT please help with 4 DS's Excema

Not to hijack your post, but I was wondering if anyone has had any luck with something that helps eczema around the eyes? My poor DD has red, scaly, dry rings around her eyes....she looks awful. We've tried Desonate, Lanisoh, Elidil, and another topical steroid from the derm with no improvement.

We're in the process of allergy testing, and I'm guessing we are going to have to start some sort of elimination diet which might help, but for now, I just want something that will help.

Thanks!

I saw a very positive post about this product on a parenting message board (yes, I cheat on the DIS by visiting another message board:surfweb:). The mom said that prescription creams, cortisone creams & baby lotions were not working so she tried this and it cleared up within a few days. Good luck!

This will not help you with the cause of the eczema but the only thing that has helped our son clear up his eczema is Cerave cream that we got at Walgreens. We tried many products and none of them worked. We are also still trying to figure out what his triggers are but when he has a flare up this cream works wonders.

Do you know what type of exzema your ds has? Our dd2 has exzema but w/o a proper diagnosis she would still be itching herself crazy. Her eczema left her with white patches where the pigment actually was removed from the skin in patches. Hers was brought on by a MRSA infection. She is now in remission and we are just doing maintanence/prevention. We wash all clothes in dreft or woolite free. She baths in lukewarm not hot water and we use eucerin, cetaphyl and aveeno products only. Our doctor gave us a really great piece of advice. Kids with eczema should be lotioned regularly, after bath, before bed, before dressing, etc. She calls it greasy baby!!! Eucerin in the tub that you scoop out with your fingers has worked the best for our DD for moisturizing. She also has a prescrip for protopic taht we use when she has a flare up. Did you know it takes 9-12 months after a flare up fades before yur childs skin heals itself? so every flare up sets the clock back another 9-12 months.

There are many factors that can bring on eczema. Food and enviromental allergies, infection, antibiotics, herditary.............

One thing that hasn't been mentioned on this thread yet is wet wrapping. Wet wrapping can really improve eczema. Here's how it's done: Give your DC a bath-- soak for at least 20 minutes. Use a mild cleanser if needed. Immediately after the bath, apply steroid cream to DC's flare-up areas and a moisturizer (vanicream, eucerin, etc) to the rest of DC. Then, place a pair of warm, damp, tight fitting pajamas on DC. Over the wet pj's, place a pair of warm cotton or fleece footed pj's. Let the child sleep like this over night (don't worry, they won't get cold!). Repeat for a week. Here's an article about wet wrapping: http://www.livingwithitch.org/articles/wetwrap/index.html

My children and I have it. It runs in my family. When we get out of the tub, we pat ourself dry, do not rub yourself dry, just pat, then head to toe we slather on the eucerin cream. My nephew has it really bad, the allergist found out it was due to dairy products. Ours isn't bad enough to go to the allergist, we just keep our cream on and we're usually fine.

I went to my family dr. and she gave me a prescription cream, which I use whenever I have flareups. It works quickly and I am not bothered anymore at all. I didn't have to change soaps or anything. I can give you the name of the cream she prescribed. My exema is stress related so I don't know if that makes a difference.

My 3 year old daughter gets so bad in the winter. We've tried many different lotions and the only thing we've found to help the itching part is the Aveeno Baby Soothing Relief Moisture Cream in the baby section. It says dry skin from eczema on it. We just wish they sold it in a bigger bottle. I make sure to lotion her up twice a day if I miss a day that's when you can tell. We've also done creamy vaseline which she says doesn't burn. Good luck, it's a sad road until you find that one thing that helps.
