I'm looking for a nice campground in Myrtle Beach. I have been looking at Ocean Lakes and Pirateland. Does anyone have experience camping at either of these or another one that is comparable to FW?

I can't help with those but we have stayed at the state campground as well as Myrtle Beach Travel Park. Nothing like FW though! Camping at Myrtle Beach seems crowded compared to there. The state park was wooded and a short walk over to the beach - general store, no pool, had comfort stations and laundry.
The Travel Park was wide open sunshine although they had these little huts to cover the picnic tables so you could get out of the sun. They had a pool, lake for fishing/paddle boats, store, kid's activities, and depending upon where they put you it could be a little walk to the beach or you could be right there at the dunes. I think they had a limited hours restaraunt as well.
We liked both for different reasons. Very easy to get to places to eat, mini golf, etc. from either one.
Sorry that didn't help with your 2 choices much - we had planned Ocean Lakes on short notice and they were booked up. If you go - let us know how it is!

10 years ago we stayed at Pirateland on the way back from FW and it definitely wasn't like FW at all but a very big campground, heated indoor pool and they seemed friendly. We were there in February and it was definitely off season, not many people there at all. I am sure that it has changed in ten years though.
Sorry not much help either.

Nothing is comparable to the Fort. But we did stay at Ocean Lakes last year and had a great time. More room than most of the other campgrounds. I have heard Myrtle Beach Travel Park is pretty nice as well.

Don't think you can go wrong with Ocean Lakes.

the best i have found is willowtree resort it's in longs sc. but close to everything.even have some on site hot tubs. good luck

We really like Pirate Land! We have stayed there several times and would love to go back!

We like Pirate land because the preferred sites have small pavilions. We really like the location. It has Ocean Lakes on one side and a state park on the other. We like to in October and there is no one on the beach at that time. There is a water way between Ocean Lakes and Pirate Land and the only time you can get down that end of the beach is at low tide. We enjoy the pool and Jacuzzi at night. I read where they have some sites that are paved. They are not as quite a nice as Fort Wilderness but Fort Wilderness isn't on the beach either!

Once we stayed in North Myrtle at Barefoot Landing and didn't like as much. There were condos on both sides and even in October there were lots of people on the beach. The sites were quite as nice either.

Pirate Land is our favorite place after Fort Wilderness!

Enjoy!

you will love pirateland, we stay there every year, you can't bet their lazy river, the campground is just beautiful, so many things to do. Rent a golf cart and see all of the campground, it's a BLAST.

We have stayed at most all of the campgrounds at MB. Have stayed at Pirateland twice and will never stay again. Many problems. Everyone around us was getting infested with roaches. They were coming out of the manholes. We couldn't take anything in the house when we got home for fear of carrying some in our house. Not a good thing. Our camper was brand new and we kept having problems with power surges. Fried our power plug. PL said tuff luck and said our camper was too large for the service. Wrote many camplaints and made several phone calls, with never a response. We like Ocean Lakes, on the south end and MB Travel Park on the north end.

We enjoy Ocean Lakes. We've been renting a friend's house there for years.
