We are bringing our 18 month old DD to a trial class at The Little Gym tomorrow. We have gone to Gymboree before, but decided to try out Little Gym now. Has anyone gone here? How was it? I really think our DD will ove it - she loves to run and play and I think a pre-gymnastics class will be great for her! I just don't know anyone who has ever been before!!

I don't think you'll find it very different from gymbo. (We enjoyed both.) When they get a bit older it's nice 'cause they have the games/activities, but they also have the real equipment.

We took my son when he was in K. He had been to gymbo and was fine with LG, but he mainly liked the "real" gymnastics part (not into the songs and such) so we switched him to a training center.

HTH

My dd is older (5) and takes gymnastics at the Little Gym. She loves it. She never went to Gymboree, so I can't compare the two. There are other parents of girls in her class who have younger ones in the parent/child classes and they are happy with Little Gym for those classes also.

We love LG, ds has been going since he was just 24 months. Gymboree was just not for us, perhaps as a very small child but not a toddler, it was way small, like an overfilled living room with wodden equipment. You will like it at lg lots of room to run, jump, explore, and have fun!

All three critters (DS3, DD2, DS2) go -- DS3 has been doing gymnastics of some sort for over 2 years now, and is pretty good at it. DD2 and DS2 are still in parent-assisted classes and aren't quite "with the program" yet in terms of following directions and the like, so I'm not as sure it's working for them, but they may just need more time.

Today is the day, so I will let everyone know how she does. I am not sure how well she will be at taking instructions just yet - she is only 18 months - but she is going to love running around!

Thanks for all your input!

I had a horrible experience with my "The Little Gym" in my town. It was a dance/gym class with 3 1/2 to 5 year olds and it started out great. The teacher left and it all went downhill from there. The other teachers couldn't control the girls -- they were walking all over them. My DD started picking up on some very bad habits like cutting in line (since that was the only way for her to get a turn) and not listening to the teacher (because no one else was) and going out of turn (because no one else was in turn, so she would be out too). I couldn't stand paying someone for my DD to pick up on all of those bad habits. I had it out with the owner of the place and got my money back. This was just my gym though. I hope yours is run by a better person.

I had DD & DS in Little GYm , my daughter was in it the longest from about a year to almost 6, now she is at a gymnastics school. I loved Little GYm & they BOTH loved it. It kept her very active for the hour & it had a great "routine" so the kids knew what to expect every week...bubbles, songs, parachute and it wasn't that "structured" -so after the "beginning" activities were done they went on what ever they wanted - the instructor would call them over once in a while to a certain piece & work with them on that and free time again, till the closing things. Good luck--both of mine loved it!!

My DS is 20 months old and we did a trial class of Little Gym. We have been going to Gymboree since he was 6 months old though so I did compare the two. I was not as impressed with the Little Gym. I think for my child it might be better when he is older as it is more gymnastics geared and he is not into that type of thing right now. I will definitely revisit it as he gets older but stick to Gymboree for now.

I hope y'all had a good experience today.

Both my kids go to LG. DS is 4 now and has been going since he was 15 months old. We started in the parent/child classes. He's now in the sports skills class and loves it. He often tells me he doesn't want to go to class, but when he comes out he's all smiles and has had a great time.

DD started at LG when she was 8 months old and couldn't even sit up. Now she's 21 months old and runs into the room as soon as the doors open. She loves climbing, swinging, jumping. She doesn't usually stay with the group for group time, but that's okay. She doesn't usually try the "skill of the week" but that's okay, too. The important thing is that she's having fun in a safe environment, and learning skills she probably wouldn't at home.

what does ds dd dg and all that stand for?

My DD's have been at the Little Gym since they were 2.... they are now 6 and 8! Currently they're in the intermediate gymnastics class. I'm actually very impressed with their instructor whom they've had for years-they really know their stuff :)

I don't think I would have cared for that at all either! Since the class last night was for younger kids, there really wasnt much standing in line or taking turns - but DD loved it!

She loved it, too! Most of the other kids knew the routine and were pretty good at it - others were running and playing. It was really fun and DD really seemed to enjoy it!

We did a Baby Signs class at Gymboree months ago and I didnt care for it at all. But we never tried anything else. My cousin's little boy goes there though and loves it!

I hope y'all had a good experience today.

My DD did what your DD does! She didnt stay with the group for group time for too long, but she is the youngest in that class. But she stood in the middle of the circle and danced for everyone! LOL!! We tried to do the skill of the week and she wanted no part of it. It was doing a somersualt and I think it scared her, so I just picked her up and let her run around! She really had a great time and loved playing with the balls and bubble at the end of the class. She didnt want to leave! We ended up getting a membership, so we will be going every week now!

what does ds dd dg and all that stand for?

DD=dear daughter
DS=dear son

Not sure about DG - havent seen that one.

We really liked her instructor last night, too. She seemed to be really good with the kids. But my DD seemed a little leary of her, because she doesnt care too much for adult strangers at the moment. Hopefully that will change since we signed up and she will see her every week now!

(same kids here).....BUT ALL 3 OF THEM LOVE IT........and I mean LOOOOOOOOOVE it!!!!!! DD fights with me to get into the gym the moment we arrive and is the last one to leave -- again fighting me all the way. DS(3) looks forward to gym days and is actually upset when Wednesdays come around and it's no longer his gym day (he went from a Funny Bug to a Giggle Worm this term and the class we signed him up for is Saturday) -- since he's been going on Wednesdays from the beginning.....

Take the trial class -- if it works, than great -- if not, no harm done!!!!!

Have fun with it!!!!!!
