OT I-phone 3gs camera

I have just gotten the i-phone 3 GS. I tried taking pictures last night on it for the first time. In the house with no flash is fine, but if the flash goes off, it ruins the picture. I tried taking some pictures of the Halloween kids, and none of them turned out. I have it on Auto flash. What am I doing wrong? Please help someone. Thanks.

3GS phones don't have a flash I think you mean 4 or 4s

As you can see, I know nothing about this. So if it is a 4 whatever, what am I doing wrong?

Do you have it in a case? I have to take off my cover, if I'm using flash. Otherwise, it distorts the flash and I get lines running through my photos.

That is what my daughter said and I took it off, but did not see a difference. I will try it again tonight after dark. Thanks.

Click on auto and turn off the flash.
