Ot: How Much did you spend on senior portraits for your child?

I spent about $750 on the sitting fee, proofs, and prints for my daughter's senior pictures. Compared to a lot of people I know around here (Indiana), I got off cheap.

I bought 2 8x10's, 6 5x7's, 5 3x5's, and probably 120-130 wallet-sized in eight different poses.

Because I spent over $700, they gave us a CD of all of the pictures taken, as well as a DVD with a slide show set to music of her pictures. I thought this was great, as all of her pictures were wonderful.

I forgot to add that we also got two cds of all the pictures. One was set to her favorite music in slide show format. These are two of my favorites:

Too funny...my DD had Jonas Brother pics too!!

Ok...sorry for all the pics :rolleyes1 ..but I am still amazed at how awesome this studio is. We have more with her cheerleading uniform, some with Ohio State stuff and a bunch more...it was so hard to decide.

Those JB pictures are great! That is an awesome photo shoot.

We went with a private photographer instead of the school one and I probably spent about $400-450.

These are GREAT.

Just a FYI to all- it is illegal to reproduce a photographer's photos without permission. (Many do not know, this includes posting them on the internet.) The images are copyrighted works. Ask, many professional photographers are starting to include an option to include low resolution pics (such as sharing on My Space, etc.) Some may also offer rights to copy photographs. Without that, however, you are breaking the law, disrespecting the photographer, and generally setting yourself up for some bad karma.

Without that though- copying photographs is theft. You don't have to agree with how much it costs for a reprint, but by chosing a photographer, you agree to those prices to cover his/her time, talents, and business expenses, in addition to just the paper that portrait is printed on.

You wouldn't go to the mall, decide prices are too expensive, and then shoplift things to get them cheaper. :confused3 If you need a less expensive option- as said, you can take them yourself, go to a chain studio, or find a student or someone starting up who is looking to build a porfolio at a discount to you.

I spent under $50.00 for my son's 3 years ago. I took them myself (not an expert but many shots and a good tutorial on editing helped).

I then ordered wallets and enlargements from mpix.com and was very pleased with the results.

We are planning on doing the same with my youngest in a few years.

.

Yep...and that's why I have the photographers permission to post them. Especially since they have the studio name on them for free advertising for them! :thumbsup2

For those PP's wondering how to post pics, you have to upload them to a photobucket account first. Then just link them here.

I spent $8.95 for a package at Target, got my choice of 6 poses, and got alot of photos!

For those out there who cannot afford the $400 for portraits on top of prom expenses, yearbooks, graduation fees, DO NOT get guilted into spending more than you can afford!

It's also a great way to get prom photos without paying crazy money. We brought the kids up to Target an hour before prom, there is no sitting fee. We had lots of portraits to share with family all for 8.95. At the prom, the photographer charged $20 for one 5x7.

Ok, I got my photobucket account. Now, these are the two pictures I took for my DD's senior picture. Do you have a preference?

My 2 sons didn't want anything fancy or special portrait sessions, so we went to Picture People at the mall, and they did a fantastic job. We only needed an 8x10 for us, and neither of the boys wanted many wallets. ( I guess boys don't pass them out to friends like girls do). Each of them was less than $70.

Just make sure you get the guidelines from the school regarding size, backgrounds, props, etc.

My DD is a senior this year. she was getting 75% off coupon offers from a local photographer and the base price was really affordable. I kept asking when she wanted to get her portraits taken and she just wasn't excited about it. At this point she is ready to be finished with school.

Her school offered regular school pictures, so we ordered those and added her name and ordered extra wallets for sharing. I stil have most of the wallets, but I'm sure we haven't passed them out to everyone we should have.

For the yearbook, we had to go to a specific studio. For a fee we could choose the image for the yearbook and buy the proofs. For now charge they take the shots and the photographer chooses. Money's tight and DD had no interest, we left it to the photographer.

I might take some shots of her this spring with my camera, to send out with graduation announcements.

$0.00 We don't do Senior Portraits at my dd's school and even better no prom....

To cut costs try to schedule your photo setting early between May and July. Buy only one of each pose that you want . Don't order wallets size , they are so expensive. Scan the photos you get , and download them to one of the online photo sites like Snapfish etc.. There you can get 4x6 size prints for pennies a piece. They are larger than the wallets and fit nicely into the graduation announcements. This way I sent a picture to everyone that I sent an announcement to, and it didn't cost an arm and a leg to do it.I did this last year for my daughter.

I don't think you're supposed to do this unless you have the rights to the pictures. :confused3

I'm glad my girls don't go to a school like that....Senior pics and prom's are way too much fun!!
