I am hoping you are allowed at least one dumb question a month on dis...if so here is mine:lmao:

Can my DS 2 & 1 eat too many grapes. Like the would eat a one lb bag a day if I let them. just was curious if anyone knew.

Also so it easier on me...can I pull them off the stem when I get them So the kids aren't waiting like forever for them to be pulled or will that make them go bad?

last dumb one I SWEAR...

I got a thing of grapes from Giant Sunday and they already have mold, I believe grapes so last a lot longer than that right? I had some left overs from a bag I bought on thursday and they are still good, plump, fresh but yet these new ones are bad already...maybe that's why they were .99 a lb. Can I return them or is that bad form?

Thank for allowing me to have a dumb question (post) for the month!:lmao:

I don't think kids that age should be eating grapes unless they are cut up. I hope you do cut them... Sorry. I'm just paranoid and I know grapes are a major choking hazard.

My two youngest ones love grapes. (They didn't like me to cut them, but they ate them anyway ;) ) I would suggest freezing them if you buy a lot and want to keep them from going bad. Freeze them individually on a cookie sheet-- you can cut in 1/2-- and then you can toss them all into a bag once they're frozen. My kids eat them like this all summer.

Also, I do pull some off the stem, rinse them, and put them into a container. They don't seem to go bad any faster, but I don't do all the grapes at once. Maybe have 1/2 or 1/3 of the bag ready to be eaten at a time.

of course they are cut up! :thumbsup2

thanks for your answer too :thumbsup2

If they got mold on them that quickly my guess would be that they were older. I think they should take them back as long as you have the receipt. But just to make sure you could call and ask.

I will tell you wht my peditrician told me once. My younger 2 DDs love bananas. When they were little they would grab the whole bunch of them and go hide and eat all of them. I would literally buy 2 bunches at a time, one I hid for the rest of the family and one knowing they would do this. I asked the doctor if this was a problem (too much of a good thing). He said as long as their tummys could handle it, it was fine. There were far worse things they could be "hiding" to eat. It never did bother their tummies so I would let them do it. I know some people may disagree, but they are both very healthy, both a very healthy weight. They eat balanced meals still and enjoy fruit very muc. We often have fruit as dessert at night.

Oh, ad we freeze grapes all the time. They are very refreshing in the summer, banana slices too!

See this is why I said this was my dumb question of the month :lmao: Duh I could TOTALLY call!

Thanks yeah my kids love their fruit! And it doesn't bother their tummies either. That is such a funny story about the bananas. It think, if I remember correctly grapes are the main reason we put a lock on the fridge :lmao:

Also WOOHOO I'm a DisVeteran now !!! :cool1:

At that age, I limited my son to a handful of grapes a day - just because I didn't particularly like the excitement it caused in diaper changing. :lmao: As a general rule, variety is good, and if they are eating a lot of one thing, they are eating less of something else. But it really isn't something I'd worry a lot about. And, yes, you can pull them off the stems and store them that way. I pluck all mine off and put them in a container in the fridge so we can grab handfuls.

I pick mine off all at once, give them a really good rinse in a colander and then store them in the fridge. I never even thought of freezing them, how amazing is that?! I am doing that!!! Safeway gas grapes 88 cents a pound this week, WOOHOO!!! LOL

PS-Just a note, I once went to my uncles house when I was about 7 and he had a cherry tree. Well, he had just picked a GIANT bowl of cherries and while we were there visiting, I ate about half of that bowl. I haven't touched a cherry since. LOL Same with my dad and cherries. BLECH!!! Even cherry flavored things make me gag. Maraschino cherries, cherry jelly beans, anything. HAHAHAHA

Yes, cherries are one of the things you can't overdue. I love them but you can quickly eat too many...

Funny grape story: When I was pregnant with DD #1 I developed gestational diabetes. They told me I could have 12 grapes and be within the ADA diet. :rotfl: 3 1/2 years later I was pregnant with DD #2 and had gestational diabetes. The nutritionist got really excited and told me that "There have been some exciting changes since the last time you were on this diet." I could in fact now have 15 grapes! :rotfl2: I was hoping for jelly beans personally. :lmao:

Let them eat grapes. :thumbsup2

FRuit is a staple in my house, always have lots of strawberries, blueberries, grapes, bananas...if it is a fruit we got it! I have always cut up frsh fruit with every meal for my daughter. I learned the hard way that fruit is like candy to a child's teeth. I have always taken my daughter to the dentist every six months. Last year I spent a little more than $500 AFTER insurance on a mouth full of cavities for my 6 year old. While fruits are very good for kids, make sure they brush often just as if they had a bag of pixie stix.

I would have taken the grapes back and also, not too far from you is Tanner's Farm, the grapes there have been excellent recently as well as their other fruit, much better than my local Giant.

My DS never became A hot dog so I think, you are ok;)

:thumbsup2 ... its easy to forget, especially when fruit is so good!!!
Did your dentist give her dental sealants? My nephew who had terrible cavities did well after sealants...his enamel was weak, so even natural sugars did all kinds of damage.

Just a note, that grapes are a natural laxative....but if you aren't having any problems with that, then I guess you are o.k.:rotfl2:
Grapes, also have a very high pesticide content, compared to some other fruits. I only know these things because my son, is a grape-a-holic as well. So, I decided to do a little research a couple of years ago.
