Anything just so i won't be thinking of what lovely food everyone else is having!

Argh, am a bit cheesed off. I've finally got round to asking about applying for leave from school for DD for the last 2 days of term. I kinda knew that it was gonna be turned down/unauthorised but I was hoping that they'd at least consider it, bearing in mind her attendance has always been 100% (esp this year!) and she had minimal absences in Reception and Yr 1 (2-3 days off sick at most, if any) .. and we have only ever had one unauthorised day way back in Feb 07 and that wasn't even our fault. We went to Mauritius during half-term (it was somehow quite a long half-term then) and we cldn't get on the flight back becoz of cyclones etc. So we were one day late. Anyway, spoke to the lady at the office and she downright told me that I can write in but it will definitely be unauthorised. I asked if there would be any consequences (fines etc) if we still went away and she said that she wld be down as a 'G', which means unauthorised and that they will then monitor her attendance after that. I have absolutely no worries about her attendance after that.

What's the point of me writing in then if it's gonna be unauthorised anyway? Argh. I think I'll just write in to tell them anyway. So annoying that those with good attendance have to be penalised for other idiots who take the mickey. It's not that ours is a regular occurence either. Arghhhhh !!!!

I assume Chili's is the restaurant chain - a quick google search will locate it if it's the one I think it is. Quite nice too - I've eaten in the Reading branch at least once

There was one walking distance from my campus in LA - loooved it! But then all food in the states is great! I could KILL a bbq chicken pizza from california pizza kitchen right now!

I know what you mean. I used to go beserk because some people never show up and don't get in trouble, but then the ones who do turn up regularly and have one or two days off get the worst punishments! It's totally unfair!

That's a shame. It's at the head teacher's discretion whether any leave is granted, even within the 10 day limit that you're allowed to request per school year.

Unfortunately, it seems the head at your DD's school chooses not to authorise holidays requested through this manner (completely with his/her rights, but still a little frustrating)

It's not like doing a bunk, having days of for holiday never effected me.

Can't do a sickie now that the office knows plus she'll be blabbing to all her friends about where she went. So not a good idea lol. I think I was just getting my hopes up coz friends from other schools have had theirs authorised without any problems (and for longer periods of time as well!).

Don't get me wrong about JB, the stunts were fab. Its just the story is poor in my opinion. I'm glad I went to see it, just won't be in a hurry to see it again.

Can't do a sickie now that the office knows plus she'll be blabbing to all her friends about where she went. So not a good idea lol. I think I was just getting my hopes up coz friends from other schools have had theirs authorised without any problems (and for longer periods of time as well!).

I think it's a little over-zealous to refuse to authorise any absence. The Head should use discretion rather than a blanket policy! Personally, I would just shrug it off and not lose too much sleep over it. Like you said, it would be different if your children were off routinely, but they're not!
