OT - Discount fares to Memphis?

This is off topic, but I need to get DH, DD and me to Memphis for a wedding in Dec. We usually fly out of BDL (HArtford) but in checking fares, I can't seem to find anything less than $400 PP. Sometimes Boston has some discounted fares, but they're not offered for weekend travel. Because it's school time, I really need to try and fly out Friday and back Sunday. I'm not opposed to "Creative booking" - right now I've seem some specials for BWI to MEM, that combined with a SWA - BDL-BWI - might work, was wondering if anyone is familiar with the Memphis market and might know possible cities that have discount fares to there. Then I can further explore whether a connection is possible or not.
Thanks

Fares in and out of Memphis seem to always be way too high. If you plan
on renting a car anyway I would fly into Nashville and drive to Memphis (About a 3 1/2 hour drive). Maybe another poster could give you a better option. Southwest from Providence to Nashville might be your best option.

Folks in Memphis drive to Little Rock and/or Nashville to get cheap fares..... It's a NW airline hub with very little competetion so the fares there are just high!

I just booked a June flight r/t MEM to MCO for $139 each r/t.

May 1st, 2007, NWA is increasing their direct flights to Orlando. I booked my flight about 2 weeks ago.

I'm in Little Rock, and it was cheapest to go to Memphis, so I'm driving there. It's about 2-1/2 hours LR to Memphis, straight shot through the delta region of Arkansas. Tiny little airport in LR. Easy to maneuver out of LR and straight to Memphis.

Check Frontier Airlines. They're increasing their regional flights. I just took it LIT-DEN-LAX, and it was awesome. Do they go East?

Thanks for all your input.

That Mem-MCO fare is great! I might consider flying BDL-MCO then MCO-MEM. In early Dec we can usually get RT for less than $150. $150+$137 would be under $300. Probably not bad. But it would take great discipline not to go visit Mickey:rotfl2:

I'll check this out. I know we can get BDL-DEN on Frontier, but I didn't look at Little Rock

For those who live in the area, if I fly into Nashville or Little Rock - how much do I need to worry about weather issues the first weekend of Dec. Last thing I'd want to do is have to drive 2-4 hours in a snowstorm. There are some direct SWA BDL-Nashville flights, and also SWA to Little Rock, but not direct.

In December, you won't need to worry about snow in Little Rock. *still smiling*

No white Christmases here. It may be a low of 40 degrees, unless it's unseasonably cold. December in AR is still like fall for those of you in the NE.

Nashville's slightly cooler, but I don't think snow is a threat there at that time either--not sure. Denver might be.

I loved flying Frontier. Get the Airbus 318/319. They have snacks and movies.

Edit:
December might have Thunderstorms or tornados at that time, but then again, Arkansas weather is really unpredictable. February, usually our coldest month, was just spent at 60 to 80 degrees for the majority of the month, even though we had snow for 2 days on Feb 2nd!

And another thing:
Delta seems to often do specials out of NYC to LIT. You might check that. Delta has a lot of traffic in LR, and usually has the lowest fairs for things I'm looking for.

I have lived in Dickson or Jackson (Both between Nashville and Memphis) since
1983 and the earliest snow I can remember that "stuck" is Christmastime
about 3 years ago.
