Ugggh. My DS7 polar white Nintendo DS lite was looking pretty bad. I decided to clean it a bit. I wiped it down with a damp cloth. I also used a toothbrush to clean some of the crevices that collected dirt. It's looking great, but he went to play it today and the left shoulder button doesn't work!!!! I'm trying to convince myself that it's just a coincidence :confused3

Of course, the warrenty has expired. It's $75 for them to fix this one (and wait 2 weeks), $85 to send a refurbished one (get it quicker). I feel terrible about this. If it was his fault, I'd make him wait or play without it working. But I feel it's my fault for cleaning it - what was I thinking???? - so, I'm leaning towards the $85 choice.

Anyone have something similar happen? Has anyone had to send their DS into nintendo?

I had to laugh because I thought you cleaned your Darling Son and he wasn't working!:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

My son has the Nerf like protector on his DS. It is really so it won't get damaged if it falls, but I guess it keeps it clean too.

Sorry, no suggestions. Once I washed my DH cell phone and destroyed it!

Oh, I can see that the DS abbreviation is going to raise some questions :rotfl:

Thanks for making me smile.

Just talked with DS again. He said it was working last night - AFTER I cleaned it. :thumbsup2 So, it wasn't me after all!!!! I feel better. Still going to be out some $$$, but I feel better about it not being my fault.

Hey, I thought that at first, too! :lmao:

My ds has the Nerf protector for his DS, too. But, he has been clawing away at the Nerf stuff, and actually broke the hinge on one side. Otoh, it has protected it - now, the only thing holding the actual hinge together is the plastic case on the Nerf protector. Not sure if it really keeps it clean, tho I suppose it is harder for dust to get inside any of the crevices. Plus, he always keeps a game in it, so stuff doesn't get in those openings. (He also has one Gameboy game.)

I edited the title to prevent more confusion over me washing my child and him not working anymore. Although, that would explain why I have to remind hiim to clean up so much - he gets too many showers. :rotfl:

Thanks for the heads up on the Nerf Armor. It looks interesting. Really my son is very good with his Nintendo. I'm not sure if the armor would have helped or not. The button that isn't working is on on the corner, they call them "shoulder" buttons. Anyway, did some on-line searching and apparently it's a very common thing to go bad.

I went ahead and arranged to send it into Nintendo for repair. The only catch I had was I got the prepaid shipping label and they only ship Fedex. If you can believe it, there isn't a Fedex pickup within 35 minutes from home. I thought Staples did it, but I was not so nicely informed that they don't do Fedex ground. Hopefully, my DH can mail it from work tomorrow.

Again, thanks for the suggestion about the Nerf Armor. I like that they come in cool colors, in addition to keeping it clean and better protected.

If it is the hinge that is broken, this happened to my son and alot of his friends. I called Nintendo and the wanted $75 to fix it. I said NO that this is some sort of defect that they have ( and they are aware of ) because if you google it you can find alot of people with the same problem. They fixed it for free. I told them that I was a loyal Nintendo buyer. We have a Wii, Gamecube, 2 DS and a gameboy.

Uggggh. I wish I had done that!!!! It's the left shoulder button that's broken, but that seems to be a very common problem. We have bought - 1 gamecube, 1 gameboy ap, 3 gameboy sp (2 plus tons of games were stolen on a disney trip), 2 nintendo ds lite, and a Wii. Plus the multitude of games!!!!

My only consolation in this whole mess is that it will come back with a new 1 year warrenty. That makes the $75 SLIGHTLY easier to swallow.

$75 with a new 1 yr warranty is pretty good!

We've been very happy with their customer service, had to send back our DS (game) once and then it still wasn't working right so they did the replacement program for us. That was all still under warranty and it still extends it for a year, which is fantastic.

I have heard that if you do the refurb replacement thing you can get a different color. I'm not sure if that's true, but it's cool if it is. :)

When DD's Gameboy Advance screen got dirty, I did what any mom would do (right? -- :rotfl:) -- I squirted the screen with window cleaner and cleaned it. I immediately noticed that the clean ran behind the screen and ruined it. I had no choice but to buy a new one. She had taken such good care of it, that I didn't have the heart to tell her I wouldn't replace it, even though she told me she understood and it wasn't necessary.

My DD13 got a Nintendo DS Lite for Christmas, the bundle one they sold on Black Friday, she got the pink metallic version. About 3 weeks ago she was playing on it in bed before sleep and put it on the floor. Well, the next morning when her alarm went off, she got up and stepped on it and the top screen had a crack on the inside of it and of course it wasn't working. I checked out the Nintendo for repair suggestions and I had it repaired but my cost was "only" $57.50 with the Fedex fee, the fee was $75 but there was an instant discount of $25, still much better then having to buy a new one! AND she paid out of her own money and learned a valuable lesson not to ever put it on the floor again. It just came back two days ago and just as new :goodvibes
