Has anyone changed planes from a domestic flight to a flight going to the US at YUL recently? I have a vague memory of a very long walk and some construction the last time I was there, about a year and a half ago.

Wondering if connecting at YUL is better or worse than connecting at YYZ?

Last time I did this was December 2017, it was a long walk :) I also remember some construction. And the fact we had to debark the first plane outside. It was snowing, and cold. And I had gate checked our bags so we had to grab them and then find our way through the airport. The outside part was the bit I didn't like. In December. :)

I have never gone through YYZ but I am tempted just because I don't think you end up outside lol.

I connected through YUL 4 months ago. It is along walk, but there was no construction going on. I've connected through YYZ also, shorter walk.
Overall I don't see an advantage to either one.

YUL is my home airport. Construction at the US terminal is done. I guess it would be a good walk from the domestic terminal to US one but at least you can walk and don’t need to take a shuttle like when I had a transfer at Pearson a few years ago from domestic to US terminal (made it with a few minutes late but my luggages didn’t). Compared to the other airports I’ve been (Miami, Orlando, Vancouver and LAX), YUL is on the smaller size imo.

For the getting out outside, that can happen anywhere. It depends on how big the plane is. If it’s too small to fit the gates, you disembark on the ground. Happened to me once in Vancouver (Vancouver-Victoria flight).

If you have a Nexus card it is accepted at YUL and you go thru customs here which I personally prefer.

I would always choose to connect to the USA through YUL over YYZ. It is a long walk but it is never as crowded as YYZ.
